Evaluation question 4:
“Who would be the
audience for your media
product?”
Previous audience research:
Previous audience research:
Previous audience research:
Fischoff (1994)
http://web.calstatela.edu/faculty/sfischo/media3.html)
The results shown
are similar to what I
found in my own
research. Both results
show that males
typically prefer more
intense action based
films whereas
females tend to show
interest in
romance, musicals
and fantasy.
Fischoff (1994)
http://web.calstatela.edu/faculty/sfischo/media3.html)
These results show the
trends in age and genre- my
research lacked a broader
range of ages due to the
availability of those willing
to answer. Young adults (13-
25) show the most interest
into action adventure and
murder more than the other
two ages groups. All of the
research enables me to
establish my target
audience: males aged 15-25.
Although the Fischoff study
choose to categorize 'young'
as 13-25 I think my film's
plot would contain too much
violence and gore for
someone under 15 to
watch/understand.
After the audience feedback:
The audience feedback of the finished product
showed equal appreciation from both genders
which goes against the Fiscoff study and what we
had assumed our ‘ideal’ target audience would be.
However, this is a good thing because it means that
we should be able to gather a wider audience than
expected.
What would appeal to this audience?
I think the main thing that would appeals to
them both is the balance between physical conflict
and mental conflict. It is not entirely violence,
blood and gore, there is a very strong psychological
theme throughout the film which is possibly why
both genders appear to enjoy it.
Is social class a factor?
Although there are stereotypes about intelligence
in relation to class, I don’t think that it is relevant
for our film. Some of these stereotypes suggest
that ‘upper-class’ individuals are more intelligent.
Is social class a factor?
In my opinion, age is the most important factor
concerning the understanding of the film’s plot and
non-linear narrative. Dangerous behaviour that may be
influential for teens depends on factors such as
“realism, context and setting” (BBFC)- our film uses
some violence but only on a minimal scale. We don’t
particularly dwell on any details which could be
harmful to our youngest target audience (15 years).
