Faro is the southernmost city in mainland Portugal, and also the capital of Aerjiawei region
and Faro district, with a population of 64,560 inhabitants in 2011.

Baroque Carmo Church (Igreja do Carmo) in Faro is one of the town's attractive churches
with lovely 18th century gilded wood carvings and stain-glass windows inside and with a
pleasant white-washed exterior.

The main attraction of the church for many visitors is its macabre Bones Chapel (Capela
dos Ossos), situated in a walled small garden, just behind the main church building.

The bones and skulls that can be seen are those of over 1200 Carmelite monks that were
exhumed from the nearby church cemetery when the ossuary was built in 1816. The
purpose of such Chapels of Bones is to emphasize the brevity of human existence
and the need to live a good life. A more practical purpose may have been to free up
space in the cemeteries!

43. Cape Roca 羅卡海岬
Cape Roca (Cabo da Roca) is a cape which forms the westernmost extent of
mainland Portugal and continental. The cape is located within the Sintra-Cascais
Natural Park, 42 kilometres west of the city of Lisbon and in the southwest of Sintra.
A location (38°47′N 9°30′W) is inscribed on a stone plaque, located on a monument
at the site.
羅卡海岬是葡萄牙本土和歐洲大陸最西端的一個海岬。海岬位於內辛特拉-卡斯卡伊
斯自然公園內，位於里斯本以西 42 公里，辛特拉 西南方。在當地紀念碑的牌子上刻

Cape Roca lighthouse was the first purpose built light house in Portugal and was
completed in 1772 but its present form originates from 1842.
The lighthouse stands 150m above the ocean and this height means that the 1,000
watt light can be seen 46km away.
羅卡海岬燈塔是葡萄牙最早專門修建的燈塔，於 1772 年完成，但目前的形式是 1842

The inscription on the side of the monument is a quote from the famous Portuguese
poet Camoes (1524–1580) who described the area as "Where the land ends and
the sea begins".
