There are seven types of lions, with six living in Africa and one small group living in a protected reserve in India. Lions were once found as far north as Europe and England but now primarily live in Africa and India, where they are endangered due to a disease called distemper. Lions live in prides in grasslands and dens, and are a mammal and vertebrate classified under the cat family, feeding at the top of food chains that include grass, wildebeest, and the lion itself.
