Helical gears are commonly used in industry as
they have advantages of higher power density, quieter
operation etc., compared to spur gears. Conventional gear
design is based on various design criteria, including durability
and bending strength load rating. In recent times, fracture
failure modes are gaining importance in addition to
conventional failure modes. Stresses due to operating fatigue
loads and internal residual stresses can cause fatigue fracture
failure on the surface, sub-surface of gear flanks or at tooth
root of gears. During gear design, various parameters are
optimized, and one such parameter is the helix angle that is
optimized for power density and gear noise. However, effect of
possible defects (voids and inclusions) in the gear tooth is not
usually considered in these calculations. This paper is a study
on severity of defects in a gear blank relative to power density
increment. Three different gear geometries (spur and helical
gears with two different helix angles) each with similar defects
are considered. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to
analyze Tooth Interior Fracture (TIF), and study variation of
Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) with crack size and helix angle.
It is seen that power density increment of a common gear
blank through helix angle increment poses a higher risk of
crack severity, as the same gear blank is exposed to higher
operating loads.

THE EFFECTS OF BOLT PRELOAD ON VIBRATION AMPLITUDE OF GANTRY CNC ROUTERIAEME Publication
The joint properties significant affect on the dynamic performance and spindle
vibration of gantry CNC router structure. This paper presents the relationship
between the vibration amplitude of the spindle nose of a gantry CNC router and a bolt
pre-tightening force. The dynamic model from machine structures with bolt joints was
developed to consider the impact of a bolt pre-tightening force to spindle vibration of
CNC router structures and dynamic behavior. Based on the dynamic model, harmonic
analysis is conducted to specify the spindle nose’s displacement corresponding to the
different bolt pre-tightening force. The FE analysis results indicate that bolt pretightening
forces have great influence on the spindle nose vibration amplitude and
when the pre-tightening force of bolt joints was increased, the dynamic stiffness of the
spindle also increases while the vibration amplitude decreases. The accuracy and
effectiveness of the model have also been confirmed by experimental results. The
achieved result will enhance the rigidity, improve the vibration resistance of the
machine structure to improve the reliability as well as machining precision, and attain
the best surface quality

Dynamic Analysis of Rotating stepped Shaft with Transverse CrackIJERA Editor
This study describes dynamic analysis of stepped shaft with single crack of EN8 material. The objective is to compare results of healthy stepped shaft and single cracked stepped shaft for different crack depth ratios at variable rpm .The dynamic analysis is carried out by using finite element method. Obtained results from analysis are benchmarked from literature. It is observed that there is 84.80% increase in amplitude of acceleration of cracked shaft. Also modal analysis of shaft has been carried out to know effect on natural frequencies of healthy shaft and cracked shaft. The effects of crack depth, crack length & RPM on amplitude of acceleration are obtained.

This study investigate the characteristics of a gear system including contact stresses, bending
stresses, and the transmission errors of gears in mesh. Gearing is one of most critical component in
mechanical power transmission systems. The bending stresses in the tooth root were examined using 3D
model.
Current methods of calculating gear contact stresses use Hertz’s equations and Lewis Equation
which were originally derived for contact between two cylinders. To enable the investigation of contact
problems with FEM, the stiffness relationship between the two contact areas is usually established
through a spring placed between the two contacting areas. This can be achieve by inserting a contact
element in between the two areas where contact occurs. The results of the three dimensional FEM analysis
from ANSYS are presented. These stresses were compared with theoretical values. Both results agree very
well. This indicates that the FEM model is accurate.
This report also considers the variations of the whole body stiffness arising from gear body
rotation due to bending deflection, shearing displacement and contact deformation. Many different
positions within the meshing cycle were investigated. Investigation of contact and bending stress
characteristics of spur gears continues to be immense attention to both engineers and researchers in spite
of many studies in the past.
This is because of the advances in the engineering technology that demands for gears with ever
increasing load capacities and speeds with high reliability, the designers need to be able to accurately
predict the stresses experienced the stresses by the loaded gears.

A three dimensional finite element analysis of tilted or parallel implant.ppt...enochrao
In the Nobel biocare's model , the so-called All-on-Four protocol, four dental implants are placed in the interforaminal region of the edentulous mandible to support full-arch fixed prostheses.In Nobel biocare’s design, the posterior implants are tilted distally to a maximum of 45 degrees. The soul purpose of this finite element study was to determine and evaluate the stress concentration in peri-implant bone during two different loading conditions and the values obtained , will be used to compare with another design in which the four implants are placed parallel to each other and perpendicular to the occlusal plane. Three-dimensional finite element models consisted of mandibular bone, four dental implants inserted in two different configurations—with the distal implants tilted (model A) or four parallel implants (model S)—and hybrid superstructures. Two loading conditions (178 N/central incisors or 300 N/left first molar) were considered, and von Mises stress values were determined. During anterior loading, higher stress concentrations were detected in the peri-implant bone of all four implants in model A. During posterior loading, lower stress concentrations were observed around the anterior implants of model A; however, the tilted posterior implants were subjected to higher stresses in every condition. Application of either of these designs was successful in reducing peri-implant stress in one loading condition. However, neither design demonstrated better performance in both loading conditions; therefore, within the limitations of this study, neither design demonstrated clearly superior performance.

Natural Vibration Analysis of Femur Bone Using HyperworksIJERA Editor
The main objective of the femur bone analysis is to know the natural frequencies and identify the fracture location of the bone through simulation based on the HYPERWORKS. The femur bone analysis is subjected to free-free and fixed-fixed boundary conditions. The mode shape shows that the natural frequency of free-free boundary condition varies from 0 Hz to 57 Hz and for fixed-fixed boundary condition 11 Hz to 171 Hz. On the bases of these two boundary conditions mode shape is determined and fracture location can be easily notified.
Finite Element Based Member Stiffness Evaluation of Axisymmetric Bolted Jointijiert bestjournal
For a reliable design of bolted joints,it is necessary to evaluat e the actual fraction of the external load transmitted through the bolt. The stiffness of the bolt and the me mber of the joint decide the fractions of external load shared by the bolt and the member. Bolt stiffness can be eval uated simply by assuming the load flow to be uniform across the thickness and the deformation is homogeneous. Then,bolt may be modeled as a tension member and the stiffness can be easily evaluated. But,the evalua tion of the member stiffness is difficult because of the heterogeneous deformation. In the present work,joint materials are assumed to be isotropic and homogeneous,and linear elastic axisymmetric finite element ana lysis was performed to evaluate the member stiffness. Uniform displacement and uniform pressure assumptions are employed in idealizing the boundary conditions. Wide ranges of bolt sizes,joint thicknesses,and material properties are considered in the analysis to evaluate characteristic behavior of member stiffness. Empiric al formulas for the member stiffness evaluation are proposed using dimensionless parameters. The results obtained are com pared with the results available in the literature.

Finite Element Analysis of Osteosynthesis Miniplate for the Reconstruction of...UniversitasGadjahMada
In the last two decades, the use of osteosynthesis miniplate has been growing to aid the healing process and reconstruction of fractured mandibular bone. In principle, the plate is used to provide stable fixation of the fractured bone tissue during the healing process and reconstruction. Based on earlier studies, it is noted that arrangements and geometry of the osteosynthesis miniplate played a critical role in determining the stability of the fractured mandibular bone, as well as the miniplate. In this research, a simulation with finite element method (FEM) was carried out to investigate the influence of the number of holes in an osteosynthesis miniplate on the stability of fractured mandibular bone and the corresponding miniplate after the implantation. For this purpose, a set of osteosynthesis miniplate with three different configurations was taken for simulation using a three-dimensional (3D) model of mandibular bone generated from the patient through computed tomography (CT). The result of the simulation showed that all the miniplates with three configurations tested were stable enough to prevent movement of fractured mandibular bone. Moreover, fixation with a pair of miniplates having four screw holes demonstrated the desired result; as indicated by the lowest value of displacement, pressure on the bone surface and pressure on the miniplate.
This report presents the structural analysis of knuckle joint using finite element analysis. The analysis considered the fracture failure of the structure from a loading of 70 kN axial load. It was found that the structure has a factor of safety of 2 for this loading and failure mode. The structure is therefore satisfactory for the desire design condition. The model is done with solid work and imported into Ansys. The FEM analysis had done with different mesh type and compared the result obtained. Further study in this direction can made by using various diameter of the pin, choosing the different material and the capacity to withstand load.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. 2. EDENTULOUS STATE
Finite element analysis is a numerical method based on the principle of dividing
a structure into finite number of small elements that are interconnected with
each other at the corner points or nodes having 3 degrees of freedom which
translates in X, Y and Z directions.
Each element is assigned unique elastic properties (Poisson’s ratio and
Modulus of Elasticity) to represent the materials modeled and for each element
its mechanical behavior can be written as a function of displacement of the
nodes.
The nodes are submitted to certain loading conditions resulting in a behavior of
the model similar to the structures it represents. When a computer analysis is
performed a system of simultaneous equations can be solved to relate all forces
and displacements at the nodes.
From this stresses and stress contours can be established in each element and
thus for the whole body.

11. Preparation of Finite Element Mesh
A 3-D finite element model was generated using Cosmos Pre and
Post Processor GeoStar.
The structure except for periodontal ligament was idealized using 8noded 3-D solid brick elements (Hexahedral) having 3 degrees of
freedom per node (i.e. Mesial, Axial and Facial directions).
The periodontal ligament space was meshed by using 1-D spring
elements and the orientation of these spring element was duplicated
fro the orientation of principal fibers as seen in histological sections
and were uniformly spaced throughout the tooth.

15. VALIDATION OF MODEL
The mathematical model was verified by computation of the axial
displacement corresponding to 10 N vertical force to the canine.
A displacement of 0.02-0.03 mm was computed, were obtained by
assigning the physical constants to the elements in the models.
Displacements were used to judge the appropriate mesh size as it
provides a convenient and useful measure in most linear problem.

16. APPLICATION OF BOUNDARY CONDITIONS
Symmetric boundary conditions were imposed at the mid symphyseal
region since only half of the mandible was modeled. On the distal side all
the three translation were fixed to simulate the exact physiologic situation.

17. APPLICATION OF FORCES
•
Two different types of forces were applied:
– Static distributed load of 70 N consistent with incisal bite force in denture
wearers applied to the incisal third of the abutment.
– As during bilateral biting, a distributed load of 120N, directed anteriorly and
downward at an angle of 15 degrees to the vertical was applied in first molar
region.

18. ANALYSIS OF STRESS PATTERN
The stress distribution in the structure is presented in the form of contour
plots of different cases of model studied. In order to get clear picture of
the stress status the contour plots of Von Mises Stress have been made
separately for the areas of special interest i.e. in the attachment design,
tooth, cortical bone around the tooth and the bone at the back separately
by using Iterative Solver of Cosmos M / Ver. 2.5 of Finite Element
Software.

30. RESULTS
• The stress transmitted to the abutment tooth using two different
attachment designs varied from 2-47.2 Mpa for two different
masticatory loads applied. The maximum of 47.2 Mpa was transmitted
in case of Ball-Socket Design and that of 43.50 in Bar-Clip Design.
• The stress transmitted to the cortical bone using two different
attachment designs varied from 2-22 Mpa for two different masticatory
loads applied. In top cortical layer it was 22 Mpa maximum, while in
apical cortical layer it was 43 Mpa and in posterior cortical layer it was
11.5 Mpa
• For the top cortical layer, maximum stress of 23 Mpa was transmitted
in case of Ball-Socket Design, while 17 Mpa was transmitted in case of
Bar-Clip Design.

31. RESULTS
• For the apical cortical layer, Bar-Clip design transmitted a little high
value of 14.3 Mpa than 12.50 as transmitted by Ball-Socket design.
• There was no difference in the stress transmitted to the posterior
cortical layer in the first molar region for the two attachment designs
under masticatory loads.
• Among the two masticatory forces, 70 N incisal force transmitted the
maximum stresses to the abutment tooth and cortical bone. At this
load Ball and Socket Design showed maximum stress value of 47.2
Mpa in abutment tooth and 23 Mpa in cortical bone, while the Bar-Clip
design, the value was 26.4 Mpa and 17 Mpa respectively.
• The stress transmitted to the two attachment designs varied from 6 to
121.07 Mpa. The maximum stress 121.07 Mpa was found in BallSocket, while Bar-Clip showed a value of 90 Mpa.
