Anders Fors of Volvo Bus presented on a 3D search and compare project using Exalead OnePart. The project aims to reduce part numbers in production by enabling reuse of existing parts and avoiding duplicate designs. This will save costs across product development, manufacturing, and the supply chain. The presentation demonstrated how OnePart allows users to search a 3D CAD part library and find similar existing parts for verification and potential reuse. An initial pilot found 9 parts that could be reused, saving an estimated 1.35 million SEK. Wider adoption may require changes to processes and mindsets around part design and selection.
