Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

LF Energy Webinar: Electrical Grid Modelling and Simulation Through PowSyBl -...DanBrown980551
Do you want to learn how to model and simulate an electrical network from scratch in under an hour?
Then welcome to this PowSyBl workshop, hosted by Rte, the French Transmission System Operator (TSO)!
During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

• “The secret of social media is that it is not
about you, your product or your story. It’s
about creating value for the communities that
happen to include you. If you want to make a

what you can contribute. Funnily enough, the
more value you create for the community, the
more value they will create for you.”

1958 to regain a technological lead against the USSR.
• U.S. Air Force recommends packet switching (as opposed to circuit
switching) to make a network that is highly robust and survivable. After
much work, what would become the ARPANET were interconnected
between UCLA and SRI (later SRI International) in Menlo
Park, California, on October 29, 1969. The ARPANET was one of the quot;evequot;
networks of today's Internet.
• The opening of the network to commercial interests began in 1988.
• Although the basic applications and guidelines that make the Internet
possible had existed for almost two decades, the network did not gain a
public face until the 1990s.

12. How to Monitor Your Social Media Presence in 10
Minutes a Day by Rebecca Corliss (HubSpot.com)
13. 5 Easy (and Free!) Steps:
• Monitoring your business' social media
presence is incredibly important. You need to
respond to people talking about your brand
and understand how people view your
company. However, a common concern is that
it takes up too much time.
• If you set up a solid routine, monitoring your
online presence doesn't have to be a hassle at
all.
14. • 1) Check Twitter for chatter about your company (2
minutes): Use tools like TweetDeck or Twitter Search to
monitor conversations about your company in real-time. To
check once a day, set up an RSS feed for a specific Twitter
Search to go straight to your Google Reader. Do this by clicking
the little RSS icon after you complete a search. Now, ongoing
search results will be sent to your reader.
• 2) Scan Google Alerts (1.5 minutes): Check your Google Alerts
for your company name, products, executives or brand terms.
To set this up, enter your search terms and select to receive
updates as they happen or once daily. Now, when people blog
about your products, an alert will be sent to your inbox. You
can read the articles and respond right away!
• 3) Check Facebook stats (1 minute): Visit your Company
Page's Facebook Insights. This can be found by clicking quot;morequot;
under the page's main photo. Scan your fans and page views
count. If you are a member of a group, check to see if any new
discussions started.
15. • 4) Answer Industry-related LinkedIn questions (3
minutes): Search for questions on LinkedIn that you or
members of your company can answer. You can set up
an RSS feed for specific question categories to go to
your Google Reader as well. When you find a relevant
question, respond and include a link to your website.
• 5) Use Google Reader to check Flickr, Delicious, Digg
and others (2.5 minutes): Also set up RSS feeds for
searches on your company name and industry terms in
other social media sites. Similar to monitoring LinkedIn
and Twitter, your Reader will serve as a great place to
centralize your other searches too!
• Do each task in the morning when you start work, and
you should be good to go.
16. Social Media and you
• Mindful networking:
– Relational and research-based networking

17. In case that wasn’t enough to convince
you…
• Time Management:
– If properly managed, social media tools can save
you time and energy
• Budget-minded:
– IT’s FREE
• Staying competitive in a down economy:
– Everyone in business, arts, organizations is
utilizing these tools
