Question 1
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products.
Double page spread
The title is clearly shown on
the magazine in a font
which is suitable to the
topic which is being talked
about. The title is in the
same place as it would be in
other magazines as this
makes it clearer for the
audience, as well as the fact
people read from left to
right so the title will be one
of the first things to be
seen.
I have a main image on the double page spread. This image takes up
the majority of the space. This is conforming to codes and conventions
of magazines as it is a relevant image and is clearly visible.
I have included a secondary
image which is connected to
what is being spoken about
in the article. This is often
included in magazines and I
decided I will use it to make
the magazine more
appealing for audiences due
to more images and less
text.
I have a standfirst which is
another code and
convention of magazines.
This standfirst explains what
the article is about and it is
a quotation from the article
itself.
I have included a pull quote in my magazine.
This is the same colour as the title and therefore
stands out. This grabs the readers attention
which is what I want for my magazine.
I have a by line to show who wrote the article. I
created a random name as my group or I would
not have written the article about the
documentary that we created.
I have the radio times
masthead to link the DPS
to the magazine.
On the DPS I have the
article. This is needed as
there is no point in the DPS
without it. I have it wrapped
around the image taking up
the rest of the space that
has not already been taken.
The article contains relevant
information and links to the
title and standfirst.
Codes and Conventions
I decided that with the magazine I wanted to conform to codes and
conventions instead of challenging them. This is due to the fact that
readers of the RadioTimes magazine have a layout which they are use
to and it would not be appealing for them if the layout was changed.
Therefore I kept the magazine looking like one which would be found in
a magazine. As well as this, conforming to the codes and conventions
makes the article clearer and easier to read for the audience.
Some more codes and conventions I included were a clear colour
scheme, date and time of the product being advertised, a drop cap,
and a background image.

Evaluation Question 1

  • 1. Question 1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products. Double page spread
  • 2. The title is clearly shown on the magazine in a font which is suitable to the topic which is being talked about. The title is in the same place as it would be in other magazines as this makes it clearer for the audience, as well as the fact people read from left to right so the title will be one of the first things to be seen. I have a main image on the double page spread. This image takes up the majority of the space. I have included a secondary image which is connected to what is being spoken about in the article. This is often included in magazines and I decided I will use it to make the magazine more appealing for audiences due to more images and less text. I have a standfirst which is another code and convention of magazines. This standfirst explains what the article is about and it is a quotation from the article itself. I have it wrapped around the image taking up the rest of the space that has not already been taken. The article contains relevant information and links to the title and standfirst.
  • 3. Codes and Conventions I decided that with the magazine I wanted to conform to codes and conventions instead of challenging them. This is due to the fact that readers of the RadioTimes magazine have a layout which they are use to and it would not be appealing for them if the layout was changed. Therefore I kept the magazine looking like one which would be found in a magazine. As well as this, conforming to the codes and conventions makes the article clearer and easier to read for the audience. Some more codes and conventions I included were a clear colour scheme, date and time of the product being advertised, a drop cap, and a background image.
