FILM DISTRIBUTION
COMPANIES
NEW LINE CINEMA
New Line Cinema is the company that distributed the
musical ‘Hairspray’. The parent organisations are Warner
Bros. and Time Warner. They would be suitable to support
our film because they are not an overly huge distribution
company but they are not so small that they need other
companies to help with cost and distribution.
NEW LINE CINEMA
They have distributed ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The
Hobbit’ Trilogies which had huge commercial success.
They have also done other film genres, for example, they
distributed films like ‘Annabelle’ and ‘The Conjuring’ which
are also well known horror films, and films like ‘Dumb and
Dumber’ and ‘Elf’ which are also well known films for their
genres. As they distribute a well-rounded selection of
genres it would make them good for distributing our
musical.
NEW LINE CINEMA
New Line Cinema usually spends quite a big budget on films.
The two horror films:
- ‘Annabelle’ 6.5 million USD
- ‘The Conjuring’ 20 million USD
The two of the trilogy films were
- ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ 180 million USD
- ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ 93 million
USD
The two comedies
- ‘Dumb and Dumber’ 16 million USD
- ‘Elf’ 33 million USD
‘Hairspray’ 75 million USD
NEW LINE CINEMA
They support blockbuster films that will earn a lot of money
and will or could have a fanbase that will want to go and
see the film. They also support films that will ensure that
there could be another in the series if it is a big hit with the
audience.
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
Paramount Pictures have distributed some classic chick-
flick teen films which is along the lines of the same genre
that we want to create. They would also be good to
support the film we create because they make so many
films that are a similar genre to our film.
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
They have distributed films like ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Clueless’
which are two classic cult films that are notoriously known
for the sass and girly vibes. They have also created
animated films like ‘Shrek’ and ‘The Bee Movie’ which are
two films that, though are aimed at children, they actually
for all ages; they also have created the ‘Paranormal
Activity’ films which also have a large horror fan base.
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
The chick-flick had a budget of:
- ‘Mean Girls’ 17 million USD
- ‘Clueless’ 20 million USD
The animated films had a budget of:
- ‘Shrek’ 60 million USD
- ‘Bee Movie’ 150 million USD
‘Paranormal Activity’ had a budget of 11,000 USD
‘Grease’ had a budget of 6 million USD
PARAMOUNT PICTURES
They support all types of films which means that they don’t
only appeal to a niche audience and they can afford to
distribute any kind of film and they will help make it
popular. Some of the films are more independent than
others that don’t have one group of people who will go and
see their film.
WHICH IS MORE SUITABLE FOR OUR
FILM?
Out of these films I believe that though Paramount
Pictures are a large cooperation with enough money to
make the film, they might be too big for an independent
film like the one we are trying to create. As New Line
Cinema are a better choice it does mean that there won’t
be a huge company name behind our film but it does
mean that we would still be able to make the film the way it
was meant to be.
