• Feed Additive is an ingredient or
combination of ingredients added to the basic
feed mix or parts there of to fulfill the specific
need.
• Usually used in micro quantities and
requires careful handling and mixing.
• It is used to improve rate of gain, feed
efficiency ,preventing and controlling
diseases.
OBJECTIVES:
• Feed additives must be used according to
label.
•Protect your market and livelihood.
3. Types of Feed Additives:
• There are 4 types of feed additives such as:
• Technological additives (e.g-preservatives)
• Sensory additives (e.g-flavourings and
colourings)
• Nutritional additives (e.g-vitamins and minerals)
• Zoo technical additives (e.g-enzymes and
microorganisms)
4. Examples of Feed additives:
1.Antibiotics
- Compound produced by microorganisms that
inhibits the growth of microorganisms.
2. Arsenicals
- Controls parasites.
3.Nitrogurans
- Antimicrobial compound i.e produced more
by a microorganism.
4. Sulfas
- Antimicrobials-Residue problems usage has
been decreased.
