Exercise 7: Network Routing Introduction For this assignment you will be working with understanding network traffic a bit. Below is a diagram of a small company network. The company has a router, called router1 and a remote site which has router2. Router1 has two network segments with a different subnet on each interface. Interface eth1 has PC with public IP's assigned. This company has a subnet 129.79.2.0/24 assigned to them. Interface eth 2 has a private subnet, 10.0.1.0/24. Finally, router1 has an interface to the internet over wan1. The remote router2, has a similar setup but only one interface and just has one interface with a private network defined as 192.168.10.0/28. The tables on the next page show networking details for these subnets. The Network Mapping Table is a partial table of IP assignment information while the Routing Table shows Router1's routes. The Network Mapping Table (when completed) gives all the information to configure the network interfaces for the fido.com company. Network topologies describe how devices connect and communicate on a network. The main topologies are bus, star, and ring. Bus has devices connected to a single cable while star connects devices to a central hub or switch. Ring connects devices in a closed loop.
Network devices help regulate traffic and include network interface cards, hubs, switches, routers, and firewalls. Hubs and switches connect multiple devices but switches avoid bandwidth interference. Routers connect different network types and find the best path for data transmission. Firewalls protect networks from unauthorized access.
When deploying a new network, factors to consider include topology, media, utilization, performance, cost, flexibility, and maintenance.

- 1. Exercise 7: Network Routing Introduction For this assignment you will be working with understanding network traffic a bit. Below is a diagram of a small company network. The company has a router, called router1 and a remote site which has router2. Router1 has two network segments with a different subnet on each interface. Interface eth1 has PC with public IP's assigned. This company has a subnet 129.79.2.0/24 assigned to them. Interface eth 2 has a private subnet, 10.0.1.0/24. Finally, router1 has an interface to the internet over wan1. The remote router2, has a similar setup but only one interface and just has one interface with a private network defined as 192.168.10.0/28. The tables on the next page show networking details for these subnets. The Network Mapping Table is a partial table of IP assignment information while the Routing Table shows Router1's routes. The Network Mapping Table (when completed) gives all the information to configure the network interfaces for the fido.com company. Router 1 - Routing Table Part 2 - Fill in the Network Mapping Table (10 Points) For this part fill out the missing cells in the Packet Dump sheet in the assignment excel spreadsheet. Here is a copy of the table. Parkat Dumn The table shows some TCP packets flowing through the router. The Router In Interface column represents which interface the router saw the packet arrive. The Router Out Interface column represents the interface over which the router forwards the packet. The router won't forward a packet to the same interface the packet arrived on. The Via Gateway column represents the gateway which is expected to handle forwarding the packet to its destination IP.
