HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING
AND EVALUATION STAGES?
Throughout the course I used a number of media
technologies. These technologies were used in almost
every aspect of the course including the construction
of the main tasks, research, planning and evaluation
stages. The technologies were massively useful as
would have been unable to do the majority of the vital
sections of the work for my projects. Each piece of
technology I used had a different function in my
project and were used in different sections of it. To
fully explain how I used each technology, one must
look at each different technology separately.
INTRODUCTION
Blogger is a blog creation website that is owned by Google. I
used blogger to create the blog that all of my coursework was
uploaded to. It was extremely useful throughout the project and
provided me with a large amount of tools to create an
impressive looking blog and blog posts. I already had
experience with Blogger as we had used it for our coursework
last year, so I found it very easy to use. It was used throughout
the entirety of the project.
BLOGGER
Slideshare is a website that allows people to upload their
PowerPoint presentations and display them on the internet. It
was simple to use and allowed me to present my work in a
different way. One of its most important uses to me was
allowing me to upload the presentation that my group had
shown to the class to pitch our film idea. In addition to that, it
is what is currently being used to display this PowerPoint
document.

Facebook is a massively popular social networking website. I
used it to contact my group members outside of school time,
arrange times for filming and get audience feedback. I was able
to do this because Facebook is so popular that the majority of
people that I know use it, thus allowing for great advantages in
communication with others.
FACEBOOK
Sony Vegas was the primary piece of video editing software that
was used by my group. It is a professional standard video
editing tool and was used to construct the entire final film
trailer. It allowed us to position the clips on a timeline, add text
scenes, remove unwanted audio, add special effects, add sound
effect and narration, add nice looking transitions and render
out the video in a high quality format. All of my group members
were able to broaden their understanding of the software
throughout the project and were all able to have an input into
the editing of the video.
SONY VEGAS
Serif Movieplus is a program that is used to edit video footage.
Since I was already using a better piece of film making
software, Serif Movieplus only had a small impact on my
project. I used it to edit the audience feedback videos that I did.
I did this because it was the only piece of movie editing
software that my school had. It was easy to use but was highly
limited in features, it was ideal for editing the audience
feedback footage as it did not require much editing.

Google Chrome is a popular internet browser. I used it to access
the internet at my house and do a lot of my research. It allowed
me to easily navigate around the internet and discover a vast
amount of useful websites. Without Google Chrome I would
have had to have used Internet Explorer, which is an internet
browser that is significantly slower than Google Chrome.
GOOGLE CHROME
Internet Explorer is another internet browser. It is one of the
slowest browsers, therefore I often use Google Chrome.
However I had to use it for my research that I did at school
since my school did not have any other internet browsers
installed and their restrictions did not allow us to download and
install anything.

The Canon 1100D is the camera that my group used to take the
majority of our video footage with. In addition to this it was
used to take the pictures for our location scout and ancillary
texts. It was highly useful as it could be carry by hand, produced
professional looking videos and pictures, could be fitted onto a
tripod and allowed the images and video to be transferred to a
laptop or computer with ease.
CANON 1100D
Youtube is a popular video sharing website. My group and I used
it to upload the video that we produced to it. It was massively
useful as the videos uploaded to it could be played in high
quality settings, the videos were made instantly available on a
wide range of devices including computers and mobile phones
and the video could be embedded thus allowing me to show
them straight from my blog.
YOUTUBE
Cinema 4D is a piece of software that is used to model 3D
images and create animations. It is a very high standard piece
of software. I used it to create the introduction animation for
my group’s fictional video studio. However since we changed
the name of our fictional studio, we ended up not using the
animation that I had created using Cinema 4D. Last year I used
the software to create the 3D texts for my music magazine so I
was already very familiar with the software.
CINEMA 4D
Adobe Photoshop is a piece of software that is used for editing
images. I already had a lot experience with the software since
producing interesting graphics is a hobby of mine, I also used
the software last year for the creation my music magazine. I
used Adobe Photoshop to create both my final film poster and
magazine cover. It provided me with a massive amount of tools
with which I could use to create professional looking images
and therefore allowed me a huge amount of creative freedom.
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
Serif Draw Plus is a piece of graphic design software. I used it
to plan out my ideas for the film poster and magazine cover
since my school had uninstalled their version of Adobe
Photoshop. I then took these rough ideas that I had created in
Serif Draw Plus and made them into products that were
significantly better using the copy of Adobe Photoshop that I
have at my house. I did this because I am more familiar with
Adobe Photoshop and feel that Serif Draw Plus does not allow
as much creativity as it.
SERIF DRAW PLUS
I used shirtmockup.com to create an example of a piece of film
merchandise. It is website that allows people to display their
images on a virtual shirt. It was interesting to see what the
merchandise for my group’s film may look like, but overall
shirtmockup had little use in my project.
SHIRTMOCKUP
Audacity is a free audio editing piece of software. It was used to
edit the music for my trailer, record the narration for it and to
export the audio files in a suitable format. It played a major
part in the construction of my group’s final film trailer.
AUDACITY
FL Studio is a piece of software that is used to create music
and other audio. I used it to generate a set of computer
generated voices that read the script for our film trailer. Overall
its impact on the project was small, but it allowed me to
present my work in a different format and was therefore useful
to m.
FL STUDIO
Soundcloud is a website that audio can be uploaded to. I used it
to display the set of computer generated voices that read out
my film trailer’s script. It was very useful as I was able to
embed the audio file into one of my blogger posts and thus
display my work in a different way to usual.
SOUNDCLOUD
Macromedia Flash 8 is a piece of software that is primarily used
for animating, drawing and programming. Since I was already
familiar with the software, I used it to create the diagram for
the photography studio that my group created. However it only
had a limited amount of use in my project as that was the only
piece of work that I used it for.
