Corey Balsom reflects on what they learned from their preliminary task to their full media studies product. They learned several new Photoshop skills like copying and applying effects between layers and removing backgrounds using masks. They also picked up techniques for removing objects from greenscreens, adding borders and boxes to images, and using different font styles to make the magazine stylish following industry conventions. By the time creating the double page spread, Corey felt experienced with Photoshop and able to efficiently apply their skills.
2. “Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to
the full product?”
3. Looking Back
• I feel that I have learnt quite a lot over the
progression from the beginning to the final
product.
• In this presentation I will be going over the
things I have learnt when making the final
product of my coursework.
4. Front Cover
• For the front cover I already had
some of my own experience with
Adobe Photoshop so I knew what to
expect when it came to the
production of the magazine.
However, there were a few features
that I came to learn about during my
time while producing the front cover.
For example, I did not know that you
can copy and apply effects from one
layer to another, and that you can
remove the background of a picture
by using a mask. During my time I
have now learnt how to do these
and other things as well.
5. Contents Page
• I also learnt new things that
would be useful on the
contents page as well, such as
removing an object from a
green/bluescreen, putting
borders and boxes around
images, and using several font
styles to my advantage so that
I could make the magazine as
stylish as possible. I tried to
follow the conventions of
modern music magazines as
close as possible with the use
of image manipulation and
cover lines.
6. Double Page Spread
• By the time I had reached the
production of my double page
spread article, I was fairly
experienced with Photoshop
at this point. So with this
knowledge I knew what I had
to do and how to do it. Overall
I think the production of the
music magazine went very
smoothly as my previous
experience had allowed me to
use my skills properly and
efficiently.
