The document summarizes feedback from surveys about a documentary, magazine spread, and radio trailer created by the author.
SurveyMonkey was used to create questionnaires for peers about each piece. Feedback indicated sound levels and transitions needed improvement in the documentary. The magazine and radio pieces were seen as professional and informative but could have better balanced audio levels. Overall, the feedback was positive and provided guidance on audio quality.

Open Access Funds: Getting a Bigger Bang for Our Buckspmoore3415
Bobby Glushko, Crystal Hampson, Patricia Moore, Elizabeth Yates.
Many libraries offer open access publishing funds to support authors in paying article processing charges (APC) levied by some OA journals. However, there are no standard practices for managing or assessing these funds. This situation prompted the Canadian Association of Research Libraries’ Open Access Working Group (OAWG) to investigate and articulate best practices for successful open access fund management. In spring 2015, as part of this endeavor, the OAWG surveyed the 14 Canadian academic libraries with OA funds to review their criteria and collect feedback. The need for this information is increasingly important given that the sustainability of these funds is under review at most institutions. Budget constraints are forcing some institutions revisit or reconfigure these funds. At the same time, Canada’s new Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications (effective May 2015) mandates open access for funded research and is increasing the demand from researchers who are seeking financial support from their institutions to pay APCs. This session will share the survey results, including the overview of relevant findings from international praxis and professional literature. The presenters will highlight the project’s recommendations regarding best practices for open access publishing fund management as well as other strategies developed by international agencies including SPARC. Audience members are invited to contribute comments, ideas and experiences from their own institutions. Attendees will take away ideas for establishing and managing open access publishing funds.

Evaluation, Question 3
1. WHAT HAVE YOU
LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
Evaluation, Question 3
Marcus Stanley
2. Introduction & SurveyMonkey
■ We decided to create three separate questionnaires in
order to gain feedback from our peers at the college.
■ We create a questionnaire each for our documentary,
our radio trailer and our magazine double page spread.
■ We did this using an online survey creator called
'SurveyMonkey' that was also free to use.
■ SurveyMonkey allowed us to create each survey
sufficiently and easily, as well as providing us with the
necessary feedback from our peers in visual form.
■ We asked 10 people to answer our questionnaire which
included people of both genders and various ethnic
backgrounds to corroborate our target audience.
3. Documentary Survey
■ Using SurveyMonkey, we created a
survey based on what our peers'
thoughts and views were on various
aspects and features of our
documentary
■ We asked 6 questions for our
documentary questionnaire and each
of which and their results will be
presented in the proceeding slides.
■ A screenshot of our documentary,
titled "The Pros and Cons of
Technology in Sport" is pictured on the
right.
4. Question 1Documentary Survey
■ As a group, we agreed that adjusting
the sound levels was a difficult task
and finding the right balance
between each audio piece would be
challenging.
■ Therefore when checking our results
we were relieved to discover that
70% admitted that the sound levels
were adequet.
5. Question 2Documentary Survey
■ As a group, we agreed that our use of
transitions wasn't as varied as they
could've and probably should've been.
■ We feared that this lack of variation
could have been tedious for viewers on
reflection and therefore we were not
surprised to see that 40% felt that the
transitions were not smooth.
■ Despite the majority of the 10 people
who participated believing that they
were smooth, we were disappointed to
see that the viewers were aware of the
problems with our transitions.
6. Question 3Documentary Survey
■ At the beginning of our production,
we as a group agreed that we
wanted the purpose of our
documentary to be informative for
our audience.
■ We felt that we included enough
educational information into our
piece to fulfil this purpose
sufficiently.
■ The results we recieved from the
participating 10 people were very
satisfying for us as a group as 100%
of them felt the documentary was
informative.
7. Question 4Documentary Survey
■ Although the purpose of our film was
to be informative, we also wanted our
documentary to be entertaining for
our viewers.
■ Through our expert interviews and
other features of our film we thought
that it would create entertainment for
the audience.
■ The majority of people who answered
this questionnaire believed it's
entertainment value was good.
■ It was pleasing to see that no one
thought that our documentary wasn't
entertaining.
8. Question 5Documentary Survey
■ Admittedly, this question was
perhaps a little vague but by 'clear'
we meant clear were our vox pop
and expert interview footage clear to
gather the opinions of the relavent
people involved
■ We were glad to discover that the
majority of the people asked felt that
examples of these features were
clear.
9. Question 6Documentary Survey
■ After reviewing the final
documentary we agreed as a group
that the quality of the camera work
may have been questionable,
particularly during the scene
involving the establishing shot of our
college.
■ 30% of people said that the camera
work was not steady throughout the
duration of our piece, perhaps this
was what they were referring to.
■ Overall we were pleased that the
majority of people thought that the
camera work was steady.
10. VIDEO OF PARTICIPANTS
VIEWING OUR DOCUMENTARY
A link to view some of our participants
view our documentary will feature
below this embedded presentation in
this thread.
Some of the 10 participants who
answered our survey on the
documentary and watched it did so off
camera on a separate occasion.
11. Magazine Double Page Spread Survey
■ Using SurveyMonkey, we created a
survey based on what our peers'
thoughts and views were on various
aspects and features of our
magazine double page spread.
■ We asked 5 questions for our
magazine questionnaire and each of
which and their results will be
presented in the proceeding slides.
■ Our magazine double page spread is
pictured on the right.
12. Question 1Magazine Double Page SpreadSurvey
■ Creating our magazine piece in
Adobe InDesign, we felt we had the
required software at our disposal to
create a very professional looking
double page spread.
■ We were overwhelmed that the
majority of people thought that our
piece was very professional.
13. Question 2Magazine Double Page Spread Survey
■ Like our documentary, we also
wanted our magazine piece to be
informative.
■ However, we wanted our piece to be
informative in the discussion of what
our documentary involves in terms
of features, as opposed to being
informative in regard to the uses of
technology in sport to which is the
sense of an informative purpose
depicted in our documentary.
■ We were glad so see such positive
results as 70% believed our
magazine DPS was informative.
14. Question 3 Magazine Double Page Spread Survey
■ We didn't want to overflow our
magazine with too many images,
despite including a main image as
well as 4 other images over the
spread.
■ We were glad to see that the
majority of people felt that the
amount of text eclipsed the amount
of images we placed into our double
page spread in terms of ratio.
15. Question 4 Magazine Double Page Spread Survey
■ By 'house style' we meant the font
size, style and colour as well as how
we used colour schemes.
■ The participants all felt that the
house style of the magazine DPS
suited that of the documentary.
16. Question 5 Magazine Double Page Spread Survey
■ We were happy to discover that
100% of participants admitted that
our magazine DPS caught their eye
and made them want to pick it up
and read .
17. RadioTrailer Survey
■ Using SurveyMonkey, we created a
survey based on what our peers'
thoughts and views were on various
aspects and features of our radio
trailer.
■ We asked 5 questions for our radio
trailer questionnaire and each of
which and their results will be
presented in the proceeding slides.
■ Our radio trailer spread is pictured
on the right, being produced in
GarageBand.
18. Question 1 RadioTrailer Survey
■ Like with the documentary, we felt
that adjusting the sound levels to
create balanced audio.
■ The difficulty of doing so proved
evident in the feedback we received
as 40% of the 10 listeners felt the
sound levels were inconsistent.
■ However, overall we were glad that
the majority (60%) of people that
answered this survey felt that the
sound levels were consistent and
therefore balanced.
19. Question 2 RadioTrailer Survey
■ We wanted to ask the 10 listeners
their opinion on the dominance of
the background music as we feared
the volume of which could have
drowned the audio of our voice overs
and expert interviews, for example.
■ 70% of the participants felt that the
background music we implemented
into the trailer was at the right
volume to create a sufficient piece.
20. Question 3 RadioTrailer Survey
■ Again, we feared that due to sound
levels that the voices in certain clips
of our radio trailer may have been
difficult to understand for our
listeners.
■ Luckily, the majority felt that the
people's voices in our pierce were
loud and clear enough to result in a
sufficient radio trailer.
21. Question 4 RadioTrailer Survey
■ Through an entertaining and
persuasive purpose, we felt we could
integrate enjoyment for our listeners
as we used excerpts from our
documentary it self.
■ We were glad to see that none of the
10 people that answered our survey
thought that our radio trailer wasn't
at all enjoyable to listen to.
22. Question 5 RadioTrailer Survey
■ We added many clips from our
documentary into our radio trailer.
■ Notably, a clip from expert Nick
Waring (MediaTeacher) speaking
about the uses of technology in sport
has been used from our interview
with him.
■ We happily discovered that 100% of
the participants believed that the
clips taken from the documentary
were appropriate for our trailer as an
audio file.
