PSYCHOGRAPHIC
The Pre-Cut to our film, and the treatment I created, is quite violent and tense in
some scenes; it involves chase scenes, knives, guns and kidnapping. Because
of this our main psychographic will be for people who are interested in action
and suspense. Due to the constant relation to violence with the connotations of
guns and knives always appearing this may put off certain people with certain
beliefs, religions and interests. Because our psychographic audience is based
around people who have in interest in action, suspense and kidnapping type of
films, then the audience should all near enough have the same views on the
subject, in this case kidnapping. These views most likely being that they can see
it is wrong and know its wrong, but at the same time, they're intrigued in the
subject and they want to find out why people have the urges and motives to do
it. Or the audiences views may be totally irrelevant to what I just mentioned, that
is just one take on the general psychographics of our audience.
BBFC
I have also been researching the BBFC, as seen in the pictures below, and have been matching the
criteria in my treatment and Pre-Cut to the criteria on the BBFC website for each Age Rating.
Because there are particular scenes with "strong violence" I thought it would be a good idea to have
the age rating for my Opening Sequence set at 15.
CHARACTER PROFILE
This is John Smith, he is 19 years old nearing the end of his first year of University at the
University of Hertfordshire studying Media. He has 1 brother, aged 13, and they both
have similar interests. He has a lot of likes and interests which include gaming and
music; he also has a particular interest in going to the cinema to watch new movies. She
enjoys Thriller films of all sorts ranging from Taken, Inception & Shutter island to the Dark
Knight and Now You See Me. He enjoys going out and watching movies with his friends
and also likes TV soaps, such as EastEnders and Coronation Street.
Personally, I think that our film would appeal to John Smith because he enjoys Thriller
films and not just a certain type, he enjoys the Action Thrillers, Mystery Thrillers and
Horror Thrillers. Because his brother is a quite a lot younger than him, he could perhaps
relate to the Opening Sequence because although the plot is about Jack and his son, we
could have easily chosen to use Jack and a younger brother instead of a son.
Due to his interest in Cinema and all Thriller films, this tells me that he would be quite
fond of our Opening Sequence, that is if we have successfully achieved our idea of
creating a Thriller Opening Sequence. Also, his interest in soaps tells me he is not all
about the action when it comes to watching media, he also enjoys something a little
more relaxed and more emotional, and again there are points in our Opening Sequence
which are quite emotional, such as the ending.
CONCLUSION
Although my main audience is both men and women aged from 1555, that doesn't mean that people above the age of 55 won't be
interest in our Opening Sequence. So although we have succeeded in
addressing the demographic and psychographic audience, we have
still included aspects and elements which might appeal to an even
older audience, thus creating a wider audience. A wider audience is
important because it increases the chances of our Opening Sequence
to become successful and noticed. Keeping in mind our main target
audience, men and women aged 15-55, is still key because it gives us
a specific audience to target rather than just generalising and
attempting to target everyone with different interests and likes.
