Though Lang, a fervent anti fascist, would find great success in cinematically portraying despotism in
his cult classic Metropolis (1927), Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler was the film that was the more directly
connected to a recovering Germany. Dr. Mabuse is an allegory for the political and economic strife

many images of the church and the old city of Bemersheim. The film would also flip to Rupertsberg,
