Vertigo Films in particular has experience distributing films from the same thriller genre. Releasing the film first through online streaming platforms as well as film festivals could help build an audience without large marketing costs before a wider theatrical release in October to capitalize on Halloween interest in horror films.

Hammer would be a suitable media institution to distribute my media product because it is a British independent production company known for gothic/horror films as well as science fiction, thrillers, film noir and comedies. During its prominent years, it dominated the horror genre with the help of Warner Bros. for distribution and created some iconic independent films representing the thriller genre through tension and suspense.

Hammer Films would be a suitable distributor as they regularly produce similar thriller and horror genres. However, as a British institution, Hammer Films may not provide broad international recognition. 20th Century Fox would be a better choice as a major American studio that distributes globally. They have experience with thriller films and their recognizable logo would signal that the product is worth watching. Disney would not be a good fit as they focus on family-friendly content, whereas thrillers are not family oriented.

Optimum Releasing would be a suitable small institution to distribute the thriller film. As a low budget UK-based company, Optimum Releasing has experience releasing similar low budget thriller films in the UK market. Larger potential distributors include Universal Studios and Warner Brothers, major Hollywood studios with experience distributing thriller films globally through cinema screens, DVD, and TV platforms. These large institutions could more widely distribute the film but would require a higher budget.

- 1. EVALUATION THREE WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
- 2. DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES I looked at two very different companies that may have distributed our film which are Warner Brothers International Television Distribution and Terror films. They are both very different companies however they would both be suitable for our distribution company because of two different reasons.
- 3. WARNER BROTHERS DISTRIBUTION If Warner Brothers had distributed our film then it would have a larger scale audience because it is a large conglomerate that would have put more into the production of the film so it would have had a larger budget to make sure that the film was suitable for the distribution to an international audience. They would look at making the film bigger and having a larger amount of money spent on advertising.
- 4. WARNER BROTHER FILMS We chose Warner Brothers because they are one of the big six that are the most well-known for distributing the most internationally known horror films such as Sinister and The Conjuring which is similar to ours because it involves a group being haunted by a spirit which is very similar to Piper and their group within The Remembering.
- 5. TERROR FILMS DISTRIBUTION The other smaller distributor that we looked at was Terror Films which was a smaller company that specialised in distributing horror films for a smaller audience who also stick with streaming through their partners such as ITunes, Amazon and Xbox. This meant that a smaller but more specific audience would be able to access our film and they would be more likely to enjoy it because it would be specific to their type of genre.
- 6. TERROR FILMS We specifically chose them because they also have distributed similar films to ours in the past which have got good reviews from audiences. Because they specify in horror films they have distributed a lot of supernatural horror films that have similarities to ours such as The Dark Stranger and The Chosen. These are both similar to ours because of the fact that the age group is the same as Piper and the group but also because they are both about sprits.
