Facebook has more overall users but LinkedIn is better for reaching executives. Both platforms allow users to create personal profiles for free and allow companies to make career pages to engage talent. Key differences are that Facebook is better for finding Generation Y candidates and has no cost to start, while LinkedIn's user base is more senior. Both platforms can be used for active and passive recruiting through targeted advertising.
This presentation details the value of LinkedIn as a social networking tool and draws parallels between Facebook and email marketing for those getting started with Facebook. Social Media Best Practices and Trends for Building Event BuzzErica Campbell Byrum
Social Media Best Practices and Trends for Building Event Buzz was presented by Erica Campbell, Director of Social Media for Dominion Homes Media at the NAAEI Affiliate Education Conference in Colorado Springs on August 23, 2012.
An event — be it a networking gathering, an online program, fundraiser, or class — is by nature a social affair. People attend to connect, interact, and share with their peers. People join social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest to connect, interact, and share with their peers. Using social media channels to market events and programs is a great strategy for getting attention and building excitement at low-cost to promote your events to a larger audience and build fans.
Erica Campbell discussed how to leverage social media and become part of the consumer dialogue. This session addressed the latest strategic insights in creating a center of excellence, social media best practices, improving consumer engagement, reputation management and other emerging opportunities.
In this session, attendees learned how to accelerate and increase event registration; create more customers for less marketing spend; and automate and streamline attendee and exhibitor data and content collection.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Editor's Notes
Thanks for joining. We’ll get started in just a few minutes as we wait for a couple more people to join.Reminder to record!!!!
Hi, and thanks for joining us today. I’m Jennifer Picard, the Product Marketing Director here at Identified, and I’m joined by Erik Kostelnik, our VP of Sales. Identified is Facebook's Professional Search Engine for Employers. We help connect companies with people while bringing ranking and relevance to the Facebook network. Today’s webinar will last approximately 30 minutes, with 15 minutes at the end for a Q&A session. Please feel free to ask questions throughout the webinar by typing them into the Q&A box to your right. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the similarities and differences to recruiting on Facebook versus recruiting on LinkedIn.
Facebook is the world’s leading “personal” social network while LinkedIn rules the roost amongst “professional” networks. However, both networks have changed drastically over the past year– Facebook had adopted a more business-friendly/ professional approach while LinkedIn is increasingly transforming to add a more personal touch. With the two networks becoming increasingly similar, we’re here today to discuss how the two compare for social recruitment. We’re going to start off with some quick social recruitment stats, demographics of Facebook and LinkedIn users, the privacy settings of each network, and, finally, how each tool compares to help you find, connect and hire top talent.Let’s jump into some quick stats to see how people are using social media to recruit.
Based on Jobvite’s social recruiting survey, 89% of companies are using social media tools for recruiting this year. 87% of those are using LinkedIn and 55% are using Facebook. 2/3 of companies are using two or more social networks for recruiting, and I think I know why…. each network has it’s strengths, weaknesses and unique demographics. Let’s take a look at what those are, starting with demographics.
Facebook is the largest human database of all time, with 800 million users compared with only 120 million on LinkedIn.Out of the 150 million US Facebook users, nearly 60% of those are between 18-34 years old. LinkedIn does not require birthdate information so it’s difficult to compare apples to apples, but it’s common knowledge that LinkedIn is not widely used by the younger generation – which is why they’ve recently revamped profiles for students by adding sections for projects, honors and awards, and courses. As of June, LinkedIn reported 15.5 million worldwide members that are students or have graduated in the past three years. Facebook has 4 times that amount in the US alone. To contrast, LinkedIn boasts that they have executives from all 2011 Fortune 500 companies as members, a figure that we have not seen on Facebook’s stats page. This data suggests that LinkedIn may remain the network of choice to recruit executives and more experienced hires, while Facebook can help you find the entry and mid-level candidates that prefer to do their personal and professional networking from a single platform. If you want to reach this demographic, it’s time to start networking on Facebook like you do on LinkedIn. Add your candidates as connections, share jobs on your profile, and ask for referrals. Facebook has recently made it easier to keep these professional interactions separate from personal information through updated privacy settings.
This is an example of what Facebook’s privacy settings can do to make your profile appropriate for professional use. The screenshot on the left is what my best friend sees when she looks at my profile. It includes all of my pictures and wall posts, my relationship status, my friend list, and other personal information that I wouldn’t necessarily want to share with job candidates. The screenshot on the right is what job candidates see on my profile. It only includes work and education information, public wall posts, and my profile pictures. I did this with lists, which is Facebook’s way of allowing you to keep your professional network separate from any personal information on a single platform. I have lists set up for friends, family, coworkers and job candidates so I can keep them separate from one another and choose which parts of my profile each can see. Now, I can use my Facebook profile for recruiting, like I would with LinkedIn.
