1. In what ways does you media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When constructing the DPS we looked at other DPS' from
RadioTimes as that is the magazine our article would feature in. We
looked closely at the 'Doctor Who, Behind the Scenes' article and
took conventions from that to follow when making ours. We liked
the bold title as that is a constant convention of DPS articles in
general so we made our 'Student Employment' masthead stand out
most prominently so it would catch the readers attention. We also
liked the use of multiple images on the page so used three down the
right-hand side and made them large so they would catch the
readers eye. All the images on the Doctor Who article have a
caption to explain them, we did the same thing but the Doctor Who
article has the one that explains all of them and we developed this
by having individual captions for every image. We liked the use of
different colours in the main body text so because ours was an
interview we decided it would be best to make the interviewers
questions a different colour so the reader could skim through and
find the most interesting questions easier. We followed the
convention of having the page full and leaving no large blank spaces,
filling the page makes the article more interesting so there is
constantly something to look at.
2. Radio AdvertWhen researching into Radio Adverts all three of us looked at different
Adverts of different shows. We all found that they were around the
30seconds mark and so followed this convention and made our radio advert
30 seconds too. We also found that music is often featured at the beginning
and end of the advert and so we did the same thing with ours to follow
conventions. We used the same music from the documentary so that people
could easily identify the tune if they heard the documentary playing. Some of
the adverts we listened to featured one voice and others had more than one.
We decided that we would have more than one voice so that it would make it
more interesting and draw more attention to it. We developed on this
multiple voice idea by having two of the voices have a conversation, people
listening to this would be intrigued and want to know what the discussion is
about and so be interested our documentary because we have caught their
attention.
