An Observation Guide fora LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
Learningresource center was a facilitywithin a school which was operated
by a specialist and containingseveral information sources. It must be
developed and benefitted to educate all people and provide quality
education. It must havecurrent resources for it is an avenue for
learning.
As I visit and observe the different learningresource center, the
learningresources that were available orpresent were computers,
textbooks,magazines,newspapers,television,articles,DVD player, tapes
and etc… All materials were properlyarranged accordingto theirtypes and
functions. It seems that all materials havea proper maintenance because
they were free any dust.
Every learningresource center has its own guidelines orprocedures
and also rules. Those guidelines orprocedure and rules do not involvegreat
exertion ordiscomfort on the part of the users because theywere just easy
to adhere or practice.

Impression:
Learningresources are the materials used by teachers to enhance the skills
of students, help to discover the different aptitudes and it provides learning
experiences to the students. All learningresources must be contemporary
and the person in-charge must know how to efficientlyutilize it because
learningresources support curriculum.

Analysis
1. Were the learningresource/materials arranged properlyaccordingto
theirfunctions and characteristics?
All learningresources or materials were arranged properlyaccordingtheir
functions and characteristics. The books inside the librarywere properly
arranged as to theirtypes and functions. The proper arrangement of
learningresources help the teachers and students to locate it and it brings
convenience to both teachers and students.
2. Do the guidelines and procedure facilitate easyaccess to the materials
by the teachers? Why? Why not?
The guidelines and procedures facilitate easyaccess to the materials in such
a way that the guidelines and procedures do not involvegreat exertion or
discomfort on the part of the teachers or anyusers of it.
3. What are the strengths of this learningresource center?
Learningresource center can be developed and benefitted to educate all
people and provide qualityeducation. It will become strong when the
person in-charge knows how to efficientlyutilize it and the resources must
be sufficient and must be contemporarythat will suit to the latest trends in
the society.
4. What are its weaknesses?
A learningresource center was onlygood as the resources they haveand
the person runningit so if a learningresource center has insufficient or
outdated resources it will be weak. If theyhave current resources but no
one knows how to efficientlyutilize them so it will be also weak.
5. What suggestions can you make?
I suggest that learningresource center must be well planned and properly
managed so that it can function and give significant contribution to
developinglearningsocietyand establishingeducated society.Learning
resource center must be designed according to the interest of students so
that theirattention will be caught and it must be an information provider to
reinforce student’s learning.
Reflection
1. Which of the materials in the learningresources caught your interest
the most? Why?
It was the bookthat caught my interest because they were properly
arranged according to their types and functions. It seems that there was a
proper maintenance because most of the books were free from dust.
2. Which gadgets/materials are you alreadyconfident to use/operate?
The books, computer, projectorand other materials that were related to
multimedia presentation were the gadgets or materials that give me a
strong beliefin my own abilityto use or operate it.
3. Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?
I need to learn more about the use of computers in presentingtopics. It is
important forme to be familiarand understandclearlyits appropriateness
and effectiveness in deliveringa topic.

Date of Visit: August 16, 2012
As I look around and examine the board displays,Ihavefound out that
every classroom has its own board display. Some classrooms have a bulletin
board for birthdays ofstudents, classroom cleaners, classroom officers,
classroom activities and announcementand the most common was the
board displaythat contains the topics to be discussed in a certain grading
period.
I haveseen 3 board displays outside the classroom but it was more
than that if I will examine the whole campus. Board displays were located in
front of the canteen, near the facultyroom and also near the entrance gate.
Most of it was announcements, activities orevents in school and etc… The
announcements were written in a formal way that everyone can quickly and
clearly understand, the information were arranged past to latest and the
materials used havea high qualitythat can last for a longer time. Board
displaynearthe entrance of the gate was covered by a class, so as to give
protection to the content and materials used.
Messages were clear enough as I read it and it can be easily
understood because there were no misspelled words or any inconsistencies
in grammar.

Analysis
1. Did the board displaydesign reflect the likes or interest of its target
audience?Why? or Why not?
Definitelyyes because of its style, selection of colors and materials, the title
and the theme seem to be a student made.Since it is made by certain
students,so I can say that everythingbeingposted are being reflected on
the likes or interest of its target audience because the main target audience
are also the students but it is not the totalitybecause every student has its
own style. It simplymeans that one student is different from another
student in terms of theirlikes or interest.
2. Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to
understand?Why? Or Why not?
Yes, it was. The font and size of the words were formal enough to be read by
the target audience and the words were also bold enough to be clearly seen.
The words used were appropriate to the level of the students where in the
students who will read it can understand its thought.
3. What do you thinkwas the purpose ofthe board display? Was it
effective? Why? Or Why not?
In my own point ofview, the purpose of the boards was to convey
information to the students such as informationabout the content ofthe
subjects, proper hygiene, values informationand latest trends in the society.
It also serves as motivation tool forthe students to do theirbest and as I
lookin it, it reallyworks for it s purpose.By it designs it holds attention, the
contents were appropriate that provide learninginformation, and the
boards were not merely filled with written words but also pictures that
facilitates easyunderstanding.
4. What suggestions can you make?
I suggest rearrangingsome of the words to convey much clear thought of
the sentence. The content must have somethingnew that gives opportunity
to the student to participate orinteract and it is important also to update
the content. It would be also nice to add more contents which will invite the
participation ofthe students aside from information that it conveys.

Reflection
1. Name at least five skills that a teacher should haveto be able to come
up with effective board displays.Elaborate on whyeach skill is needed.
Creative– the teacher can create ideas in a limitless way
Informative– the board displaymust havevaried yet appropriate
information
Idealistic– the teacher must thinkof an idea of what his/her board display
would looklike and how it will work for the learningofthe target
audience
Artistic-the teachermust have a sense of art in order to make an attractive
board display
Resourceful– resourcefulness ofa teacher may contribute to the
enhancement ofthe board
2. Which of the skills do you alreadyhave? Recall your past experiences in
making board displays.Howdo you practice these skills?
I havea sense of idealism and resourcefulness,a little ofbeing creative,
informativeand artistic. It was high school days when I started making a
board display. The content was the whole topicthat covers our third grading
period.I learn how to make boarders and design a letter specificallythe Old
Text English Style because that was my favorite font text. It was my first
time to make a board display, thus Istill need to improveand practice those
skills for future.
I practice those skills every time I do artworks such as making portfolios and
scrapbooks.
3. Which skills do you need to develop?Reflect on how you can improve
on or acquire these skills?
I thinkI need to develop my artisticskills because in designinga board
displayI must know how to combine colors, make designs appropriate to
the theme and purposed of the board display, and to make it attractive. To
have an artisticskills,I must practice it while still a student, thus I must apply
it every time I’m doingan artworks such as portfolios and scrapbooks. There
is also a need for me to accept criticism from others towards my work in
order for me to develop or improvemy work.
I need also to develop my informativeskills byreadingbooks and magazines,
searchingthrough internet, and most of all to be updated about the events
or happenings in this world.

effectively. The topics were written in a manila paper and there was
legibilityin the content because it can be quicklyand clearly understoodby
students sittingat the back. There was experientiallearningthat happens

the learningmaterials that the teacher provides. The teacher let her
students read every detail in the visual aids, actuallywhat was written on
the visual aid were questions forthe students to be answered.
Many of them were raisingtheirhands to answer questions and it
simplyindicates the student’s attentiveness, eagerness and understanding.
As I closely observed the student’s simple gestures,it was inevitable forme
to conclude that they were interested on the lesson. The focus of theirsight
was merely on the teacher and the learningresources, and some of them
were frowningmaybe it’s because they were very doubtful ordissented
about the answer of theirclassmate. Those simple gestures of students
were the indication ofattentiveness, eagerness and understanding.

Analysis
1. What do you thinkprompted the teacher to choose the
materials/learningresources that she/ he used?
In my own understanding, the teacher wanted to let her students to be
attentiveand participativein theirlesson, and also let her students utilize
theiranalytical skills. The instructional materialsused were the perfect fit
because the purpose was accomplished. It reallycatches the attention ofthe
students and it aids the teacher’ intention. The instructional materials serves
as a clear representationthat was capable of giving clear information,
through this,ht students were actively engaged in the discussion and the
teacher was trying to use her creativeness and resourcefulness to facilitate
the learning.
2. What difficulties,if any,did the teacher experience? How can this be
managed?
As I closely observed, there was no difficultythat the teacher experienced.
The class was well managed and the teacher did not find it hard to convince
her students to participate in the discussion and activity. There was an
interaction between the students and the teacher, and the teacher makes
sure that her students stayon task as observed.
3. Over-all, were the learningresources/materials used effectively?Why?
Why not?
Yes, all students were actively engaged in the discussion byansweringthe
questions written in the visual aid and some of them were able to answer
what was asked. The teacher gives appreciation to those students who
answer the questions correctlyand to those who were not able to give their
correct answer; the teacher gives feedback to improvelearning.Through the
score of students on theirquiz that shows a positiveresult,I can conclude
that learningmaterial was used effectively.
Reflection
Put yourselfin the place of the teacher. What would you do similarlyand
what would you do differentlyif you will teach the same lesson to the same
group of students?Why?
If I will be the teacher of that class teachingwith the same lesson,I will also
provide activities in order for students to havean opportunityto practice
and applytheirlearningafter learninga particularknowledge, skills and
attitudes.Iwill also use the same teaching approach which is the inquiry
approach.
If it is possible, I will integrate the use of ICT tools because the concept of
computer literacy for students has been redefined (creatingweb pages,
digitizingmultimediaand the use of social networkingsites) thus I have to
be aware of this trends,as my own teachingeffectiveness will depend on my
understandingofthese recent technological trends. With this reason,I will
create a game through the use of projectorin a way that has relation to the
tropic.I will also present a power point presentationthat contains mytopic
for that day. Through this, the students will be attentiveand participativein
the lesson and it brings convenience to my part. If the resources are not
available, Iwill use the chalkboard and I will provide them an interactive
activityby dividingthem into groups to be followed by a short discussion,
this is to facilitate the visual, auditoryand bodilyorkinestheticlearners.
After I implement the instruction,Iwill evaluate students byprovidingan
assessment method that is suited to the needs and interest of the students
in order for me to measure the retention of students iftheyhave achieved
mastery, and to know if I’m going to proceed or revise the instruction.

Analysis
Give at least three benefits of doinga survey of available materials before
making yourown materials yourown materials?Explain each
1. Doing survey of available materialswill give me a new idea of
what to make and how to make it.There may be unique learningmaterials
that could be beneficial to the lessons that I will be teaching, and by looking
at the other materials can have additionalinformation on what to do.
Through survey I can gain competence in preparinginstructional materials
that are appropriate to the learningcontent, learningobjectives and
learningstyles of my students.
2. Doing survey can help me realize what other learningmaterials
that I need to make or avail in order to enhance learningin my class. Doing
surveys provide several options as well as bases for me to choose so that I
can produce an appropriate and effectivematerials that should be based on
students characteristics orlearningstyles and to my lesson objectives. It is
also necessary that the materials must be applicable to the subject matter.
3. Doing survey may also help me evaluate the materials I will be
making is beneficial orrelevant to my lesson. The information that Ihave
gathered duringthe survey will serve as my bases or guide on howI am
going to evaluate my materials. It is important forme to evaluate the
materials that I will be makingso that I can produce an improved and
developed materials based from the evaluation Ihave made, with this
reason I can gain competence in making instructionalmaterials that are
appropriateto the learningcontent,learningobjectives,and learningstyles
of my students.
Reflection
Which of the materials did you like making the most? Why?
I like making power point presentationsbecause it’s easy for me to put
different graphic designs, effects and transitions.Ican also insert pictures,
video clips and even sounds. My purpose ofselecting power point
presentationamongother instructional materials is to make a clear
representationand while presentinga topic,it is necessary for me to
monitorand facilitate to make sure that students stayon task. I believe that
making power point presentations aids in enhancingcreativity.
What difficulties, ifany, did you encounter in making the materials? How did
you overcome them?
I do not encounter any problems in making presentation because the power
point program has a guide on howto use it. Making a presentationusing
power point program is just an easy taskfor me. The onlythingwhich I
consider a problem for me is on how I’m going to deliverthe content in my
presentation.
What tips can you give teachers regarding presentation ofteaching?
The teacher must assess first what are the learningstyles of his/her
students.She/he must see to it that his/her materials will fit to the learning
styles of the students and must be applicable forhis/her subject matter for
the materials to be effective. The chosen materials must be appropriate and
can contribute to the achievement of learningobjectives. In today’s
generation,it is important fora teacher to meet the changing needs and
interest of students, thus several factors must consider such as practicality,
availability, cost effectiveness and appropriateness that is based on
student’s characteristics orlearningstyles and lesson objectives. The
teacher may also do surveys to the available materials orcan search through
the internet.

Combination reactions– in this type of reaction two or more substances
maybe element or compound react to form a single product.
The combinationofiron and sulfur to form iron (II) sulfide is an example of a
synthesis reaction:
8 Fe + S8 → 8 FeS
Decomposition reactions– this type ofreaction occurs when a compound
breaks up into its component parts. It can be two or more substances out of
a compound
The electrolysis of water into oxygen and hydrogen gas is an example of a
decompositionreaction:
2 H2O → 2 H2 + O2
Replacement reactions– this type of reaction occurs when an element is set
free from its compound producinga new element and new compound.
An example of a substitutionreaction occurs when zinc combines with
hydrochloricacid.The zinc replaces the hydrogen:
Zn + 2 HCl → ZnCl2 + H2
Double replacement reactions-a type of reaction in which two compounds
combined to form two new compounds byexchangingtheirradicals.
An example of a double displacement reaction occurs between sodium
chloride and silvernitrate to form sodium nitrate and silverchloride.
NaCl(aq)+ AgNO3(aq) → NaNO3(aq)+ AgCl(s)

Analysis
1. After working on your handout, answer the followingquestions:
What are the good features of a handout?
A good handout must be concise and can be understoodbythe readers.
There must be subtitles that make it easier to read and the key words must
be in bold type in order to have an emphasis. To shorten it, the use of bullet
point format may contribute as well as the use of diagrams, flowcharts and
etc… Make sure that all the important pintsofthe presentationare on the
hand out and do not include too much information, otherwise it can become
cluttered. The content must be easilyrecognized and it must be sequence
properlyto avoid confusion. The content must havelegibility.
2. Which of these features are present in the hand out I made?
Most of these features are present. The handout that Imade was concise
and comprehensive. The key concepts were emphasized because theyare in
bold type.I also use bullets, concept map. I contained all the important
points ofthe presentationand I sequenced the details properlyto avoid
misconceptions.
The use of bullets and concept map helps me to summarize the types of
chemical reactions.
3. Which features are not present in the handout Imade?
Honestly, there was a poorlegibilityon the handout that Imade. My
penmanship was not good enough to make my handoutvery attractiveto
the eyes of the readers, yet there is a chance to enhance its legibilityby
usingone of the applications ofa computer specificallythe Microsoft word
office.
I did not use anysubtitles because in my own point ofview it is not
necessary to use subtitles forthat subject matter.
Reflection
What difficulties, ifany, did you encounter been making the handouts? How
did you overcome them?
To make a handout is not totallydifficult as longas I havea reliable source
or references and assistance from a computer. The onlything that tooktime
and needed brain stormingis the conceptualization ofthe flow of the
handout and the concept map that I included. So first I did was to make an
outline ofthe content of my handout then I read several references and
searchingthrough the internet just to form my concept map.
I also find difficult in providingexamples in every chemical reactions. So
what I did was to read and understand the details in everychemical reaction
so that I can give correct examples.
What tips can you give teachers regarding preparation ofhandouts?
The teacher must identifyfirst her objectives and the purpose in making the
handout. Then he/she must conceptualize the flowand the content of the
handout bymakingan outline. The teacher must also read several
references so that the handout will be an informativetool for the students
learning.
In terms of the content of the handout the teacher must use subtitles in
order for the students to read it easilyand the keywords must be in bold
type in order to havean emphasis.Bullet point format and concept map
must be use to summarize the content. The teacher must put all the
important pointsin the handout and he/she must not include too much
information to avoid cluttering. The teacher must know how to sequence
the content in order to avoid confusions

My Target
At the end of this activity,I will gain competence in developingand
utilizingmaterials (slide presentations)which involvestudentsin meaningful
learning.
Analysis
1. What are the good features of a slide presentation?
A good slide should include transitions oreffects to put
emphasis on some points ofthe lesson, but not too many.It must have also
one design or theme for whole slides to avoid confusion orany
misconception. The slides must not too long, nor too short to avoid
clutteringin the slides.A pictures speaks thousands words, hence photos
must be included in the slides to let students knowwhat I am talkingabout.
The contents of the slides are important points ofthe lesson and must not
include the whole words that I have to say for the whole discussion.
2. Which of these features are present in the slide presentationyou
made?
The features that are present in my slide presentation that I
have made are the transitions, effects, only one theme or design for the
whole slide and also pictures that help students visualize theirthoughts or
ideas.
My slide presentation was not too long or too short and I give
emphasis on the contents because theyare the important points ofmy
lesson.
3. Which features are not present in the slide presentation you made?
All those good features of a slide presentation that Ihave cited
are present in my slide presentation.Idid not mention the sound effects
and music, for me it is not essential to use all the time because it brings
distraction to my discussion. There are times that music and sound effects
are highlyneeded especiallyin presentinga video presentation
Reflection
1. What difficulties,if any,did you encounter in makingthe slide
presentation?How did you overcome them?
Making power point presentationis very interestingto me because I can do
most that I wanted to do to make my slides a clear representationand as a
tool of information sources. So far, there were no difficulties that I have
encountered because the program has guides on how to use its features. If
there is a certain feature which I don’t know howto use, then I just simply
click help or go to a website specificallythe Google to find the answer if
there is an internet access.

It allows the students

It provides the needs

It will be onlyweak if

Before I give the topicor activities to be searched by students,I must ensure

must also give proper instruction to the students before they search such
websites by explainingto them the learninggoals to be achieved before
searchingany websites so that the students will stayfocused duringthe
activity. When students get confused,I must provide guidance and
directions, guide questions and activitiesorscenarios. It is also important to
have a followup discussions to make some generalizations forthat topic.
Using the internet as an informationtool is good and effective. Upon
surfingon the internet,I saw many websites that haveprograms to make
learningfun and effective. Some of the websites have games and other has
tutorial programs but aside from those benefits, internet access may also be
dangerous to the learners. From the websites I visited, some of the learning
is incorporated with violence games and pornographicphotos and videos
which are not good influence to the students.Usinginternet as an
information tool is good and effective but proper supervision ofthe teacher
is highlyneeded and before giving the topicor any activityto be searched,I
must check first the websites and choose those that are safe for the
students.
Over All Reflection
As a future teacher someday,I will always bearin my mind
that learners are rich in learningcapabilities. The process of learningare
highlyunique and individual, this means that in a classroom there are
individual differences that I must consider.I need to assist my future
students to define and to make explicit to themselves the approaches they
ordinarilyuse so that they can become more effective in problem solving
and learning.I learned that one of the riches resources for learningis the
learners himself. Each learner has an accumulation ofexperiences, ideas,
feelings and attitude which comprise a rich vein of material forproblem
solvingand learning.I consider learners as the richest resources for learning
because they have theirown aptitude which are theirinnate talent orgift ,
interest which express deep feelings for objects or actions and made their
stay pleasant and enjoyable, theyalso havetheirown abilitywhich pictates
the prospect of success in any purposeful activity, attitude which is the
learners perspectiveand disposition and last theirfamilyorcultural
background which is theirsocio-economicbackground.
I also learn that learningis the discoveryof personal
meaningand relevance of ideas. As a future teacher, I will onlyfacilitate my
learners and they are the one who will give the meaningof a concept. Just
like for example, my topic is all about the leaf of a plant.I will let them have
field trip outside the classroom to observethe leaf of a plant.I will guide
them and I will demonstrate first and give some information about the leaf
and its parts after that, they will give theirown meaningor understanding
about the leaf and its parts.Learningis gradual it’s because it is by stages or
levels so as a future teacher somedayI must extend my patience.
To be good teacher somedayI must havepassion to both my work
and to my students,I must havealso humorin a way that has connection to
the topic,also values and attitude, fairness,sincerityand honesty,and
professionalism.

An Observation Guide fora LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER Learningresource center was a facilitywithin a school which was operated by a specialist and containingseveral information sources. It must be developed and benefitted to educate all people and provide quality education. It must havecurrent resources for it is an avenue for learning. As I visit and observe the different learningresource center, the learningresources that were available orpresent were computers, textbooks, magazines, newspapers, television, articles,DVD player, tapes and etc… All materials were properlyarranged accordingto theirtypes and functions. It seems that all materials havea proper maintenance because they were free any dust. Every learningresource center has its own guidelines orprocedures and also rules. I havea sense of idealism and resourcefulness,a little ofbeing creative, informativeand artistic. It was high school days when I started making a board display. The content was the whole topicthat covers our third grading period.I learn how to make boarders and design a letter specificallythe Old Text English Style because that was my favorite font text. It was my first time to make a board display, thus Istill need to improveand practice those skills for future. I practice those skills every time I do artworks such as making portfolios and scrapbooks. 3. Which skills do you need to develop?Reflect on how you can improve on or acquire these skills? I thinkI need to develop my artisticskills because in designinga board displayI must know how to combine colors, make designs appropriate to the theme and purposed of the board display, and to make it attractive. To have an artisticskills,I must practice it while still a student, thus I must apply it every time I’m doingan artworks such as portfolios and scrapbooks. There is also a need for me to accept criticism from others towards my work in order for me to develop or improvemy work. What do you thinkprompted the teacher to choose the materials/learningresources that she/ he used? In my own understanding, the teacher wanted to let her students to be attentiveand participativein theirlesson, and also let her students utilize theiranalytical skills. The instructional materialsused were the perfect fit because the purpose was accomplished. It reallycatches the attention ofthe students and it aids the teacher’ intention. The instructional materials serves as a clear representationthat was capable of giving clear information, through this,ht students were actively engaged in the discussion and the teacher was trying to use her creativeness and resourcefulness to facilitate the learning. 2. What difficulties,if any,did the teacher experience? How can this be managed? As I closely observed, there was no difficultythat the teacher experienced. The class was well managed and the teacher did not find it hard to convince her students to participate in the discussion and activity. There was an interaction between the students and the teacher, and the teacher makes sure that her students stayon task as observed.
  • 22. 3. Over-all, were the learningresources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not? Yes, all students were actively engaged in the discussion byansweringthe questions written in the visual aid and some of them were able to answer what was asked. The teacher gives appreciation to those students who answer the questions correctlyand to those who were not able to give their correct answer; the teacher gives feedback to improvelearning.Through the score of students on theirquiz that shows a positiveresult,I can conclude that learningmaterial was used effectively. Reflection Put yourselfin the place of the teacher. What would you do similarlyand what would you do differentlyif you will teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why? If I will be the teacher of that class teachingwith the same lesson,I will also provide activities in order for students to havean opportunityto practice and applytheirlearningafter learninga particularknowledge, skills and attitudes.Iwill also use the same teaching approach which is the inquiry approach. If it is possible, I will integrate the use of ICT tools because the concept of computer literacy for students has been redefined (creatingweb pages, digitizingmultimediaand the use of social networkingsites) thus I have to be aware of this trends,as my own teachingeffectiveness will depend on my understandingofthese recent technological trends. With this reason,I will create a game through the use of projectorin a way that has relation to the tropic.I will also present a power point presentationthat contains mytopic for that day. Through this, the students will be attentiveand participativein the lesson and it brings convenience to my part. If the resources are not available, Iwill use the chalkboard and I will provide them an interactive activityby dividingthem into groups to be followed by a short discussion, this is to facilitate the visual, auditoryand bodilyorkinestheticlearners.

There must be subtitles that make it easier to read and the key words must be in bold type in order to have an emphasis. To shorten it, the use of bullet point format may contribute as well as the use of diagrams, flowcharts and etc… Make sure that all the important pintsofthe presentationare on the hand out and do not include too much information, otherwise it can become cluttered. The content must be easilyrecognized and it must be sequence properlyto avoid confusion. The content must havelegibility. 2. Which of these features are present in the hand out I made? Most of these features are present. The handout that Imade was concise and comprehensive. The key concepts were emphasized because theyare in bold type.I also use bullets, concept map. I contained all the important points ofthe presentationand I sequenced the details properlyto avoid misconceptions. The use of bullets and concept map helps me to summarize the types of chemical reactions. 3. Which features are not present in the handout Imade?
