This document summarizes a survey of 400 households in Western Kenya that analyzed farming systems using cluster analysis. Variables like land size, livestock ownership, assets, income, crop/livestock productivity, market participation, and nutrition were used. Five main clusters of households were identified based on these variables related to income/wealth, productivity/commercialization, and nutrition. The clusters showed differences in these factors like the poorest households having the lowest nutrition and productivity. While clusters were not distinctly separated geographically, the analysis provides insights into targeting populations for development based on these typology dimensions.
