1. “Evermore” by Dan Stevens
I was the one who had it all
I was the master of my fate
I never needed anybody in my life
I learned the truth too late
I'll never shake away the pain
I close my eyes but she's still there
I let her steal into my melancholy heart
It's more than I can bear
Analysis of Stanza 1:
This specific stanza shows that the character was a tough and
stonehearted man. He believed no one could ever enter into his heart
and change him as a person. When he says, that “he was the master of
his own fate” it shows that he knew where his life would lead him. He
knew that nothing could ever change his fate, but too late it was when
he finally learnt the truth.
The truth being that his fate was something else, something beautiful
but hurtful at the same time. He mentions, that “I’ll never shake away
the pain” and the lines following shows that a girl had entered his heart
and he had fallen in love, but her not being near him is making him
depressed and is hurting him to the point where he can no longer bear
the pain.
Now I know she'll never leave me
Even as she runs away
She will still torment me
Calm me, hurt me
Move me, come what may
Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I'll fool myself, she'll walk right in
And be with me for evermore
Analysis of Stanza 2:
When we look at the second stanza, it contradicts the previous one
because the character is trying to make himself happy by telling himself
that even though she’s not physically present, she is near and is always
in his heart. This stanza has a significant importance in the entire lyrics
because it is based on the ideology of true love and even though his
love has went far from him, he will always wait for her “by an open door”.
This emphasizes on his love because even though he knows she’ll
2. never come back he’ll still wait for her by fooling himself into believing
that she might actually walk through those doors one day.
I rage against the trials of love
I curse the fading of the light
Though she's already flown so far beyond my reach
She's never out of sight
Analysis of Stanza 3:
The third stanza sets the intensity of the song where the character
rages against love and the trials that he has to face for it. This line and
the second life both indirectly mean that he is absolutely shattered and
exactly how light fades away, his love fades away from his view leaving
him hurt. By trials he means, that in order to love someone truly you
need to let them go and he is against this trial that he’s facing but again
he realizes that even though she’s no longer in his reach, she’s never
out of his sight because he sees her everywhere. This emphasizes on
true love again.
Now I know she'll never leave me
Even as she fades from view
She will still inspire me
Be a part of everything I do
Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I'll fool myself, she'll walk right in
And as the long, long nights begin
I'll think of all that might have been
Waiting here for evermore
Analysis of stanza 4:
The last stanza is more or less the same. He reminds himself that she’ll
always be with him, but the only difference in this stanza from the
previous ones is that he mentions the future that would’ve been if she
stayed.
