For the cover shoot, she chose similar clothing and makeup as Grimes that fit the genre of music the magazine focuses on, and had the models make eye contact with the camera to relate to readers, using a medium shot that follows conventions of magazine cover images.
Photo shoot evidence
Rebecca Phillips chose a model that represents the music genre of her magazine through her fashion sense and appearance. She asked the model to bring clothes that aligned with the magazine's indie/hipster style inspiration. Phillips did the model's makeup with dark eye makeup to make her eyes stand out for the photoshoot. She shot inside to control the lighting, using lamps, a reflector, and a white sheet against a green screen to properly light the model and create flowing shadows reminiscent of her inspiration.
Questionnaire results
Rebecca Phillips analyzed research on her target audience for an indie music magazine. She found that the audience should be 16-25 years old, mainly male, as that is the convention for indie magazines. However, she will include some female-oriented content to fill a gap in the market. Most of the target audience is in full-time education, so the language in the magazine will be at a high level to match their understanding of English. The magazine will also include reviews of live music events and festivals, as well as new music and artists, since keeping up with these is enjoyed by the target audience.
Regional identity in TV Dramas
This document analyzes how cinematography and film techniques are used in the BBC period drama "North and South" to portray contrasts between the industrial Northern town and rural Southern countryside, as well as stereotypes of Northern and Southern characters. To add a new document in Photoshop, go to File then New and select the paper size and type. To add an image, go to File then Place and select the image file. The document describes various selection, editing, and manipulation tools in Photoshop like the Marquee, Lasso, Clone Stamp, and Fill tools and provides examples of using them to remove earrings from an image, change the background color, and adjust contrast and brightness.
Images for my school based magazine
Rebecca chose the first image for the magazine cover because it is well-lit with clear focus on the model's facial features despite her holding a book. The main subject has good ratio to the background books while still including them for the reading theme. The model looks happy and focused as a student based on her clothing and lanyard.
She chose the second image for an inside feature because the student looks happy and relaxed, fitting the feature, and her outfit is school appropriate. The background shows she is in a corridor, linking to the article title.

Researching Magazine Institutions
The 4 major magazine institutions in the UK are Bauer Media, IPC Media, BBC, and EMAP. Bauer Media publishes over 300 magazines worldwide and transfers some concepts like Kerrang to radio. IPC Media creates magazines, websites, and mobile/tablet content across many genres that reach 26 million adults monthly. BBC magazines have a large overall audience across genres like children, music, and food. EMAP specialized in magazine production and radio, creating 59 magazines total, most notably Smash Hits and Nintendo Official Magazine, reaching 2 million people monthly. Companies continue to create magazines as a popular mass media, but now must also offer digital formats to keep audiences as media evolves.
Conventions of a school magazine

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. - 2. I asked 5 people whilst in Leeds what is their opinions on my final product. I asked 3 females and 2 males who were within the my target age of 16-25 year olds. This is the response they gave.
- 3. “The beginning of the paragraph is a bit boring. You can’t really see where is starts, it just jumps into the text”
- 4. Listening to my feedback, I decided to add a drop cap to the beginning of my text. This had improved my magazine because it draws the reader’s attention to the beginning of the paragraph, making them want to read further. Furthermore it is a convention of double page spreads.
- 5. “The quote doesn’t really stand out enough. It would be easy to overlook this.”
- 6. To attract my reader’s attention to my pull quote, I decided to use a graphic feature around it. I think adding the large white speech marks makes the pull quote stand out and adds more interest for the reader. It also breaks up the amount of text and image on the page.
- 7. “I think the spacing between the lines of the headline is too much. It makes the text underneath look squashed.”
- 8. “You need to reduce the spacing between the lines of your coverlines. They are all the same and they looks boring.”
- 9. I reduced the spacing between the lines of the cover-lines and increased the font. This makes the overall appearance of the magazine more professional.
- 10. “The lines going vertically are too close to the text”
- 11. I reduced the text and image size so there was a wider gap between the text and lines. This makes the text easier to read.
