This document provides guidance for a student's presentation and music video project. It includes 12 sections for the student to address in their presentation and video, such as choosing a song, describing the concept and narrative structure, targeting an audience, and planning visual elements like camera work, lighting, editing, and special effects. The student must answer these sections in detail to cover all areas of creating a music video, and link the visual style to the chosen song's lyrics and music style.

1. The Final Idea!
This will be presented to the class on 7th Oct and should be done using a whizzy
technology that can be posted on your blog. Your presentation should cover the
areas below in detail and it would be a good idea to include audience feedback –
you need to answer a question on this in the evaluation.
1. What is the song you will be using?

2. Plan the Concept of your music video.
This is a brief introduction to the idea you have for the music video.
3. Audience: What is your target audience and how do you intend on
appealing to this audience.
Include at least three specific features you will use. (eg actors, pace of
editing, message, symbolic images, genre, use of particular camera work,
colour, storyline etc).
Make sure you describe the feature and explain how you think this will
appeal to the audience.
4. Medium: Describe the genre of music video you are going to make.
· You can choose from the following types that were discussed in class.
– Performance, Narrative, Concept (Thematic Symbolic).
· Explain which codes and conventions you will be using (general
music video codes and conventions as well as ones that are specific to
the genre you have chosen). You must include at least three.
5. What tone will your music video be? (e.g funny, moody, gritty, black,
surreal, parody, retro, amusing, romantic, sad, serious, challenging etc).
Explain how your video will create this tone.
6. Purpose: What is the underlying message/idea/theme that you are
exploring in the music video?
7. Plan the narrative structure of your music video.
Consider Beginning, Middle, Ending and repeated elements. (i.e. what will it
look like). You could do this by describing what will happen for each line or
verse of the song.
8. Describe the key characters in your video. This includes any performers

2. (i.e band members) or actors.
Consider such things as costuming, performance, props, hair and makeup.
You can include drawings or pictures to explain the style you want.
9. How does your music video concept link to the lyrics of your chosen
song (eg in what ways does it illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics)?
Please include a copy of the lyrics.
Visual Style of Music Video.
10. Plan the visual style of your music video. Visual style includes such
things as:
· Camera work – shot types, framing, angles, movement, handheld,
focus, depth of field etc
· Lighting – high key lighting, low key lighting, colour, special lighting
effects, shadows
· Mise-en-scene – placement of objects within the frame, setting, etc
· Editing – speed of editing, use of montage, transitions, repetition,
graphic matching etc
· Use of Special Effects (e.g Ken burns effect, black and white, colour
manipulation, stills, models, cartoons etc).
Choose at least three key features that you plan to use in your video and
describe these in-depth below.
You can use drawings and detailed descriptions of key sequences to
explain how you will do this.
11.Is there a link between the visual style of your video and the music style
of the song (how it might illustrate, amplify or contradict the music)? If
so please explain what this link is.
12.Is there any thing else that you think I need to know about your music
video?
