This document provides guidelines for benchmarking Security Information Event Management (SIEM) systems. It defines a sample baseline network of a mid-sized company with 750 employees across 5 offices to use in the benchmarking calculations. The document then provides equations to calculate the normal and peak events per second (EPS) that the sample network could generate. Applying these equations to the sample network results in a normal EPS of 149.79 and an average peak EPS of 8,118.80 during a security incident. Organizations can use these guidelines and equations to determine their own customized SIEM benchmark requirements.
