Sapienza University has a large academic library system serving over 140,000 students, faculty, and staff across its Rome campus. The libraries contain over 3 million print books and journals as well as extensive online resources. However, the role of academic libraries is changing with new technologies and user needs. Libraries must collaborate more with faculty and students, engage users where they are, and provide added value through innovative services and resources to remain an integral part of the university.
Wrangling Cats: A Case Study of a Library Consortium Migration
The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of 37 public and private academic institutions in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In January 2012, the Alliance began a two-year process of migrating all 37 institutions to a single, shared ILS. Migrating in four cohorts every six months, the first cohort of six institutions went live with Alma and Primo in July 2013 with the final cohort migrating in December 2014. A representative from one of the six pioneering libraries will discuss the motivations for migrating to Alma/Primo as a consortium, the implementation process, key post-migration wins, lessons learned, and migration tips and tricks.

Collaborative Digital Pedagogy for Digital Literacies in Humanities Classrooms

Students and staff have been developing their own digital literacies for years and successfully integrating them into their social and professional activities. The Visitors and Residents project has been capturing these literacies by interviewing participants within four educational stages from secondary school to experienced scholars. Using the Visitors and Residents idea as a framework the project has been mapping what motivates individuals and groups to engage with the web for learning. We have been exploring the information-seeking and learning strategies that are evolving in both personal and professional contexts. In this presentation we will discuss these emerging ‘user owned’ literacies and how they might integrate with institutional approaches to developing digital literacies. We also will discuss the Visitors and Residents mapping process and how this could be utilised by projects as a tool for reflecting on existing and potential literacies and the development of services and systems.

The Washington University Libraries created a digital repository called "Documenting Ferguson" to archive community reactions to the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO in 2014. A project team collected and made accessible images, videos, audio recordings, and other materials contributed by community members, documenting diverse perspectives on the events. The repository aimed to preserve a freely available resource for studying this important event. Issues around copyright, anonymity, and collaborating with other local institutions to enhance the collection are discussed.
