2. How did your product
represent particular social
groups?
Also, the age and gender of my model was
representative of female students, as well as the
entire age group of 16-19.
My including of a skateboard in my cover
image as well as bubble gum and a book are all
representative of some of the hobbies and
commitments of a college student and the
younger generation in general. It is therefore
clear that my target audience is a student. They
are also no gender specific hobbies, therefore
representative of the male students too.
To represent the college student social group, my
title was reminiscent of the handwriting/drawing
of a teenager.
The magazine content featured in my
contents included unisex subjects, including
music, fashion, film, software, social media
and advice columns, none of which are
gender specific, and are relatable for both
male and female readers. Also, my colour
scheme of purple and orange are neither
masculine or feminine stereotypical, and
even though my model was female, it none
of the magazine content was specific to one

therefore be

3. How did you attract or
address your audience?
I used various colour techniques to
attract my audience...
When taking my photograph, I
deliberately used lipstick which
matched the palette of my models tee-
shirt to show consistent use of colour
which is more striking and attractive to
the eye.
Also my colour scheme of orange and
purple which are opposites on the colour
wheel are complimentary and eye
catching to a potential buyer. They are
also not specific to a particular gender
which, despite my, intended female target
audience won’t deflect male readers.
Also, I used the technique of light text on
dark background and dark on light to
make my cover easy to read.I think however that the block background colour of orange looks
unprofessional. I therefore believe that if I had have incorporated more of
my colour scheme into my picture, I could use this as a the background, and
apply complimentary coloured text over the top.
The font used in both my cover and
contents page are similar to the handwriting
or drawing of a teenager which may attract
someone of this age to engage in the font.
I have also included images and ideas that a student audience might be
able to relate to, for example, a skateboard for sporting, books and
bubblegum etc, which were also all eye catching. However I think I
could have included an image more relative to my target audience of a
film/media student. For example a laptop or camera.
My model on both pages is the age of my
16-18 target audience. This may therefore
attract a student into looking at my cover
and thus reading the cover lines etc
By including social
media advertisements
on my contents
page, younger, internet
savvy buyers may be
attracted to look
at, and thus read the
contents page to see
the features. Also, my
jutting angled text
boxes on the contents
page were to create a
more arty effect which
my creative target
audience may find
attractive.
What I could have done better…
I think my contents page appears very
cluttered, and therefore a little bit
unattractive. I could have solved this by
moving the section of textboxes in my
first column up to create a staggered
effect in my folio. I could have
otherwise selected a photo where my

that the features
and regulars are
spread
throughout the
magazine.
When carrying out my photo shoot, I should have taken
pictures of things relatable to my magazine content, for
example a laptop or some clothes. This is because the
cover is dominated my one photo and is cluttered by
writing. A photo relatable to my magazine content
would have made the page more attractive, as well as
better conveying the fashion/ film genre.
Most magazine front covers
include more than 3 tag lines with
different colour fonts used. I think
my taglines would have looked
more professional without the use
of textboxes, as well including

looks unprofessional as it was
drawn in work. I think I could
have hand drawn one and scanned
it into the computer to add to my
creative cartoon font, or found a
more appropriate one from
Google.
I think the colours used on my
cover, even though they are
complimenting, appear harsh to
the eye, and thus unprofessional. I
therefore think I could have
improved this palate by making
them pastel colours. This would
not only be representative of the
recent summer months, but more
relatable to my target audience.

Evaluation questions 2&3

  • 1. 2. How did your product represent particular social groups?
  • 2. Also, the age and gender of my model was representative of female students, as well as the entire age group of 16-19. My including of a skateboard in my cover image as well as bubble gum and a book are all representative of some of the hobbies and commitments of a college student and the younger generation in general. It is therefore clear that my target audience is a student. They are also no gender specific hobbies, therefore representative of the male students too. To represent the college student social group, my title was reminiscent of the handwriting/drawing of a teenager.

The magazine content featured in my contents included unisex subjects, including music, fashion, film, software, social media and advice columns, none of which are gender specific, and are relatable for both male and female readers. Also, my colour scheme of purple and orange are neither masculine or feminine stereotypical, and even though my model was female, it none of the magazine content was specific to one By including the CCN logo at the top of my contents page, teachers or any other means of staff at the college are represented and could therefore be interested in buying the magazine.
  • 4. 3. How did you attract or address your audience?
  • 5. I used various colour techniques to attract my audience... When taking my photograph, I deliberately used lipstick which matched the palette of my models tee- shirt to show consistent use of colour which is more striking and attractive to the eye. Also my colour scheme of orange and purple which are opposites on the colour wheel are complimentary and eye catching to a potential buyer. They are also not specific to a particular gender which, despite my, intended female target audience won’t deflect male readers. Also, I used the technique of light text on dark background and dark on light to make my cover easy to read.I think however that the block background colour of orange looks unprofessional. I therefore believe that if I had have incorporated more of my colour scheme into my picture, I could use this as a the background, and apply complimentary coloured text over the top.
  • 6. The font used in both my cover and contents page are similar to the handwriting or drawing of a teenager which may attract someone of this age to engage in the font. I have also included images and ideas that a student audience might be able to relate to, for example, a skateboard for sporting, books and bubblegum etc, which were also all eye catching. However I think I could have included an image more relative to my target audience of a film/media student. For example a laptop or camera. My model on both pages is the age of my 16-18 target audience. This may therefore attract a student into looking at my cover and thus reading the cover lines etc By including social media advertisements on my contents page, younger, internet savvy buyers may be attracted to look at, and thus read the contents page to see the features. Also, my jutting angled text boxes on the contents page were to create a more arty effect which my creative target audience may find attractive.
  • 7. What I could have done better… I think my contents page appears very cluttered, and therefore a little bit unattractive. I could have solved this by moving the section of textboxes in my first column up to create a staggered effect in my folio. I could have otherwise selected a photo where my Also, my folio appears in chronological order. I should have mixed up the numbers so that the features and regulars are spread throughout the magazine. When carrying out my photo shoot, I should have taken pictures of things relatable to my magazine content, for example a laptop or some clothes. This is because the cover is dominated my one photo and is cluttered by writing. A photo relatable to my magazine content would have made the page more attractive, as well as better conveying the fashion/ film genre. Most magazine front covers include more than 3 tag lines with different colour fonts used. I think my taglines would have looked more professional without the use of textboxes, as well including My puff on in the right third also looks unprofessional as it was drawn in work. I think I could have hand drawn one and scanned it into the computer to add to my creative cartoon font, or found a more appropriate one from Google. I think the colours used on my cover, even though they are complimenting, appear harsh to the eye, and thus unprofessional. I therefore think I could have improved this palate by making them pastel colours. This would not only be representative of the recent summer months, but more relatable to my target audience.
