QUESTION TWO
3. QUESTION TWO
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our opening sequence consisted of one female lead, who is Sabrina
Cooper, she would be under the social group type of being an
outcast/ unpopular due to the fact she is very unusual and had some
strange behaviours and thoughts. Therefore she would be
considered not being able to connect with any ones else this why
she has a problem of finding love.
Male lead: played by Ben Rippon would be put into the social group of
the popular guy which everyone girl would want to be with or have
some kind of crush, as he is a good looking male with a nice
personality. Ben is classified into the popular social group as he is
well dressed and cares about his appearance.
Other female Character: played by Hannah Church would be classed as
popular and all rounded kind of girl, also she will be associated as
being the girl next door. This is presented by the way she looks and
acts, she is perceived to be very genuine and kind, but yet i still put
her into the popular category due to the fact she is very fashionable
and has made an effect to the way she looks which popular girls
tend to care about.
4. QUESTION TWO
Illustrate each person represented in your film. Label them.
Eventually once we got our feedback form our peers and teachers Ben and Hannah were no
longer shown in our opening sequence, and it was purely based on Sabrina. But the
whole idea originated from Ben and Hannah's purpose within the opening that Sabrina
loves Ben but Ben loves Hannah.
Explain how and why you have used them in your film – in order words, how is the audience
meant to react to them and understand them.
Sabrina Cooper was used as our female lead, but also shown as being the protagonist. The
reason for using Sabrina is that we believed she truly fitted the look we were aiming
for, as she looked quite creepy and has very long dark hair, and she has a very small
physique, very much like the girl from the grudge the audience is meant to feel empathy
towards her as all she longs for is to be in love with, or have that romantic feelings
towards someone that loves her back, the audience will feel empathy as she isn't very
lucky in love at all so she gets very frustrated with her self. The audience may also feel
scared of her, when the crazy side of her character is revealed as they cant understand
what she is naturally capable of.
Ben Rippon is our male lead in our opening sequence, he also shown as being the hero who
saves the day. His role in the opening sequence is being Sabrinas true obsession. The
audience will get a long with Ben and like his as a character due to the fact he is genuine
in his personality and looks.
Hannah Church our other female character, she is shown as being the victim as Sabrina
inevitable wants to get rid of Hannah so she can have Ben, the audience will feel sorry for
her as she is stuck within a situation, that someone is trying to still her boyfriend and will
do anything to get rid of her.
5. QUESTION TWO
Refer to cultural signifiers such as hairstyle, make-up, clothes etc. Refer to
race, age, gender, subculture, regional identity, social class etc and show how you
have targeted your audience by using actors that reflect them (see q.4/5).
Sabrina ethnicity is of Pilipino descent which fits in to being one of the conventions in
thriller films as the may character always seems to be from an oriental descent.
Sabrina was instructed not to wear any make up at all considering it would make
her look a lot older than what she does, then she would a lot older than what our
specific target audience is. Sabrina will be of middle class status but this will not be
emphasised considering we didn't want to go into a lot of detail of her background
which adds a sense of mystery. We also made sure Sabrina wore red clothing due
to the fact, red would be associated with her throughout the whole of the opening.
Ben is very much the boy next door kind of guy, we made Ben wear smart trouser and
a hoodie to make him seem very modern and up to date with fashion, also by
wearing this he came across very normal an average. We made him seem very
typical which made it easier for the audience to relate to him.
Hannah is known as the typical english rose, with her colouring and demeanour, the
hairstyle she has is also very modern and in fashion as with the clothes we told her
to wear. Culturally the majority of the audience that what the opening sequence will
be the same age as Hannah.
