This document analyzes the design elements of several double page spreads from magazines. It discusses the use of color schemes, titles, images, and column layouts across the pages. Specific techniques like the rule of thirds and drop caps are called out. Both conventional and unconventional design choices are examined, such as a large central image that does not bleed across the gutter or a layout split into four columns. The goal of the analysis is to understand how the design elements are used to effectively engage readers and tell the story.

2. Q has a red colour scheme running throughout
the entire magazine so there for this is the reason
why the enlarged background letter is red. It is
also an L as the article is about Lady Gaga so
therefore represents her.
The title for this magazine is very simply the name of
the artist on the otherside of the page, this is very
conventional and if consumers did not know who the
star was they would easily recognise the name.
This double page spread has a very clear main
image which takes up one whole side of the page.
Although it isn’t very conventional as it does not
bleed anywhere over the crease onto the other
page.
The article for this
magazine has used
the rule of thirds
which is very
important, where is
has been split into
three Coolum's of
writing. The starts
of the paragraphs
also have a drop
cap which is very
important for
double page
spreads and also
engages the
readers attention.
By using a
black and
white colour
scheme for
the photo it
adds dramatic
effect and
also attracts
the audience
in. It also
makes the red
L on the other
page stand
out even
more.
3. The main colour for this double page spread is
bright blue and appears at many points over the
page mainly on the most important parts, which
looks very effective and makes you want to read it.
There is a very clear image on this page as it takes
up the whole left hand side, the photo has also
used the rule of three as there are three artist all
equally spaced out.
The title of the page is very effective as it fits
with the colour scheme and is also very
bright and bold, this is conventional as well
as it bleeds over the crease to the other
page.
The need to
know box is a
very effective
way of drawing
the audience in
as the bright
colours grab
their attention
and there fore
will want to read
more.
Having an extra
section on the
page makes the
page look fuller
with more
information, it
also helps split
the page so it is
easier to read.
The right side of the page is very
unconventional as it is split in two
four columns, Three of them filled
up by text and one covered with
large images relating to the story.
4. This magazine also does not use the rule of three,
as the page is split into four columns also made up
of text although it does not go the whole way down
the page, this makes the page look more effective
and dramatic.
The smaller sub
image in the top
right corner
isn't very
conventional as
there is usually
only one main
image.
Although it
helps tell the
reader more
about the page
The main image on this page is vey clear. Even though it does not take up
one whole page it takes up the bottom on the pages on each side, This is
very unusual but works well making the page more dramatic which would
cause the readers to take a read.
The colour
scheme of the
page is very
natural by using
just grey black
and white, this
makes the page
more dramatic,
also with just the
first subtitle on
the page being a
different colour
that is where the
audience will look
first.
A very small
description has been
given about the photo
this is simple
information about the
model and
photographer just to
give the readers an
inside look.
