Microteaching is a pre-teaching tool used by novice teachers to simulate teaching through a process of planning, teaching, observing, critiquing and reflecting. However, it does not provide a realistic simulation of actual teaching. An extended project approach aims to address this by providing authentic teaching experiences through activities like classroom observations, tutoring assignments, practice teaching and actual team teaching. The paper describes an eight-part extended program used in a teacher education course that includes observation, tutoring, practice teaching, team teaching, recall sessions and a reflection paper. A case study example outlines the sequencing of these activities over a 13-week period for students to participate in hands-on teaching experiences and receive support and feedback to develop their skills
