Abstract
This report is about field visit done under system engineering course we had
identified unique and our own experienced problem in college nearby area. The
problem is straightforward that there is a proper need of traffic management
system in Alandi Dehu Phata road as it is a T junction road where vehicles on
both side of road are restlessly driving and threatening the lives of students who
catch their city local buses to get back to home by bus.
Introduction
We visited Dehu Phata road and surrounding roads corresponding to campus on
27TH April 2018, Friday at 1:30 pm afternoon with our team to identify
problems and their stakeholders. We found that there was no proper town
planning done by nagar parishad of Alandi. this report may prove eye opener to
those who are responsible for it. It is noticed that Dehu Phata junction is a
important part of road transportation system which connects three roads like
Pimpri-Chinchwad Moshi road, bhosari road and Alandi road. As well as due
presence of academic institution on this it has got bus-stop which is one of the
major problem for creating traffic jams on roads. People generally in hurry meet
with an accident while crossing the road as there is no zebra crossing and traffic
signal system. Also, there is no road divider present on all three junctions of
road. We have also noticed improper construction of roads and during rainy
season roads have muddy potholes and summers are dusty. We have done
proper analysis of problem and solution in this report.
Stakeholder Analysis:
Sr. No Stakeholders of system
1 Students and faculties of MIT-AOE
2 Residents of PCMC, Alandi and PMC
3 Public Road Transportation Organization PMT/PCMT
4 Governing Organization like Alandi Nagar parishad and PCMC
municipal corporation
5 People who travel by road.
6 Civil Construction organization.
7 Collector,Tashildar etc.

Causal Loop diagram for problem
Here is CLD for the current problems of traffic which we are facing daily while
walking around or driving bike/car at Dehu Phata, Alandi. The major problem
behind traffic jam is that there is no any signal on Dehu Phata and due to this
people are driving carelessly. Another problem is that there is no divider, so
peoples used to overtake as they want and by their own way. For controlling
traffic, there is no traffic police and it leads to traffic jam at every half hour.
PMT stop is at Dehu Phata and to reach there we have to cross the road but due
to traffic and no speed limit many accidents occur. So, Alandi Municipal
Corporation must take note of this and make many changes at Dehu Phata to
reduce accidents and traffic.
Causal loop diagram for solution.
1) BRT implementation: It can decrease the traffic in Alandi at Dehu Phata
as their will be separate way for buses to go.
2) Road Divider: Building divider on the road will differentiate the
incoming and outgoing vehicles.
3) Speed breaker: It will help in decreasing the speed of vehicles.
4) Zebra crossing: It will be used by peoples while red signal for crossing
the road.
5) Cemented road: It decreases the number of wholes that form on roads
and also increases the life the road.
6) Silence board: This type of boards can be used near colleges for
reducing the noise created by the vehicles.
7) Specialised parking: This board can be plotted for parking of vehicle.
8) C.C.T. V cameras: These can be used for surveillance at different areas
and having the proper information about the traffic.
9) Road broadening: It helps in decreasing the traffic on the road as the
more number of vehicles can come and go at the same time.
Conclusion from system engineering point of view.
We had successfully completed our system engineering course field visit. In this
visit we have tried to solve and identify problem based on system thinking
approaches. We therefore hope much more city-based development in Alandi
area because of this report. Our report included real life problem identification
and its solution.
