Factors affecting
the learning process
• Learner’s feel difficulty in learning may be due to
many factors within the learner themselves.
• It is necessary to solve the problems related to
improve our efforts of teaching and training the
learners to improve their competencies.
• Psychology reveals that some of the important
factors which may affect the learning process

2. Observation and Learning
3. Insight and Learning
4. Attention and Learning
5. Interest and Learning
6. Motivation and Learning
7. Fatigue and Learning
8. Memory and Learning
1. Maturation and Learning
• Learning depends on mental age.
• Maturation means mental ability or
maturity.
2. Observation and learning
• The ability for observation is a pre-requisite for good
perception and consequently for learning.
• Learning process is affected by observation.
• Trainees learn and acquire habits by observation.
3. Insight and learning
• Insight plays an important part in learning.
• Insight is defines as a sudden flash of
thought or solution in mind that helps
one to face a problem solving situation.
4. Attention and learning
• Attention plays an important role in the education
and training process.
• Perception and observation is essential in learning.
• But without attention, one cannot observe or
perceive.

• Attention is not a power of the mind.
• It is not a static.
• It fluctuates from one object to another, quickly.
• Trainees are distracted because of,
a. ILL health
b. External disturbances
c. Bad instructions
d. Lack of motivation
e. Monotony of activity (same actions, lacking in
variety)

• Interest is an inner disposition or tendency of
readiness to perceive (observe).
• Creating interest in learning is a principal function of
the instructor.

• Therefore in lesson plan there is a special provision
for motivating and creating interest in the trainee.
• Interest is dependent largely on the need.
6. Motivation of learning
• Class or shop floor learning is directly
proportional to motivation.
• Motivation leads to attain objectives and
goals.
7. Fatigue and learning
• Every physical activity involves consumption
of energy.
• Output is proportional to input.
• Human efficiency is the ratio between
achievement and energy spent.

• Cause of fatigue are loss of energy, loss of
oxygen.
Steps to avoid fatiguability:
• Periodical rest
• Energy consuming habits.
• Proper conditions and arrangement at workplace.
• Favourable attitude towards work.

• Memory means mental impression or
retention, recall, recognition and
association of previous learning.
