2. Analysis of cover pages
Loads going in the
Bold page, images etc
masthead This certain magazine cover, Kerrang,
suits the genre very well, as it is bold
but includes brightness from the red
colour used selectively on certain text
and puffs. It also looks spaced out and
orderly however still is jam packed
with images, text and other
information the magazine includes.
It also fits around the main image
(being a rock artist,) very well as the
information and articles around him
Red, white doesn't distract the reader away.
and black The Magazine cover is also very
colours to
reader friendly and contains magazine
stand out
and suit stereoypes and conventions as it
the Rock includes news articles, A Barcode and
genre Pale
background so
taglines etc
Intrigues the
other info etc reader in with
stands out extras etc
3. Typical Mast

Analysis of cover page 2
known NME Free posters to draw Not many This Certain NME magazine cover page
logo customers in, extras images around
fits the alternative/General music genre
page- Bold
and is very spaced out, This magazine
cover is similar in many ways to the
Kerrang magazine cover, however also
alot different, as they both include
similar conventions likle they both
include bright colours, Mastheads,
Barcodes, taglines, information etc,
However on the other hand, you can
determine the different genre’s, like you
can tell this NME cover is targeting more
at a wider range of audiences, like
Very teenagers to middle aged female and
spaced male, where as the Kerrang cover has
out more of a rock genre feel that targets
more at a younger audience, for example
it includes images of younger a class,
All articles are fit includes colours to fit a younger
well around the main Audience like bright and bold, where as
image/cover Barcode this NME magazine is better contrasted
‘Morrisey’ and spacious for possibly an older reader.

5. Similar magazines
• Comparing my magazine type, with other magazines, i think it is the
most similar to NME, as the music types are similar and the target
audience is, except that NME is probably targeting more males,
where my magazine i've chosen to do is targeting the more female
side of the genre of the music.
•
• The focus of these types of magazines, such as NME, focus's on the
music side and information base of the type of music.
•
• The editor of NME is Krissi Murison, and is owned by the company
IPC, and target audience of ages 16-19.
• Normally magazines such as NME are around £2.50, However
include loads of information tour dates etc
6. Conventions
• The conventions of these style of magazines, include similar styles and
layout, for instance they all have a certain colour scheme that fits,
• For example Kerrang and NME are magazines that are very popular and
have been round a long time, therefore the conventions of these
magazines are spot on, for instance, their mastheads are iconic and
noticable, the backgrounds etc are also very clearly shown and stand out
with the colours used, which have been carefully selected so the reader
spots out what the editor wants them to.
7. Info on other magazines
• For NME and Kerrang magazines, the two both were published a long time
ago such as; NME- 7 March 1952, and Kerrang’s first publish being 6 June
1981 therefore these types of magazines have had years of experience
and improvement, Kerrang is published by Bauer Media Group.
• The distribution of these magazines are very regular as both are popular
magazines and take up a big segment in the Music magazine market as
they cover a wide target audience and a wide range of conventions.
