How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
Our media film.
In our media film we wanted it to be clear who the
victim was instantly. We did this by having the opening
shots of josh stumbling and close ups of his face being
concerned and looking worried. The audience sees his
personality in this situation and is left wondering what
happened showing empathy for the character. Also
taking on board what needs to be used in social realism
films when it comes to location and settings. using a
alleyway but not too built up is realistic.
Our target audience for our film is 16-18 year olds and
therefore the actors we used were this 17 so as the
audience could relate to the protagonist. At the age
josh is cast in this film teenagers can be manipulated
and are still virgins to some of life. Furthermore whilst
josh is at this age drugs are likely to come into the
picture at some point. they can cause quite a
catastrophic effect on a teenagers life as well so it was
fitting for josh to be this age. The age and the situation
and the other factors all help make the film believable
so the audience will be more interested in the film.
In conclusion our media film group conforms to the
social groups in social realism and stereotypes of
teenagers and working class people. you can see this as
our character fits the stereotype of a teenager show in
social realism films. Moreover, our target audience is
able to relate to the character which means they will
share the sympathy for the character due to being able
to imagine themselves in the position. They might have
even been in the situation or know of the stereotype
themselves are portrayed as.
