This document examines the effects of regional, national, and EU innovation policy support in the UK and Spain using data from 2004-2012. It finds:
1) Regional support is most influential for process and organizational innovation in the UK, while national support increases the likelihood of product/service innovation.
2) In Spain, regional, national, and EU support all increase innovative sales.
3) Only regional support in the UK and regional/national support in Spain increase the novelty of innovations in bringing new products and services to market.
The centralization of UK innovation policy may strengthen novel innovation but also increase competitiveness gaps between firms. EU support had little impact on innovation in either country.
The document describes the services of Agency of Industrial Marketing, a market research firm founded in 1997. It provides market research services for B2B markets across Ukraine, CIS countries, Eastern Europe, and globally. The agency conducts a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research including competitor analysis, brand awareness studies, customer satisfaction surveys, and more. This document discusses the model of perfect competition in economics. It begins by outlining the key assumptions of perfect competition, including many small firms, homogeneous products, perfect information, and barriers to entry or exit. It then provides examples of markets that approximate perfect competition. The document explores the concepts of short-run and long-run equilibrium for a competitive firm and industry under perfect competition. It discusses how perfect competition leads to productive and allocative efficiency. Finally, it notes some limitations of the perfect competition model and acknowledges that real world markets involve imperfect competition.
This document discusses measuring innovation activities and developing indicators. It notes that innovation policy should be evidence-based and data is needed to understand innovation's relationship to economic growth. It describes international manuals for measuring innovation and R&D. Key challenges for Ukraine include rigid approaches, difficulties changing indicators, and political influences. The document calls for adopting international standards while preserving some national indicators, and developing new indicators to better capture Ukraine's innovation processes.

Competitive Strategy and Business PerformanceAlmut
This document outlines the structure and content for a seminar paper on competitive strategy and business performance in the German clothing industry. It will include a PEST analysis of political, economic, social and technological factors. An impact analysis will be conducted using Porter's Five Forces model. Finally, strategic options will be evaluated based on Ansoff's framework. The paper is being written for an MBA program between a German and British university.
The document discusses different sectors of industry: primary involves extracting raw materials, secondary involves processing and manufacturing products, and tertiary involves providing services. It then asks why jeans can't be sourced and manufactured in the UK. It lists some ways that MEDCs could trade with LEDCs more fairly, such as removing import taxes and subsidies. However, LEDCs face challenges inhibiting their economic development, such as lack of infrastructure, capital, skilled workers, and difficulties accessing MEDC markets. Ethical consumerism involves intentionally purchasing products that don't exploit humans or harm the environment. Fair trade guarantees producers a price to cover costs plus a 10% social premium for community programs.

This document discusses expanding innovation surveys to include additional sectors beyond manufacturing and services.
It provides rationales for increasing the sectoral coverage of surveys to mining, utilities, and agriculture due to the transformative effects of new technologies across all sectors. These sectors represent significant shares of GDP and employment in some countries.
The document also notes the need to consider sector-specific definitions, activities, and knowledge patterns in survey methodology. Case studies on mining, utilities, and agriculture highlight technological trends driving innovation in those industries. Surveys in Russia have found mining and utilities display innovation intensities similar to low-tech sectors.
The document discusses the evolution of industrial districts due to factors like market globalization, technology evolution, and network technologies. It states that market globalization imposes a planned approach to the market on companies and addresses economies of scale issues in research, engineering, marketing and financing. Technology evolution leads to new paradigms like e-commerce and new rules around quality, safety and the environment, impacting production cycles. This changing competitive context presents challenges for districts around human resources, training, internationalization, technological innovation and network technologies. The use of network technologies and e-commerce can change winners and losers among districts and alter local and global supplier networks.

Re-distribution and the future of UK Manufacturing - Mark Claydon-Smith, EPSRCRECODE Network
1) The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the main UK government agency for funding research in engineering and the physical sciences.
2) One of EPSRC's research themes is manufacturing, where they plan to invest £439 million over 4 years to support areas like production, simulation, emerging technologies, and re-distributed manufacturing.
3) Re-distributed manufacturing involves decentralizing production so goods are manufactured closer to customers, as opposed to traditional large centralized factories. EPSRC funded 6 networks on this topic to explore the research opportunities and implications of this changing model of manufacturing.
In order to help the Finnish manufacturing industry prepare for the future, VTT executed scenario work under its For Industry spearhead programme. I Minds2009 Overcoming New Challenges By Breaking Old Boundaries Creative Pa...imec.archive
The document discusses challenges facing ICT innovation policies in Europe and proposes a more holistic approach. It argues that current policies focus too much on technological research and not enough on design, user needs, and business models. It also claims policies do not support commercialization of research results or collaboration between academia and business. The document proposes that future policies promote: 1) art, creativity, and design in ICT research to create new products and services, 2) user-centered design and innovation, and 3) closer collaboration across sectors to support innovation from research through commercialization. Adopting this holistic approach could help overcome barriers and better promote ICT innovation in Europe.

6. Innovation is vital in the European design-based consumer goods industries, because:
Markets are fiercely competitive and market barriers are low
Cost leadership is virtually impossible, the key is differentiation
Demand changes are rapid, unpredictable and product life cycles are short
Consumers constantly expect something new, unique and exciting
Buying decisions are driven by desires and emotions, not by basic needs
End markets (in Europe) are mostly mature, overall market growth is slow
Human creativity, novel materials and new technologies offer an endless potential for
new products & product-services
Despite small average R&D spending & few patents, the design-based
consumer goods industry is highly innovative, invests heavily in innovation and
takes a lot of risk.
