1. This is the shot I will be using for my
film poster. The composition is strong;
it clearly identifies who the
protagonist is. Both models look
comfortable and are looking directly
at the camera. I used a white hard light
and a soft light to achieve split lighting
on Ellie as well as the use of hard
lights created a catch light within her
eyes. For this shot I increased the size
of the aperture from F/7 to F/5 to
allow more light pass through the lens.
This is a close up shot taken at 48mm
and has been inspired by The Fault In
Our Stars film poster and suggests the
models share a close relationship. I
wanted Ellie to wear a scarf to cover
her hair to portray that she is ill.
I like the aim of this shot of having the
characters look towards each other,
however I believe it doesn’t invite the
audience into film as they are looking
directly into the lens. Additionally the
characters look squashed, and the
positioning of the camera will make it
harder to edit the shot later during
Photoshop due to the positioning of the
green screen, to improve this I could
crop the image down just above the
start of their heads to turn it into a
close up shot however, there would be
no room for the text due to the different
colours of clothing making it harder to
see the text as well as the positioning of
the models. This shot was taken with
the ISO of 100 as I didn’t want to reduce
the quality of the shot.
2. The aim for this photo was for the models to
hold each other’s hand while looking up into
the camera, as you can see the shot looks
very awkward, unnatural and
uncomfortable to look at. Ellie is looking up
towards the ceiling while Jacob is looking
into the lens. The camera itself wasn’t
positioned properly due it being difficult to
photograph from above. Additionally this
makes it harder later on to edit the shot due
to the positioning of the green screen. I will
not be using this for the film poster,
however it is well lit due to the use of
natural an artificial lighting as well as having
a large aperture of F/. 5 and slower shutter
speed of 1./37. I chose to use white lights as
yellow effects the colour of the skin tone.
Furthermore white lights are great way to
achieve catch light in the models eyes.
Again this shot is well lit, however as
natural light is unpredictable I was
forced to use flash, which caused the
glare on Jacob’s glasses. I did not want
to increase the ISO any further or the
shutter speed as it causes camera shake
as I held the camera. I could not use a
tripod to avoid camera shake as I was
taking this from above even when I
adjust the positioning of the tripod. For
these shots I used a Nikon 1500 digital
camera with a Nikon regular 18 -55mm
lens so I was able to adjust the lens if I
wanted to create either a medium shot
or a close up shot without cutting of the
models head. I will not be using this
shot due to the positioning of the
models, as I wanted Ellie closer to the
camera to establish the protagonist as
well as the glare in Jacob’s glasses.
