3. The First Scene:
We decided to look at super size me
before producing our documentary. Just
like super size me, who’s first footage
was of
children singing, we wanted our Documentary to challenge the convention
of starting A documentary with it’s name. So I suggested that we start off
with people saying what they don’t like about their body. I think this worked
very well and fitted in
with the purpose of our
documentary perfectly.
Firstly if the viewer isn’t aware of
what the documentary is about
they get a hint and secondly it will
be relatable to our target
audience, as the people talking
our young.
4. The Title:
A convention of a documentary is
to include a title. Compared to the
style
of the super size me title our is very simple. This is because we were
aiming for it to get a serious message across to our audience. However
looking back at it now I think we could have added color t our title even
if it was just the outline of the letters. Maybe a red firstly because it’s a
serious
color and a mutual color
between both genders, it
also would help our
documentary link to our
magazine a bit more.
5. Expert Interview:
Another convention we followed
was including an expert interview.
We used an
Expert to provide the audience opinions from professionals. This further
enforces our point. We also made sure that the expert wasn’t looking
straight into the camera a this is also a convention of documentary’s. we
also included graphics to tell the audience who the expert
was this is also an important
convention of documentaries.
6. Archival Footage:
It was important for us to include archival footage to add information to the
documentary we also used it as evidence. It is a convention to have archival
footage covering the whole screen. We developed this convention
unconsciously by starting of recording an Ipad with the footage and then
using a transition to make it cover the entire screen. We had to do this to
prove that this footage wasn’t ours and we had just recorded it of the internet.
7. Facts and
Statistics:
From research I learnt that having
facts and statistics is an important
convention
of documentaries. As it helps
back up your point and in our case it can make people really realise how
much of an impact social media has on society. We decided to present our
facts on an Ipad as it helps relate to our topic.
8. Vox Pop:
A vox pop is an opinion from the
public. Using a Vox Pop in a
documentary is key. Just like Super
Size Me we also used a
fair amount of Vox Pop’s, we used vox pop’s to prove to the audience that
social media was having a negative impact on people. By using young adults
it helps the target audience relate to themselves. We also
chose to use a variety of ethnicity’s and
both genders to make sure our research
wasn’t biased.
9. Actuality:
Actuality is footage of
something that is happening
in real life. All documentaries
include this, we used it to
show how involved people
are with social media, they
are constantly on it.
