Question 7
1. Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full project?
I think overall our main task is a lot better than our preliminary task as that
was the first project we have ever made using Premier Pro so we did have some
difficulties making it, but also filming it wasn’t easy as we decided to film it mainly at
night, so a lot of it was in the dark we used a Canon 600D which isn’t a bad camera
but because we decided to film in the dark it meant that the quality wasn’t great, for a
bit of it we couldn’t see anyone as it was so dark so we had to improvise and use
torches to light up our character. When it came to the planning of our main task we
made sure that we weren’t filming in the dark to limit any possible problems when it
came to filming.
As we were filming in a very public place we had to somehow make sure that
people didn’t get in the way or were too noisy so we made it quite obvious that we
were filming in the hopes that people realised and stayed out of the way, we didn’t
have too much to worry about though. When we were filming them talking it was a
little harder as it was quite windy so we didn’t really want to pick it up too much on
the microphone however we did use a detachable microphone meaning it was aimed
more towards the actors making it easier to hear them. When we were filming our
preliminary task we didn’t have the problems of the public or the sound as we were
filming at my house and it wasn’t windy at the time but also there was no dialogue
when we were filming outside.
When we were filming our preliminary task we had to think about the mise en
scene a lot more as we were at my house and it was meant to look like a Halloween
sleepover movie night, we made sure we had some sort of Halloween decorations
around to make it obvious but also we had coke and popcorn and a big stack of
horror movies, we also needed to make the ‘barn’ look scary and haunted, it already
looked like that so it was quite easy to do as there are spider webs everywhere its
dirty and there is a creepy bell that rings when you open the door. However when we
were filming our main task the mise en scene wasn’t really in our control as we were
filming in a public place, we just had to make sure that people didn’t get in our way
but also we had to choose a location that younger people would go to/hang out to
make it more relatable.
Editing was the hardest part of the whole preliminary task as it way the first
time any of us were using Premier Pro but also because we had so much footage
from filming that it was quite hard to get it all in the correct order. One of the parts
when editing was very difficult as we didn’t have enough footage to make it work/look
okay so we had to use an effect but it still didn’t look that good but that was the only
part that we couldn’t get right, but we did also have quite a lot of difficulty adding
2. sound into our video, it just wouldn’t work but in the end it just happened to be there
after we had uploaded it to YouTube. As this was the second time using Premier Pro
to edit we found it a lot easier to do and it was very easy adding all of the footage the
only bit we had some problems with was the sound disappearing on some of the
clips, in the end we sorted this out and it wasn’t a big problem, we found it very easy
adding in the titles and adding all the colours so overall this time editing was a lot
easier.
If we were going to this again I think we would film in a less open area to
minimise the sound of the wind and maybe choose a different time of day to film as
we were filming from 1pm onwards the location was quite busy, so maybe we could
film quite early in the morning as there would be a lot less people around. And
maybe another thing we could do differently was editing we could make sure the
sound is there for all of the clips straight after we put them in meaning if any wasn’t
there we could just replace it instead of having to take lots out and having to re-cut
them. But overall I think since our preliminary task we have learnt a lot in filming a
short film and editing a short film, it has got easier now we know a bit more about
hoe Premier Pro works but all in all I think we have all improved as a group.
