Final Video Evaluation
My final video edit off my music video Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen didn’t turn out as
I first imagined. This was because half way through the making off our video one off our
group members left college and therefore the idea off our music video had to change.
However the finished outcome of my music video turned out better than I expected even
though we only had a short amount of time to come up with a new idea.
Our original idea for the Call me maybe music video was to take part in a café located in
Manchester town centre, however when one of my group members left Me, Matt and Olivia
decided to it would be much more convenient for us three to shoot the music video closer
to home. Therefore instead of shooting our verses in a café in town we shot them at Olivia’s
house which saved us a lot of time. By shooting the verses at Olivia’s house along with
saving us a lot of time it also allowed us to spend more time analysing the footage and
editing the footage.
Another problem I came across while shooting the music video was the chorus. The chorus
was very time consuming and was very hard to film because it required us to find random
people around Manchester and ask them to mime a line from the chorus. Many people who
we asked were either busy or simply didn’t want to take part in our music video. After two
days of walking around Manchester town and asking people to star in our music video, as a
group we decided to film the rest of the chorus around college due to the fact we knew
people at college wouldn’t mind about staring in our video.
The chorus consisted of medium shots and medium shots alone due to the fact we wanted
our video to follow the same patter as the Nickleback video Rockstar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmeUuoxyt_E.
Another music video that our video mirrors is the original Call me maybe due to the fact
both music videos follow the same story line which includes girls falling in love with their
gardener and doing anything to gain his attention. Here’s the link to the original Call Me
Maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic.
The chorus was also the first part of the song we began to film and edit due to the fact we
knew that the chorus would require more of our attention then the verses. The chorus also
required more shots than the verses which then another problem arose. While editing the
chorus footage I began to realise that we didn’t have enough footage from around college
and Manchester town. This then required me and my group to go out and film our family
members to film the remaining parts of the chorus. Me Olivia and Matt also had to
participate in miming some parts of the chorus which at the time seem like a bad idea due
to the fact me and Olivia were already being filmed for the verses. However after watching
Chloe Whittle
the footage back the clips of us miming the chorus seem to fit and don’t draw too much
attention.
While editing the chorus I had to make sure the clips were in time with the song or else the
video wouldn’t flow as well as it should. When some people were miming their mouths
weren’t in time with song therefore I had to go out and film more people singing the same
line and hoping they would be more in sync. This wasn’t a massive concern due to the fact it
didn’t happen very often.
Another problem we came across while filming both the chorus and the verses was the
lighting. Some of the clips were very dark and required me to increase the brightness to
make them clearer while other clips were too bright and required me to reduce the
brightness. The camera we filmed with also allowed us to make the shots brighter which we
figured out during one of our filming sessions.
The software I used to edit my footage was Adobe Premier Pro which I found very easy to
use and adapt too. When importing my footage I found out that I had to render my video
after every few clips due to the fact the sound and clips wouldn’t work otherwise. Some of
the clips we had especially the ones for the verses needed to be rescaled which Premier Pro
allowed us to do. This was very easy to learn and consisted of selecting the clip clicking on
effect controls and increasing the scale of the clip. However a problem with increasing the
scale of the clip was that the quality off the clips reduced. On the bright side this wasn’t a
big problem due to the fact you couldn’t tell.
Overall I am very pleased with my final video edit due to the fact my team worked very well
together which allowed us to film our footage while enjoying ourselves. I also found the
editing fairly easy which allowed me push on with my editing without waiting on other
people to help me.
