This document is a proposal form for a final major project creating a music video. The student proposes filming a music video for the song "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis, showing the band performing for a crowd. The target audience would be late teenagers and young adults who enjoy indie/rock music and attending concerts. Multiple cameras would be used to capture wide shots of the crowd and band from different angles. Lighting, sound equipment, costumes and editing techniques like quick cuts and a vintage filter would be employed to realize the project.

For my Final Major Project I will be filming a Music Video. The
reason for this is because I want to go into the field of Music
Video Production. I find, when watching music videos, that they
can have a big impact on people, whether it be because of
the music or of the video itself. Last year we did a music video
as part of the course and I found it really interesting and fun.
Creating another music video will be good for my portfolio
when showing Universities and job opportunities. I enjoy
watching music videos so I find that I have an understanding of
what certain music videos should include.
In my music video I wanted it to be performance based. My
last music video had an element of performance; however, it
was filmed in a recording studio. My last music video was
based on ‘behind the scenes’. In this music video I wanted to
film the band performing in front of a crowd. I wanted the
video to be fun and entertaining. I have chosen the song
‘Chelsea Dagger’ by The Fratellis. A well-known, upbeat song.
This helps add the element of fun, because people will want to
be in the crowd dancing to the song. The angles I want to use
are more wide shots so that you can see the crowd and the
band. Showing the full gig and having most still shots will give
the audience a good view of the video. Having some hand
held footage will add to the concert atmosphere. I would also
want to film the crowd using their phones to film the gig
themselves. Capturing any point of view of the gig will be useful
so that I have a variety of footage to edit.
For this genre of music the demographic would be late
teenagers and young male and females. People in this
demographic can relate to the concert atmosphere and will
appreciate the style of indie/rock. In the audience in the music
video I would want to use late teen’s male and female, this will
also make the viewer’s relate to the video because there are
people in the same demographic.
With the demographic that this music video will have, the
audience would want to see things they can relate to in a gig
situation. Having the crowd singing along and dancing will be
what’s expected from a video like this. With it being a fun song,
adding humour to the video will make it entertaining. This
demographic will want to watch the video because it will have
humour, they can relate to it and you see the band perform.
Young adults go to festivals and gigs to see their favourite
bands perform, which is why I find that they will enjoy this music
video.
In my music video it is filmed as though it is a real live gig which
they could relate to. I would also use a similar demographic for
the crowd, this is because this audience would have
experience of going to gigs and festivals and having fun. The
video is meant to be entertaining, which, from being part of
that demographic, I find it will be. Seeing the band mess

audience)
around in front of the camera will be funny for this
demographic see.
What production
techniques will you
use to realise your
project?
With this music video, a lot of lighting will be involved and
sound equipment. With it being a big project I will use more
than one camera, three cameras will help with making sure I
get all the angles I need. Before the crowd is there I will get
some close up of the band performing so that I can have a
range of close ups and wide angled shots. Before filming,
getting photos of the location will help picture how the video is
going to work and where things should go. After filming I would
edit in premier pro, I will mix the angles and do quick cuts to
different angles so that it goes with the beat of the song.
Brightening the footage will bring out the lights; however,
adding a tint of vintage over the top of the footage will match
the style of the music video. The costumes that the band will be
wearing will be in vintage style and the lead singer will be
wearing a top hat. Therefore, the vintage wash over the
footage may look better. Adding credits at the end will add
the element of professional, also, let’s me recognise the band’s
name that’s in the music video.
