Unexpectedly Important Characters in House of the Spirits...
Isabel Allende in House of the Spirits portrayed many seemingly minor characters that ended up
having a greater role than expected. One of the unexpected characters was Alba. Despite the fact that
Alba was not born until chapter nine, she played a significant role in the plot of the story and character
dynamics of the Trueba family and other strong men and women. This then lead to the fact that
Allende built up powerful and outspoken personalities to ultimately create one strong character, Alba,
who finished the novel with a shocking and hopeful ending. Alba was brought into the world as a
beautiful baby, with good astrological fortune. In her first hours, she already had traits that resembled
her to two strong minded characters, Rosa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So as eccentric as Alba s living conditions already were, things get even more unusual when she began
to undergo Nicholas s weekly teachings of pain induration. Her uncle helped her think of all these
things without crying, and taught her to relax and not resist the pain so that it would pass through her
without stopping (Page 274). Little Alba, who worked hard for her uncle s appreciation participated
and cooperated through all his activities. If she managed to get through ... all the tests Nicholas
imposed, she won a prize (Page 274). While held captive by Esteban Garcia and the Security Police
this ability helped her withstand the suffering. Alba inherited Nicholas s quality of endurance and self
dignity that helped her survive The Terror . Jaime provided Alba with a vast knowledge of medicine
and the human anatomy through his revealing books. This knowledge of the human body surprised
Esteban Garcia when [he] took her hand and placed it on his stiffened sex [and she replied] [y]our
penis (Page 286). Jaime also taught Alba to do as she pleased, and not what pleased others. This then
helped her remain loyal to what she thought was right during all that she overcame. A strong minded
character that made a significant appearance in the novel was Amanda. Amanda was introduced as
Nicholas s girlfriend, who believed in the freedom of pleasure (Page 216 and 222). They encouraged
his [Nicholas] love for her (Page 220). Jaime fell in love with her at first

Themes InThe Rememberer And Jealous Husband Return In Form...
Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns
in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is
going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben
remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the
husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a
parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him
from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share
a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing
internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution.
She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling
herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her,
she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous
Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being
purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with
other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as
a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into
animals.
They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The
Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander.
Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot.
Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is
turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of
the tree, so he will not change forms. Although, in The Rememberer, both Annie and Ben know that he
is still

Analysis Of The Movie House
When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two
things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. Everything in my life had been improving! Darry
and I rarely fought, instead of tension, there was a connection. Even though he never said it, I could
tell he felt it too. I was still thinking about Johnny a ton (it had been 7 weeks since he had died), but I
had accepted that he wasn t with us physically. I kept him in my heart, and instead of grieving, I
remembered all of our fun times together. Moving on, school was better than ever. After I turned in my
essay, it made its way up to the school board. They sent a copy home with each kid, so the parents
would know what really happened. The truth was revealed, and I made some good buddies, who didn t
care if I was a Greaser, or a Soc, or a middle man. My grades were back to straight A s and Darry was
as proud as can be. I had to quit track, in order to make time for football. I m was and still am the
starting running back on my high school football team, and Darry had just quit one of his jobs, when
he got offered the position of head coach. He was still fixing roofs, and coaching football at the same
time. Darry was happy, he had found a way to follow his dreams. That was last month. By the end of
this week, our lives had changed! One random Thursday, after Darry came home from roofing, he told

Odyssey Vs Penelopiad Essay
When studying the texts of Homer s The Odyssey and Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad , varying
perspectives will arise. In the male dominated era of Greece, men were regarded as valiant warriors,
heroes of national importance, and overall superior beings while women were perceived as the
subordinate gender, often expected to remain in the household to bear and raise children. Since these
concepts are present in both texts, it is apparent that gender roles are the focal point of discussion in
Homer s and Atwood s literary works. With a more contemporary approach, the role of women can be
reassessed as something of great importance and power (Weinbaum 3). The goddesses depicted in The
Odyssey , Athena and Calypso, each represent an important theme of a woman s intelligence and
power to form bonds and the role in Odysseus homecoming, whether it is to provide guidance or cause
difficulty. Similarly in The Penelopiad , the maids residing in Odysseus household use their femininity
to build relationships with the suitors and utilize their power to obtain valuable information for
Odysseus wife Penelope. In addition, Penelope maintains her relationship with her husband and
remains faithful to assure a suitable homecoming for Odysseus.

The Last Winter Film Analysis
ABSTRACT
Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards
ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton,
2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that
people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull
subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of
movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or benefits
of environmental change more creatively.
This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions,
impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths,
consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was in
2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and shall
discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological change
message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered.
FILM PLOT
The Last Winter is a disaster movie, which bases its storyline on global warming as an event that
brings strange events that could not be explained entirely easily. Oil exploration is one of the
significant activities happening in the area as a team of engineers

The Conflict Between Waverly And Her Mother
However, the conflict between Waverly and her mother is very realistic, due to the nature that many
mothers and daughters have different views which causes disagreements. The people of Chinese
descent have their Chinese heritage, but struggle to keep true to their traditions while living around
American culture. The major conflict in the story, the clash of different cultures, leads to the
weakening of the relationship between the two characters. For example, when Waverly reenters the
apartment after running away, she sees the remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to
bones swimming upstream in vain escape (Tan 508). Waverly sees herself as the fish, stripped clean
by her mother s power, unable to break free. Through the major conflict, the characters struggle to
keep their relationship healthy and loving. Tan explains the feelings of Waverly through an important
symbolic imaginary chess game as she writes, My white pieces screamed as they scurried and fell off
the board one by one. As her men drew closer to my edge, I felt myself growing light (508). This
shows how Waverly feels about the relationship with her mother and how she is losing the battle. The
conflicts are important, especially to the theme, for the conflicts shows where the lack of
understanding comes from and how it can be resolved.
Amy Tan uses symbolism to show the cultures and how this interacts with the conflict of the story.
One example is she used the game of chess as more than

PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Axel Estable (Instructor)
July 29th , 2015 The Challenge is to Persuade
I believe there are parts of our society that have become fractured and divided somewhat beyond
repair and I think that there is an extent to which doing what is needed takes precedent over gaining
the consent to do it. This is what I mean by the challenge is to persuade, I really feel that those people
who have been manipulated into working against their best interest simply need to be persuaded to a
more progressive viewpoint. And I think they need to be persuaded by seeing the benefits of collective
progressive, work, philosophy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can also define the skill as your ability to change the actions or behaviors of other people, or to
encourage the actions and behaviors of others.
In a business setting this would be a manager s ability to get his employees to do their work more
efficiently; in a relationship this would be the influence to gain compromise from your partner,
siblings or children.
In the public this would be your ability to negotiate with strangers and foreigners, to get out of bad
situations or simply to negotiate better positions for yourself.
How the skill could be useful in business
In the work environment you do not always have the decision making autonomy that you need to
make your ideas a priority so the ability to persuade others to endorse or advocate for your ideas is a
valuable skill. When you re working with others, if you ever take on too much work it would be great
to be able to persuade your coworkers to assist you. You may even need to persuade your supervisors
or shareholders to give you more time instead of putting you under more pressure.
If you are responsible for training customer facing employees in your organization not only do you
have to be able to persuade them you need to be able to teach them persuasion in how to work with
your organization s customers. You may also need to persuade coworkers and employees to get them
more motivated and focused on their work.
If you want to grow in your organization you will find yourself constantly persuading the

Argumentative Essay On Flat Tax
The current tax code for the United States is almost 74,000 pages long. Or to put that into a different
light: About 116 copies of Herman Melville s Moby Dick. It is small wonder that a few of the
announced candidates for President of the United States, have again begun to kick the tires on the
topic of a Flat Tax. But is a flat tax actually a solution to our country s growing tax complexity? What
are the potential economic effects of a flat tax (both positive and negative)? Finally, is a flat tax even a
viable solution? In short, will it work? As a concept, a flat tax is spectacular. Simplicity at its finest. As
a fiscal policy, I believe that same simplicity must be examined and inspected closely.
The federal tax code has a level of complexity so great, that reforming it should be the one thing
Republicans and Democrats can agree on. Instead, proposal after proposal calling for reform die in
Congress. And there have been a lot of proposals. Arlen Specter (D PA) put some form of a flat tax/tax
reform proposal into Congress s hands every year from 1995 2010. This is because, for the most part,
the fight for reform always comes down to a two sided debate. One side wants to keep the current
complex structure and the other sees no other alternative than blowing this current structure up and
moving to a flat rate system. All of this brings me to the arguments for/against the flat rate tax system.
Underreporting (whether intentional or unintentional) and tax

Film As Art And Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue Is The Warmest...
Within my Film Theory essay, the two theories which I will be exploring in depth is Rudolf Arnheim s
essay Film as art and Laura Mulvey s Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema . These two different
theories will be applied in relation to Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013).
Introduction:
In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this
introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. The main
intention that I will explore within my essay is how Mulvey and Arnheim s theories relate in a
contemporary context. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my case
study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often
considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and
audience.
Body of paragraphs:
An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw
similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital within
my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the consideration of the
historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. A thirty two year old
British woman, Laura Mulvey writing in the mid 1970 s a peak point for the movement of second
wave feminism. In contrast with German born Rudolf Arnheim, writing in the early 1930 s in the wake
of sounds introduction to cinema.
The two theories, although from vastly different backgrounds, addressing vastly different issues, align
in consideration of the film I have chosen in my case study Blue is the Warmest Colour. Blue is the
Warmest Colour has been accused by feminists as being a film marketed to women and lesbians made
by men objectifying the women and actresses on screen through the male gaze rather than the female
gaze. The film has also garnered controversy through its sexually explicit scenes. In one scene in
particular, there is a 10 minute sex scene between the protagonist Adele and Emma whereby the two
straight actresses simulated lesbian sex. The actresses since accused the director

Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream
Hermia s speech in Act 2, Scene 2, of Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, contains an
abundance of dream imagery. She has awoken from a terrible dream after falling asleep in the forest
with Lysander. They were lost and tired so they decided to rest. Lysander wanted to sleep beside her
but, she refused since they are not yet married and while they slept Puck applied a love potion on
Lysander s eyes thinking he was Demetrius. Lysander wakes and is repulsed by the sight of Hermia
and never wants to see her again because he is now in love with Helena. Hermia awakes from her
terrible dream and retells it thinking that Lysander is nearby listening. Then she realizes that he is not
there and she does not see him anywhere. Hermia expresses the sentiment that she will find Lysander
or she will surely die. She stated, Help me, Lysander, help me! do thy best To pluck this crawling
serpent from my breast! Ay me, for pity! what a dream was here! Lysander, look how I do quake with
fear: Methought a serpent eat my heart away, And you sat smiling at his cruel pray. Lysander! what,
removed? Lysander! lord! What, out of hearing? gone? no sound, no word? Alack, where are you

Roman Architecture And Its Impact On Society
Introduction Roman architecture is a thing of the past; however, it still has a large impact upon society
today. Roman buildings are what our buildings were derived from, a lot of the art we think of when we
see a building was once thought of by the romans, was once built by the romans, and some of these
buildings are still standing today, not many, but a few. Now, roman architecture is significant because
of how it affected the growth of our architecture, how it evolved changed how we evolved. This will
show how roman architecture began as a thing of functionality and grew to a thing of beauty. Roman
period Roman architecture was originally founded by the Greeks, and was, in reality, a continuation of
Greek architecture. Some say the Romans brought architecture to a new level, I say that the romans
just enhanced what was already there. The Romans adopted new techniques, used new materials, and
combined existing techniques/materials with creative designs to create new architectural structures. A
few examples of these new structures are; the basilica, triumphal arch, aqueduct, amphitheater,
granary building, and residential housing. Many of these additions to architecture were spurred by
Rome s need to grow. The reason that these buildings grew so large and became so wide spread was
because they were funded by a state apparatus, causing these constructions to survive until the present
day. Roman architects continued to follow the guidelines established

Japanese Furniture and Interior Design and Shiro Kuramata
Shiro Kuramata (1934 91) was a Japanese designer best known for his furniture and interior design,
which gave the modern culture a creative voice. Many will identify with the chair he designed for the
Vitra Design Museum in 1987 titled, How High the Moon (fig 1). The piece was inspired by an old
jazz song and is part of the permanent collection at New York s Museum of Modern Art. It is designed
as a spacious armchair with woven threads of expanded metal; the piece weighs little more than a leaf,
and can withstand robust use . His other works include entire storefronts designed for his friend Issey
Miyake, for whom Kuramata created over 100 retail interiors . One of these works is Bergdorf

In addition, the majority of the paper will focus on the symbolism, form, and aesthetic of Miss
Blanche and other works by Kuramata that force the attention of the viewer to be on a new identity for
an object previously deemed only a chair. Shiro Kuramta was born Yoshiji Sugiura to parents Sei and
Yoshiji on November 29, 1934, in Tokyo, Japan. As is sometimes the tradition in Japan, Kuramata s
father kept the name of his first wife, Chiyo Kuramata, even after she passed and he remarried Sei. At
the time of his birth his parents were living in the staff housing at the Research Institute of Physic and
Chemistry where his father worked . He was the youngest of three girls and four boys, living in a very
disciplined household, and began his education when he was seven years old. Tokyo at this time was
undergoing a change that would allow it to catch up with the First World, and taking steps to become
self sufficient in its development of industries; educating engineers, scientists, architects, and
designers. This interest in the culture of the Western world and the technological advancements all
lead to a policy of modernization and fast pace advancement in which Kuramata was born into.
Homes were simplistic and there was an appreciation for empty space, another facet that can be seen
in Kuramata s work . The bombing of Pearl Harbor marked Japan s entry into World War II, and

About 5 10% of the female population is affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The cause
is unknown, but it is considered to be the most common endocrine disorder in women. Genetics and
insulin resistance are believed to play a significant role. One of the first symptoms is an irregular

Citizen Journalism Essay
Citizen journalism is defined as any news content, such as articles, videos etc. created by amateurs.
Traditional and citizen journalism are often contrasted to each other, however it is important to note
the similarities alongside the differences. Because of the growing popularity of citizen journalism due
to new technologies such as social media websites, it is essential to weigh the risks and opportunities
to truly see how citizen journalism is affecting the world. It is vital to assess citizen journalism and its
benefits of collaboration and pluralising voices, alongside the risks of inauthenticity, bias and causing
an erosion in the quality of news, in order to fully understand its impacts.
The pluralisation of voices that citizen journalism offers is considered one of the many benefits.
According to Melissa Wall (2015) this allows for new and important opinions and perspectives on
multiple events. For example, in rural India poor internet rates and a language barrier made it nearly
impossible for the majority of citizens to listen to the professional media. In order to expose more
citizens in India to local events, Shubhranshu Choudhary founded CGNet, which developed into a
mobile phone service, allowing for everyday citizens to report in on and listen to local events in their
native language. This leads to more, albeit unprofessional, perspectives on events from residents
(Chadha Steiner, 2015). The internet has been credited with having altered relationships with

The Great Ancestry Of The Crown Of Camelot
The old scholar practically beamed as he unrolled the next scroll. Let it be known, the great ancestry
of the crown of Camelot.
Geoffrey began to read off lineage that most nobles in Camelot knew by heart, until he came to the
one that Merlin both anticipated and feared. The warlock was trembling, as he awaited the signal from
the dais. His hand gripped the dragon bone hilt of Carnwenhau, drawing deep on the strength within
himself. He silently asked that his grandfather, who once wore the dagger, to be with him.

Merlin heard his mother s gasp resound across the near silent room. He grinned, wondering what she
was going to think of the next part.
This has been corroborated by His Royal Majesty, King Lot of Lothian and the High Druid Iseldir.
Lord Balinor, joined to Hunith of Ealdor, in turn begat one son.
Merlin took a deep breath and stepped partially out of the shadows, standing near the entrance to the
Great Hall. The Great Marriage Rite to validify Balinor s heritage was a bit of a stretch. Although
recognized as a joining among the druidic population and others who still revered the Old Religion, it

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that is often characterized by the general public as a mood swing
disorder. In reality bipolar disorder is more severe than just a mood swings, especially in children.
Bipolar disorder comes with two forms, type I and type II. Both forms of bipolar disorder are severe
and both types should receive treatment. For the purpose of this research bipolar type I will be the
focus. More specifically this research will be focusing on bipolar type I in children and youth. Bipolar
type I is described by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM 5) as characterized by multiple
episodes of mania that last at least a week or by episodes of mania that hospitalization is needed

Children with constant temper tantrums may or may not have bipolar disorder. In order for a diagnosis
of bipolar disorder a child must still fall under than DSM 5 criteria. Bipolar type I is an issue in a child
s life because it can become hindering and detrimental to development and to their daily routine.
Although this diagnosis can cause major deficits in a child s life there are many treatments that are

Etiology. It is still unclear scientifically why bipolar disorder is caused but there are genetic and brain
structure implications for bipolar disorder (Adelman et al., 2012; Nolen Hoeksema, 2014). Pediatric
bipolar type I is found to have connections with decreased gray matter in the cortex areas as well as
increase volume in the basal ganglia (Adelman et al., 2012). Grey matter helps the brain processes due
to their storage of cell bodies and axons and the basal ganglia is connected with cognitive function,
daily routine and habitual functioning and voluntary motor control (Nolen Hoeksema, 2014;
Leibenluft, 2012).
Genetics may also play a large role in the presence of bipolar disorder in children. Genetics are often
more prevalent with direct relatives, parents or siblings (Nolen Hoeksema, 2014). In accordance with

Scores of consumers are discussing the two well known reading tablets called the Kindle Fire and the
Nook Tablet. Shoppers are trying to determine which e reader offers the best quality and features.
After conducting an objective study, considerable elements were accurately established in relation to
these products. The Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet have many similarities; however, they show
noticeable differences within the content, ease of use, battery life, and storage.

The Kindle Fire offers 8 GB of internal memory. After it is configured, the Kindle Fire is shown to
have 6GB for buyers to maneuver and stage manage as they desire. In addition, the Kindle Fire
provides a handy online tool labeled as Cloud Storage which allows unlimited storing capabilities to
Kindle and Amazon users. In contrast, the Nook Tablet advertises 32 GB of internal storage but after a
full review of the Nook Tablet, only a lone gigabyte is available for optimal use; the other 12 GB are
set aside for content which can only be purchased from Barnes and Nobles stores (Johnston, 2011).
However, the Nook Tablet gains some position for having an (empty) micro SD card slot available for
its users. After weighing up the difference between the storage within these gadgets (coming in their
original form) the Nook Tablet s storage appears to be somewhat deceptive (Moz, 2011).
In terms of deception the storage wasn t the only feature that misled buyers of the Nook Tablet and
Kindle Fire. After a careful examination of the battery function on either tablet, the battery life
duration for each e reader had to be determined by more than one factor. The Nook Tablet offers nine
full hours of battery use. The Kindle Fire advertises seven and a half hours of battery life when in
reality it provides no more than six full hours (Johnston, 2011). The Kindle Fire s battery lasts longer

My Love Of Math As A Career In Math
When I sit down to think about critical events in my K 12 experiences, my first thought goes to when I
changed schools. I switched from a private school, to a public school between my 3rd and 4th grade
years. Once I switched schools, I realized how much more advanced I was in mathematics as
compared to my peers. Because I am such a competitive person, I was immediately drawn to the
things that I was best at, because then I can win . Before I changed schools, I knew that I enjoyed
math, but this realization is really what cemented my love of math. So, for this reason, the majority of
my life, I ve known that I wanted to do something related to math. These feelings only intensified as I
got older and into classes like Algebra and Pre Calculus. For me, when I was faced with a math
problem, it was like a puzzle. I knew there was an answer and I had faith in myself that I could find
the answer if I kept trying hard enough. I enjoyed sitting down, and working on a problem, because it
was so rewarding and exciting when I figured out the answer. Despite knowing that I wanted to do
something math related for so long, I never had any idea what specific career within the mathematics
field that I wanted to pursue. Most of the mathematics careers that I looked into sounded really boring
to my early teens self. The only one that somewhat caught my attention was teaching. In addition to
that, my Geometry teacher, who I also had for Algebra II the next year, was an amazing teacher who

Snowy Evening, the history of the authors, and their similarities and differences. Dickinson was born

Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost wrote many poems about their emotions and the darkness that they
faced or in their childhood or adult life. Dickinson writes about darkness because she always stayed in
her house; she did not leave her house and she did not see the light of the sky in her life (Tredell). We
Grow Accustomed to the Dark, by Emily Dickinson, is about the darkness and hopelessness. This
poem has a deeper meaning about people who have to face all kinds of struggle or problems in their
life. The poet writes, When light is put away As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp (Dickinson We
Grow, 2 3). This means that sometimes it s tough to solve a problem, but there is always hope to solve
any kind of problem. All kinds of struggle can help one to learn about the struggle and also to get
experiences to solve these problems or struggles again in the future. Acquainted with the Night, by
Robert Frost, is about a person who is walking alone in the rain. He is approached by a cop
(watchman) and the speaker looks down and walks away from a cop. The author mentions, And
dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain (Frost Acquainted, 6). This quote means that speaker does not
make eye contact with the cop because he does not want to explain to the cop what he is doing outside
at the night time. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry
(Frost Acquainted, 7 8) this quote explains while the speaker is walking, he hears, someone crying in
one of the houses on the street. But not to call me back or say good bye (Frost Acquainted, 10) this
explains that the speaker does not want to see who is crying; however; he ignores that crying sound
and walks away from it. I have looked down the saddest city lane (Frost Acquainted, 4) this proves
that the speaker in the poem is very depressed. The speaker is lonely or maybe the speaker is

Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf
In recent times there has been a renewed interest in Virginia Woolf and her work, from the Broadway
play, Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to the Academy award nominated film The Hours starring
Nicole Kidman. This recent exposure, along with the fact that I have ancestors from England , has
sparked my interest in this twentieth century British novelist.
During the early part of the twentieth century, artists and writers saw the world in a new way. Famed
British novelist Virginia Woolf was very sensitive to this change, for she felt that human relationships
such as ones between a husband and wife of master and servant were shifting, due to all of the

She felt that his language captured processes of thought, perception, and most pivotally feeling. In her
own words, Woolf once exclaimed Oh, if I could write like that! And at the moment such is the
astonishing vibration and saturation and intensification that he procures. Scarcely anyone so stimulates
the nerves of language in me: it becomes an obsession (qtd. in King 310). Woolf began to realize that
she had made a breakthrough in her work while working on both The Common Reader and Mrs.
Dalloway . She also hoped that Proust s influence would be apparent.
It is through these techniques that Virginia Woolf illustrated the way in which she strived to capture
the sense of reality that the traditional standards of writing had prevented authors of the past from
accomplishing. Besides being influenced by such writers as Proust, Woolf was also linked to the Post
impressionist, who she found engrossing and zestful (Blackstone 12). At the first Post Impressionist
exhibition, which was organized by friend Roger Fry, Virginia saw an explosion of Victorian and
Edwardian conventions dealing with art, as well as human relationships (Dunn 146 47).
By dismissing traditional standards, Virginia Woolf created a masterpiece of reality through Mrs.
Dalloway and even she recognized her great achievement. Woolf was certain that in Mrs. Dalloway ,
she had at last uncovered her gold mine as a writer of fiction. The trick was to get all the gold out, that

The title of the movie watched is A Few Good Men and it was obtained at 123movies.gs. Its major
characters are Lt. Daniel Kaffee, Lt. Commander JoAnne Galloway, Colonel Nathan R. Jessep, and
Lance Corporal Harold Dawson. Five themes that the movie dramatically displayed were how plea
deals were done, the respect judges get, the responsibilities of a judge, the responsibilities of a defense
attorney, and it also showed very little of what a bailiff does in the courtroom. Over 90% of
convictions are from negotiated guilty pleas. They help avoid court and a lot of paperwork lawyers
may have to do which gives them more time to focus on cases that are bigger and more serious. In the
movie, Captain West stated to Lt. Commander Galloway, ...I m sure it ll boil down to a five minute

bargaining does not take place in a court room; it can take place at a restaurant, a game, the lawyers

playing baseball. Since many cases get plea deals many lawyers do not see the court room often. Forty
four plea bargains were done by Lt. Kaffee in nine months and he had not once seen the inside of a

problems can arise from it such as the defendants not wanting a deal, one defendant in the movie did

Importance Of Six Sigma
The goal of Six Sigma is to increase profits by eliminating variability, defects and waste that

Six Sigma can be understood/perceived at three levels:
Metric: 3.4 Defects Per Million Opportunities. DPMO allows you to take complexity of
product/process into account. Rule of thumb is to consider at least three opportunities for a physical

Debunking the Modern Family Myth
According to Stephanie Coontz in What We Really Miss About The 1950 s , the 1950 s were symbolic
in terms of the nuclear American family. The typical nuclear American family structure consisted of an
unemployed stay at home mom, working dad, a child or two, and a suburban home. In her article, she
refers to the 1950 s as being the optimal time period for family s where the ideology in television
shows such as Father Knows Best and Leave It To Beaver was not just a depiction of how life was

Today s culture seems to not be able to accept anything that is out of the norm. As a result, gay
marriage has been under constant backlash due to the idea that the true marriage and a real family is
constituted by the union of a male and a female. Although the model family was previously seen as the
union of a male and female back in the 1950 s, things change over time and with it news things are
formed. With gay couples increasingly coming out and demanding their rights, the definition of the
traditional family is being altered and along with it the disappearance of some American myths and

divorce rate is at the highest it s ever been, so how do we really define what a real and traditional
American family is and who should be able to get a say in who gets to marry or not.
With gay marriage becoming an increasingly popular discussion topic there exist constant feuding

Analysis Of Estrella In Under The Feet Of Jesus
The development of characters transpire as a result of significant events in their lives. Events such as
learning a new skill have the ability to transform a character s life. Estrella in Helena Maria
Viramontes novel Under the Feet of Jesus flourishes into an individual who once got upset over skills
she did not have and was upset at the process of learning, but now understands how vital education is.
Estrella was infuriated by her lack of understanding about the Perfecto s tools and the letters on the
chalkboard. She was especially agitated when the educators would not give her the answer right away
The selection of detail shows the connection between two things she overcame. The tone and
figurative language shows more detail about Estrella s transformation.
The connection between Estrella s animosity towards two skills she did not comprehend shows how
she evolves as a character. When first introduced to the tool, she was enraged by them because of her
lack of knowledge about them. She had opened the tool chest and all that jumbled steel inside the box,
the iron bars and things with handles, the funny shaped objects, seemed as confusing and foreign as
the alphabet she could not decipher (4 8). This shows that Estrella could not understand both the tools
as well as the alphabet. Luckily, the tools were similar in Estrella s mind. The script A s had the
curlicue of a pry bar, a hammerhead split like a V. The small i s resembled nails (17 19). This

Research Paper On The Tempest
Written in England, around 1610 1611, William Shakespeare created the romance play titled The
Tempest. This piece of literature is set entirely on an unnamed island in the Mediterranean Sea during
the Renaissance time period; this type of setting is far from the royal courts and civic concerns which
typically dominate the Shakespearean corpus (Louden 201). In the beginning, the main character
Prospero, the duke of Milan, and his infant daughter were exiled from Milan, put on a ship, and left to
fend for themselves in the dangerous waters of the sea. It was by the power and greediness of Alonso,
the king of Naples, and Prospero s usurping brother, Antonio, that he was banished. Soon, Prospero
and his daughter, Miranda, land on this unnamed

Japan s National Security Strategy
PMESII PT OVERVIEW OF JAPAN SGT RICART, GLADE SUBMITTED TO Mrs. Young Hee
Capelo and Mrs. Ruth Suh 11 JULY 2016 Introduction The United States (US) is constantly looking
for ways to improve relations with other countries and to follow their National Security Strategy
(NSS). To aid the US in analyzing different countries, the PMESII PT is used as a formula to keep
everyone on the same page. The PMESII PT contains eight different variables which help the United
States analyze how different countries can affect their National Security Strategy. These variables
include: political, military, economic, social, information, infrastructure, physical terrain, and time.
These variables can be used to help better understand the situation and most important aspects of any
country. Japan is a major country that can have a large impact on US relations and build on the current
NSS. Throughout this paper, the PMESII PT variables are examined to help educate and show how
Japan can affect the United States NSS. After reading this paper, one can gain knowledge on how
Japan can have a large influence on US interests in the Pacific/ Asian Command (PACOM) region.
Political The political system in Japan is a Constitutional Monarchy led by Prime Minister Shinzo
Abe, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Japan also has an Emperor and Empress;
however, they are only a symbol of the state and hold no powers related to the government. Prime
Minister Abe was elected in

A Brief Note On The European Union s Ems Standards Essay
According to Cheremisinoff and Haddadin (2006), EMS is a system that being planned and implement
by organizations to manage the way to interact with the natural environment. EMS did not intend to
focus on the emission or effluent waste, but its focus on the production processes and general
management system that cause wastes and pollution.
EMSs have three basic standards which included British Standard 7750 (BS 7750), European s Eco
Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and ISO 14000 whereby BS 7750 is referred as the first
EMS that published in 1992, finalized in 1996 and as the basis for the other two standards
(Cheremisinoff Haddadin, 2006). EMAS is the European Union s EMS standard that first introduced
in July 1993 with the objective of promote a harmonious and balanced of develop economic activities
by having the commitment from organization and continuously improve their environmental
performance (European Commision, March 4, 2015). Lastly, ISO 14000 was published around 1996
and formed up the standard that focus on environmental management established by International
Standards Organizations after the success of developing quality management ISO 9000.
Deming cycle or Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) cycle was the base model for EMS in promoting the
concept of continuous improvement. An environmental policy will be formulated to declare a
company s basic environment value and establishes guidelines that comply with environmental law
and regulations during the plan stage.

Atrial Fibrillation
The heart is a complex yet delicate organ that operates the body on a regular basis. Without the heart
the circulation system within the body would cease to exist; therefore, we would cease to exist. As
with everything that is complex and works around the clock there are certain issues that can arise for
example, atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is the result of an irregular or fast heartbeat this will often
cause an inadequate circulation throughout the rest of the body. The atrium of the heart will not sync
up to the ventricles causing an irregular or fast heartbeat.
The episodes of atrial fibrillation can come and go or remain permanently and cannot usually be
corrected without surgical intervention. This could be caused by hypertension, ... Show more content

His work led to the evolution of radiofrequency energy catheters, which use radiofrequency energy to
heat the catheter tip and perform a more precise ablation than what was possible with direct current
ablation. (UCSF.(2012). When cardiac ablation is performed the surgeon is targeting the diseased
conductive tissue once this is done, this will assist in correcting atrial fibrillation within the heart.
These surgeries can be either minimally invasive or require an open surgical approach. Cardiac
ablation is achieved through a cardiac catheter this delivers radiofrequency energy or cryoenergy to
the defective area this is considered to be a minimally invasive approach. The electrophysiologist will
insert a catheter into the femoral vein/artery and threads it to the right or left atrium and ventricle.
They will then test different areas of the heart to try and reproduce dysrhythmia upon doing this they
will then ablate the area of the heart where the disturbance takes place. Another alternative would be
an open surgery known as a sternotomy approach this is where a midline incision is made in the
sternum of the chest. Cannulation of the superior and inferior vena cava will then take place for a
cardiopulmonary bypass. The surgeon will occlude the ascending aorta and infuse cardioplegic
solution into the coronary arteries. Once this is done a right and left atriotomy is performed and the
targets are ablated. The atriotomies are closed, the aorta is unclamped, cardiopulmonary bypass is
stopped, cannulas are removed, chest tubes will be inserted at this time and the surgical wound is
closed. Upon completion of the surgery the patient is taken to the PACU and monitored for heart
rhythm issues as well as, bleeding, infection, or any other complications from the procedure. ( Fuller,

Beethoven Beethoven Homogeneity
Compression, homogeneity (1809 10) Sonata in F Sharp Major, op. 78 (1809) is challenging
performers with the fragmented short motivic ideas which is eventually the characteristic of
Beethoven s last sonatas. One other interesting factor making this sonata unique is its intro measures.
It is only four measure long, but it is not appropriate to be called introduction because of its
completeness which never happened in the eighteenth century introduction. Rather it is better to be
considered as a (fragment of an) independent movement despite of the short length. Sonata in G
Major, op.79 (1809) is a relatively easy with full of humor and romantic character. Sonata in E flat
Major, op. 81a (1809 10) is the only program sonata by Beethoven for the reason he gave titles to each
movement.
Summation, transcendence (1814 27) The final years, especially from 1812 to 1817, were difficult for
Beethoven. He had the lawsuit over his nephew s custody and suffered from deafness and Immortal
Beloved. Especially the letter of Immortal Beloved and an attempt to starve himself are the biggest
event between 1809 to 1814 when he restrained himself from writing a piano sonata. E minor op. 90 is
important for its role as a turning point for Beethoven. This sonata is one that Beethoven wrote for the
first time after the five year of struggling, and form this point, his composition took completely new
direction. Fugue and variations, are the new musical types Beethoven employed for his late

Essay about Sweatshops
Written over 50 years ago, was a declaration made, promising equality and fair treatment for the
working, which unfortunately turned out to be a false promise for some. The people I speak of, are our
fellow human beings working in slave like conditions called sweatshops. Sweatshops have always
been prevalent in society, this can be shown by looking at the history of sweatshops. Presently
organizations are failing in there strive to end sweatshops, companies are failing to abide by the moral
code (apparel industry code), there is an ever growing gap between rich and poor, and consumers are
continuing to buy the companies products and remain unaware.
Sweatshop is a term for makeshift factories where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists against sweatshops focus more on women in sweatshops, than child labor. UNITE is
helping workers form unions to get the fair labor conditions they deserve. Making their own union,
UNITE already has over 500 members who are fighting for better wages, decent conditions and other
rights. They have rallied for things like The New York City Council passes anti sweatshop legislation
for City uniforms. (Ref 1). They have training programs and give many good ideas towards making a
statement, and things we as people can do to help. The United Students Against Sweatshops (or
USAS), is an international student movement that involves individual students from campuses all over
America and Canada fighting for sweatshop free labor conditions and workers rights. The University
of Toronto has it s own version of this, and offers ideas on how you can start your own group (refer to
appendix A). NO Sweat offers the most out of all these organizations. They have reports on garment
enforcement going back to 1995. Although it mainly focuses on sweatshop conditions for American
workers, it s making the most difference, probably because they are so close to home. Although there
have been many successes for these groups, all these efforts and many more, have still not put a stop
to the issue of sweatshops.
In sweatshops, workers work seven days a

How Asthma Fit Into The Healthy People 2020
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway that impacts a person s and their family s
quality of life. In people with asthma, their airway becomes constricted with swelling and excessive
mucous. This constriction or narrowing of the airway makes it difficult for the person with asthma to
breath (Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2009). If asthma is left uncontrolled, it leads to
further wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, tiredness, and stress. (Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, 2009).
How does asthma fit into the Healthy People 2020? As it is stated in Health People 2020, the main
goal is to, Promote respiratory health through better prevention, detection, treatment, and education
efforts. Under this goal, Healthy People list several objectives such as, reducing asthma death,
hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) visits, activity limitations, and miss school and work
days; in addition, increasing education and prevention program (Healthy People 2020, 2014).
Description of the Problem: Community Demographics Asthma is a serious problem nationwide. It is
also a significant problem in the state of Massachusetts, especially in communities in Boston.
However, according to Harvard School of Public Health and NIEHS Center for Environmental Health,
Roxbury and North Dorchester are highly noticeable hotspots (Backus, Terrell, Wool, Straubel, 2012,
p. 23). For the purpose of this paper, the main focus will be on asthma cases in

  • 2. Unexpectedly Important Characters in House of the Spirits... Isabel Allende in House of the Spirits portrayed many seemingly minor characters that ended up having a greater role than expected. One of the unexpected characters was Alba. Despite the fact that Alba was not born until chapter nine, she played a significant role in the plot of the story and character dynamics of the Trueba family and other strong men and women. This then lead to the fact that Allende built up powerful and outspoken personalities to ultimately create one strong character, Alba, who finished the novel with a shocking and hopeful ending. Alba was brought into the world as a beautiful baby, with good astrological fortune. In her first hours, she already had traits that resembled her to two strong minded characters, Rosa ... Little Alba, who worked hard for her uncle s appreciation participated and cooperated through all his activities. While held captive by Esteban Garcia and the Security Police this ability helped her withstand the suffering. This knowledge of the human body surprised Esteban Garcia when [he] took her hand and placed it on his stiffened sex [and she replied] [y]our penis (Page 286). Jaime also taught Alba to do as she pleased, and not what pleased others. This then helped her remain loyal to what she thought was right during all that she overcame. • 3. Themes InThe Rememberer And Jealous Husband Return In Form... Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution. She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her, she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into animals. They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander. Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot. Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of the tree, so he will not change forms. • 5. Odyssey Vs Penelopiad Essay When studying the texts of Homer s The Odyssey and Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad , varying perspectives will arise. In the male dominated era of Greece, men were regarded as valiant warriors, heroes of national importance, and overall superior beings while women were perceived as the subordinate gender, often expected to remain in the household to bear and raise children. Since these concepts are present in both texts, it is apparent that gender roles are the focal point of discussion in Homer s and Atwood s literary works. With a more contemporary approach, the role of women can be reassessed as something of great importance and power (Weinbaum 3). The goddesses depicted in The Odyssey , Athena and Calypso, each represent an important theme of a woman s intelligence and power to form bonds and the role in Odysseus homecoming, whether it is to provide guidance or cause difficulty. Similarly in The Penelopiad , the maids residing in Odysseus household use their femininity to build relationships with the suitors and utilize their power to obtain valuable information for Odysseus wife Penelope. In addition, Penelope maintains her relationship with her husband and remains faithful to assure a suitable homecoming for Odysseus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Last Winter Film Analysis ABSTRACT Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton, 2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or benefits of environmental change more creatively. This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions, impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths, consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was in 2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and shall discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological change message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered. • 8. The Conflict Between Waverly And Her Mother However, the conflict between Waverly and her mother is very realistic, due to the nature that many mothers and daughters have different views which causes disagreements. The people of Chinese descent have their Chinese heritage, but struggle to keep true to their traditions while living around American culture. The major conflict in the story, the clash of different cultures, leads to the weakening of the relationship between the two characters. For example, when Waverly reenters the apartment after running away, she sees the remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to bones swimming upstream in vain escape (Tan 508). Waverly sees herself as the fish, stripped clean by her mother s power, unable to break free. Through the major conflict, the characters struggle to keep their relationship healthy and loving. Tan explains the feelings of Waverly through an important symbolic imaginary chess game as she writes, My white pieces screamed as they scurried and fell off the board one by one. As her men drew closer to my edge, I felt myself growing light (508). This shows how Waverly feels about the relationship with her mother and how she is losing the battle. The conflicts are important, especially to the theme, for the conflicts shows where the lack of understanding comes from and how it can be resolved. Amy Tan uses symbolism to show the cultures and how this interacts with the conflict of the story. One example is she used the game of chess as more than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the public this would be your ability to negotiate with strangers and foreigners, to get out of bad situations or simply to negotiate better positions for yourself. • 10. Argumentative Essay On Flat Tax The current tax code for the United States is almost 74,000 pages long. Or to put that into a different light: About 116 copies of Herman Melville s Moby Dick. It is small wonder that a few of the announced candidates for President of the United States, have again begun to kick the tires on the topic of a Flat Tax. But is a flat tax actually a solution to our country s growing tax complexity? What are the potential economic effects of a flat tax (both positive and negative)? Finally, is a flat tax even a viable solution? In short, will it work? As a concept, a flat tax is spectacular. Simplicity at its finest. As a fiscal policy, I believe that same simplicity must be examined and inspected closely. The federal tax code has a level of complexity so great, that reforming it should be the one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on. Instead, proposal after proposal calling for reform die in Congress. And there have been a lot of proposals. Arlen Specter (D PA) put some form of a flat tax/tax reform proposal into Congress s hands every year from 1995 2010. This is because, for the most part, the fight for reform always comes down to a two sided debate. One side wants to keep the current complex structure and the other sees no other alternative than blowing this current structure up and moving to a flat rate system. All of this brings me to the arguments for/against the flat rate tax system. Underreporting (whether intentional or unintentional) and tax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within my Film Theory essay, the two theories which I will be exploring in depth is Rudolf Arnheim s essay Film as art and Laura Mulvey s Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema . These two different theories will be applied in relation to Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013). Introduction: In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. The main intention that I will explore within my essay is how Mulvey and Arnheim s theories relate in a contemporary context. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my case study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and audience. Body of paragraphs: An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital within my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the consideration of the historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. A thirty two year old British woman, Laura Mulvey writing in the mid 1970 s a peak point for the movement of second wave feminism. In contrast with German born Rudolf Arnheim, writing in the early 1930 s in the wake of sounds introduction to cinema. The two theories, although from vastly different backgrounds, addressing vastly different issues, align in consideration of the film I have chosen in my case study Blue is the Warmest Colour. Blue is the Warmest Colour has been accused by feminists as being a film marketed to women and lesbians made by men objectifying the women and actresses on screen through the male gaze rather than the female gaze. The film has also garnered controversy through its sexually explicit scenes. Lysander wanted to sleep beside her but, she refused since they are not yet married and while they slept Puck applied a love potion on Lysander s eyes thinking he was Demetrius. Lysander wakes and is repulsed by the sight of Hermia and never wants to see her again because he is now in love with Helena. Hermia awakes from her terrible dream and retells it thinking that Lysander is nearby listening. Then she realizes that he is not there and she does not see him anywhere. Hermia expresses the sentiment that she will find Lysander or she will surely die. She stated, Help me, Lysander, help me! do thy best To pluck this crawling serpent from my breast! Ay me, for pity! what a dream was here! Lysander, look how I do quake with fear: Methought a serpent eat my heart away, And you sat smiling at his cruel pray. Lysander! what, removed? Lysander! lord! Roman buildings are what our buildings were derived from, a lot of the art we think of when we see a building was once thought of by the romans, was once built by the romans, and some of these buildings are still standing today, not many, but a few. Now, roman architecture is significant because of how it affected the growth of our architecture, how it evolved changed how we evolved. This will show how roman architecture began as a thing of functionality and grew to a thing of beauty. Roman period Roman architecture was originally founded by the Greeks, and was, in reality, a continuation of Greek architecture. Some say the Romans brought architecture to a new level, I say that the romans just enhanced what was already there. The Romans adopted new techniques, used new materials, and combined existing techniques/materials with creative designs to create new architectural structures. A few examples of these new structures are; the basilica, triumphal arch, aqueduct, amphitheater, granary building, and residential housing. Many of these additions to architecture were spurred by Rome s need to grow. The reason that these buildings grew so large and became so wide spread was because they were funded by a state apparatus, causing these constructions to survive until the present day. Roman architects continued to follow the guidelines established ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Traditional and citizen journalism are often contrasted to each other, however it is important to note the similarities alongside the differences. Because of the growing popularity of citizen journalism due to new technologies such as social media websites, it is essential to weigh the risks and opportunities to truly see how citizen journalism is affecting the world. It is vital to assess citizen journalism and its benefits of collaboration and pluralising voices, alongside the risks of inauthenticity, bias and causing an erosion in the quality of news, in order to fully understand its impacts. The pluralisation of voices that citizen journalism offers is considered one of the many benefits. According to Melissa Wall (2015) this allows for new and important opinions and perspectives on multiple events. For example, in rural India poor internet rates and a language barrier made it nearly impossible for the majority of citizens to listen to the professional media. In order to expose more citizens in India to local events, Shubhranshu Choudhary founded CGNet, which developed into a mobile phone service, allowing for everyday citizens to report in on and listen to local events in their native language. If I complete my strip and take a break before moving on to the next section, the whip will come slashing. If my legs give out and can no longer support my weight, the whip will come slashing. The thirteenth amendment brought forth the idea that slavery would be abolished. However, the congressmen left a loophole in the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but under another name. The thirteenth amendment was the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the world. However, soon after this amendment was added to the constitution unjust laws started to pop up within the states, When slavery was legally abolished. • 30. My Love Of Math As A Career In Math When I sit down to think about critical events in my K 12 experiences, my first thought goes to when I changed schools. I switched from a private school, to a public school between my 3rd and 4th grade years. Once I switched schools, I realized how much more advanced I was in mathematics as compared to my peers. Because I am such a competitive person, I was immediately drawn to the things that I was best at, because then I can win . Before I changed schools, I knew that I enjoyed math, but this realization is really what cemented my love of math. So, for this reason, the majority of my life, I ve known that I wanted to do something related to math. These feelings only intensified as I got older and into classes like Algebra and Pre Calculus. For me, when I was faced with a math problem, it was like a puzzle. I knew there was an answer and I had faith in myself that I could find the answer if I kept trying hard enough. I enjoyed sitting down, and working on a problem, because it was so rewarding and exciting when I figured out the answer. Despite knowing that I wanted to do something math related for so long, I never had any idea what specific career within the mathematics field that I wanted to pursue. Dickinson writes about darkness because she always stayed in her house; she did not leave her house and she did not see the light of the sky in her life (Tredell). We Grow Accustomed to the Dark, by Emily Dickinson, is about the darkness and hopelessness. This poem has a deeper meaning about people who have to face all kinds of struggle or problems in their life. The poet writes, When light is put away As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp (Dickinson We Grow, 2 3). This means that sometimes it s tough to solve a problem, but there is always hope to solve any kind of problem. All kinds of struggle can help one to learn about the struggle and also to get experiences to solve these problems or struggles again in the future. Acquainted with the Night, by Robert Frost, is about a person who is walking alone in the rain. He is approached by a cop (watchman) and the speaker looks down and walks away from a cop. The author mentions, And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain (Frost Acquainted, 6). This quote means that speaker does not make eye contact with the cop because he does not want to explain to the cop what he is doing outside at the night time. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry (Frost Acquainted, 7 8) this quote explains while the speaker is walking, he hears, someone crying in one of the houses on the street. During the early part of the twentieth century, artists and writers saw the world in a new way. Scarcely anyone so stimulates the nerves of language in me: it becomes an obsession (qtd. in King 310). Woolf began to realize that she had made a breakthrough in her work while working on both The Common Reader and Mrs. Dalloway . She also hoped that Proust s influence would be apparent. It is through these techniques that Virginia Woolf illustrated the way in which she strived to capture the sense of reality that the traditional standards of writing had prevented authors of the past from accomplishing. Besides being influenced by such writers as Proust, Woolf was also linked to the Post impressionist, who she found engrossing and zestful (Blackstone 12). At the first Post Impressionist exhibition, which was organized by friend Roger Fry, Virginia saw an explosion of Victorian and Edwardian conventions dealing with art, as well as human relationships (Dunn 146 47). By dismissing traditional standards, Virginia Woolf created a masterpiece of reality through Mrs. Dalloway and even she recognized her great achievement. One other interesting factor making this sonata unique is its intro measures. It is only four measure long, but it is not appropriate to be called introduction because of its completeness which never happened in the eighteenth century introduction. Rather it is better to be considered as a (fragment of an) independent movement despite of the short length. Sonata in G Major, op.79 (1809) is a relatively easy with full of humor and romantic character.
