EXCRETION IN PLANTS
 Plants also have a mechanism to eliminate excretory
products formed as the results of metabolic activity.
 Plants donot have specialized excretory system.
 Plants have a lessor amount of waste products as they
have a lower level of metabolic activities when compared
to animals.
TYPES OF EXCRETION IN PLANTS
 Stomata
 Hydathodes
 Formation of heartwood
 Abscission of leaves
STOMATA
 Excretes photosynthetic byproducts oxygen and
respiratory byproducts carbon dioxide and water.
HYDATHODES
 Excess water is eliminated through small pores present at
the tip of leaves in certain shrubs and grasses.
Formation of heartwood
 Some waste products are accumulated in the older xylem
cells seen at the centre and play a major role in the
formation of heartwood.
Abscission of leaves
 When leaves are about to fall ,plants absorb all useful
materials from them .
 Falling leaves contain only the waste materials
Questions
1) Which are the types of excretion in plants?
2) What is hydathodes?
3) What is stomata?
4) What is the importance of Abscission of leaves?
5) What are the functions of Stomata?
6) What you mean the term ‘heartwood’?
Collect the details of plants
excretion and note down in
the science diary. Mentiont
the importance of plants
excretion.
THANK YOU
