We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Film consumption
1. FILM EXHIBITION
AND CONSUMPTION
Traditional model of Exhibition
New Technologies – Home
cinema, the internet and digital
technology
Independent Exhibition
2. EXHIBITION
Exhibition is the retail branch of the film industry.
What the exhibitor sells is the experience of a film (and,
frequently, concessions like soft drinks and popcorn).
Because exhibitors to some extent control how films are
programmed, promoted, and presented to the public,
they have considerable influence over the box-office
success and, more importantly, the reception of films.
3. MULTIPLEXES
A multiplex is a movie theatre complex
with multiple screens, typically six to
ten screens. They are usually housed in
a specially designed building
The largest of these complexes can sit
thousands of people and are sometimes
referred to as a megaplex.
4. MULTIPLEXES
Cineworld and Odeon are the two biggest here
In American there is a lot more choice but the
biggest ones seem to be Cinemark (294) Regal
Entertainment (545), AMC (378) and Carmike
(244)
There are very strong laws in America about the
separation of Production Companies and
Exhibitors.
5. INDEPENDENT
THEATRES
Picture House
Apollo
The percentage film hire figure can be anywhere
between 25% and 60% of box office (after deducting
VAT from the ticket sales) and a ‘minimum guarantee
fee’
How are Independent Theatres different?
How do they market themselves?
What problems do they face
7. INTERESTING FACTS AND STATS
There are 14m cinema visits in an average month
Every week 10 -11 films are released in the UK (£1b in
receipt)
Of the top 200 films released in cinemas worldwide over
the last decade, no fewer that 34 were based on stories
and characters created by British writer
The total public funding of films amounts to around
£260m a year, including film production, tax relief,
lottery funding and broadcasters’ investments .
11. INTERESTING FACTS
AND STATS
Every person watches an average of 81 films a year. 80%
of those viewings are on Television (esp 40+yrs)
Cinemas only account for 3.5% of total film viewings
the rest is ‘Home Entertainment’
In 2011 the UK had 716 cinemas with 3,671 screens
(most are equipped to show digital content
62% of the pop goes to the cinema at least once a year,
19% goes at least once a month.
13. THE HOME ENTERTAINMENT
MARKET
This a thriving part of the industry esp here in the UK. Buy or
rent 350m films a year and it is worth close to £3b a year (three
times that of ticket prices)
15. EXPLOITATION
Theatrical Release
Non-theatrical (eg. Airlines) -12 - 14 weeks after
theatrical release
Home Entertainment - 14 - 16 weeks after theatrical
Pay Per View Television -18 - 22 weeks after
theatrical
Cable Television - 6 months to 1 year after theatrical
Network Television - 1 year after theatrical
But this is changing – releasing in EVERY format at once…
16. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Make a list of all of the digital technology that you can think
of that has an impact on the Film Industry.
Essay Questions
Post a decent comment on the following essay questions
‘The current revolution in technology is changing the
way both producers and audiences think of film and
the film experience’. How far do you agree with this
statement
How has the experience of watching films changed in
recent years and how do you think it might develop in
the future?
17. AND WHILE YOU ARE THERE…
Make sure that you have created a page with information about a
big current star
Start reading some of the information – esp the stuff about the
British Film industry and what David Cameron has been saying!
Find a resource that relates to Avatar (Connected to Production,
Distribution, Marketing, Exhibition, Consumption, or Audience
response) and post it on the Avatar Page
Sign all of your posts (unless you have registered as a user – good
boy Chris!) so I can see who is saying what !
