Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Question 1
1. In what ways does your
media product use, develop
or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. Conventions of pop music videos
• I made an effort to make my music video before I watch the original
music video for Coldplay- Head Full Of Dreams. I will take 9
screenshots from both my music video and Coldplay’s to see the
difference.
3. Coldplay compared to my music video
Similarities Differences
- Love iconography.
- Establishing shots to introduce stars.
- Lip syncing.
- Performance.
- Use of colours and pop art.
- My music video has a clearer
narrative.
- Different interpretation of ‘dreams’.
Coldplay follows along the idea of
achieving life’s dreams. My music
video is based on the idea of a day
dream.
4. Conventions of pop music videos
• I got a lot of inspiration from Katy Perry- California Gurls. I like this
video as it is very fun and unique, just like the song ‘Head Full Of
Dreams’ is. I got ideas such as the use of clouds from this video. I liked
this video as it keeps the audience entertained and interested
through out.
5. Katy Perry compared to my music video
Similarities Differences
- Entering a new world.
- Performance.
- Lip syncing.
- Doesn’t share love iconography.
6. Conventions of my music video
• Before I started my production for my music video, I researched into
pop music videos and conventions. During this research I found key
features of pop music; popular, upbeat, catchy, vocal chorus,
mainstream style to appeal to a general audience. This helped me
with my song choice and music video. Here is 9 screenshots of my
music video.

What it shows
1 This is an establishing shot which introduces my star. It is very popular
to use star image in pop videos.
2 This scene is used as a transaction from the real world to the dream
world. This fantasy idea is popular in pop videos, such as Kary Perry-
California Gurls. It is also done to roughly follow the lyrics of the song
(amplify).
3 This new world scene is used to introduce my setting/location. I
created this scene on Photoshop and then imported it to After Effects
where I edited each individual layer.
4 This screenshot presents my artist performing to the camera. The use
of the green screen and CGI is also conceptual. Performance fits the
mood of this song, proved in the initial ideas suggested to me from my
class mates when they heard the song.
8. 5 This shot represents the love iconography which is a popular
convention of a music video. This is evident in music videos
such as, Justin Bieber- Baby, Ed Sheeran- Shape of You,
Chainsmokers- Closer
6 This shot shows that my music video is performance. However
it also is also presents the visual effects I have used. Here I used
green screening to edit in 3 different people. I also used a
kaleidoscope effect for my background.
7 This shot also shows love iconography, which tells the narrative
through the video. The colour use, love iconography and lip
syncing to a vocal chorus suggest this is a pop music video.
8 This shot also shows love iconography, which tells the narrative
through the video.
9 This shot also shows love iconography, which tells the narrative
through the video.

Music video demonstrating
genre characteristics
A characteristic of pop music is to be up beat to encourage an
audience to dance to it. In my video, my artist is seen to be dancing
which reflects pop music genre.
Relationship with music and
visuals
At the start of the song (30 sec in) there is a high pitched electronic
sound, I used this to pinpoint when I was going to get my
character to fall into the dream.
Relationship with lyrics and
visuals
I used the lyric to determine the narrative of my music video.
I also used the lyrics on the screen within my music video.
Artist motifs and appearing in
music videos
I use star image to sell my product. My music video is performance
based and my artist is shown in my music video, digipack and
poster.
Reference to notion of looking My male character and the audience are encouraged to look at my
female character, however, Mulveys male gaze theory cannot be
applied as it is not superfluous to the narrative.
Inter-textual reference This not evident in my music video.
