3. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the
product? Research – internet, DVD extra, audio commentaries
Before I began AS level Media studies, I did not have a very big understanding of the
technologies that were available to me, however from doing Media at GCSE I had
good understanding of some of the planning required and construction process, as
last year we made trailers using Sony Vegas.
One of the first process we had to do before creating our opening sequence was to
decide the genre of our opening sequence, so we all knew what to research, for
example to analyse other thriller sequence, codes and conventions of a thriller.
We also all conducted research on two well know people who are known for
creating incredible opening sequence, these consisted of Kyle Cooper and Saul
Bass, then we analysed and wrote about the Importance of an opening sequence,
we were able to understand what our sequence needed to include to make it good.
Planning – cameras for locations etc
During the planning process of our opening sequence was very long, first we had
come up with an idea which we would be able to develop, once we had this the
other planning parts began to control. We had to decide where we were going to
film all of our footage, the locations we decided upon was a forest trail and then
two different bedroom locations, we didn't want to have very complex locations as
it may take away from the narrative we wanted to give. Once we had chosen our
locations we had produce health and safety precautions so we would know what to
do it something went wrong.

4. Other planning process involved selecting music, costumes, producing a script and a
storyboard, this gave us a guideline when we came to filming. Even though when
we came to filming some of it was just thought up on the spot. The technology i
learnt in this stage was how to blog by using wordpress.
Construction – LOADS ON THIS – cameras, editing software, filters and other
post-production effects, music, non-diegetic sound effects
Once we had filmed we began to edit the footage we had produced. The is where we
as group learnt the most during this whole process, it enabled us to experiment
with lots of techniques for example enhancing the colour red into some or our
scene, darker less contrast which enabled us to make the clip ;look a lot darker
than what it actually was which was good considering we were producing a thriller.
We did face some problems while using Sony Vegas which wasn't helpful, when we
tried to upload too many clips at once Sony Vegas would crash and then delete all
the work we previously had done, our solutions was to add them at little amounts
each time, and then delete the ones we weren't using..
When we added the music and it got to the end of the track we didn't want the music
to just end and stop, so we created a bridge within the song and made the second
track faded in before the first track had ended. This made the music flow more
consistently ant it didn't sound to jumpy

5. . The only type of sound used during our opening sequence was non diegetic
sound, the diegetic sound we used was when our female lead was typing on the
computer.
We also added portals when our titles where showing, this made the transitions
clear, we chose portals as they matched our red theme we had going on also it
was an invented way of breaking the scenes up.
Evaluation – youtube for feedback, excel for pie charts
for our evaluating stage we form a focus group, and showed them our finished
opening sequence, and we were able to get a range of different opinions,
previously i said the feedback w e received. We also received feedback off of
YouTube it was good to receive this feedback because they couldn't be biased just
because they knew us or where our friends.
By allowing feedback of YouTube users,
we could receive harsh comment or lovely
opinions, if a harsh opinions was given we
would take it on board and it would make
us more determined to improve our
opening.
