Question 2. How does your
media product represent
particular social groups?
Gender
In my media product gender isn’t represented a lot
but there is only one character were we can define
their gender, as the attackers gender is animus.
This media product I created may be stereotypical
as it may send a message that only males commit
crimes which is not the case.
Age
Most people believe that teenagers are out of
control, the main character carrying knifes backs up
that point fully as he is shown to be irresponsible.
He is a teenager and the audience may be
interested in how a young adult may have been put
in a position were carrying a knife makes them feel
secure. This may show that some of the young
generation today may feel insecure with their
surrounding.
Class
We can see that concerning class the main
character is stereotypical low class in south
London. We are able to identify his class by the
setting and the costume which indicates a low class
young man in our society today. High class citizens
are not usually involved in criminal activity so it is
blatant that he is in not that class. His actions may
be the result of the condition of his parents and it
maybe effecting him emotionally and mentally.
Race
This media product is stereotypical about young
black males, showing the main character to be a
criminal. Also the area he lives may be related to
their race as majority of people who live in flats are
the black race and are involved in the criminal
lifestyle.
The links to the target
audience
This links to my target audience as the majority will
be teenagers and young adults and the main
character is a teenager, some teenagers maybe
able to relate to the nightmares of the past or
carrying weapons for protection. This also relates
to people who have been stalked this can show a
situation which may happen in a city.
