3. I have used a masthead as this
is a convention of magazines.
In the masthead I have included
the title, which is the largest
text on the page in order to
make the school magazine
recognizable. Also, I have
included a positioning
statement which is a claim that
the magazine makes about its
self. For my music magazine I
am going to make sure that my
title is in a unique font as this is
a code/convention usually
followed by magazines.
I have included a barcode
as all magazines/buyable
media items need these. I
also included the price to
let the consumer know
how much it is and an
issue number, which tells
the reader which issue
they are reading. For my
music magazine I am
going to include the date
so the consumer knows
when it was released.
I included buzzwords
‘FREE’ and ‘EXCLUSIVE’.
Buzzwords are used a lot
in magazines as it makes
the reader feel like they
are getting something
special.
I used a main cover line that
links to the main image and is
the second largest text on
the page. With the main
cover line is the main sub line
and explains the main cover
line and the image.
I used a main image
in the centre, this is
the biggest thing on
the page and I have
used a medium close
up which is the shot
that is usually used
when one person is
on the cover of a
magazine.
I have used 3 cover lines
which frame the image
and tell the reader what
is going to be inside the
magazine. For my music
magazine I am going to
do more cover lines,
and make sure no text
goes on the face of the
person who is the
image.

masthead again in my
contents page as this is a
key feature of contents
pages in all magazines, as
the masthead must be
carried through from the
front cover. When I am
making my music
magazine I am going to
make sure that my title is
in a unique font.
An important feature
of a contents page,
especially in a school
magazine is a editors
letter as this is an
informal way for the
editor to introduce
themselves to the
reader. Next time I
am going to include
an image of the
editor.
Images are an
important part of a
contents page, as it
has to catch the
readers eye and
make them want to
fin out more about
the stories that are
coming up in the
magazine. I have
used three different
images in my
contents page, and
next time when
making my music
magazine I am going
to put a caption or
short description
near to each one to
describe them.
I included cover
lines and page
numbers as this is
needed in every
magazine to let the
reader known
where the content
is printed.

6. Cameras and Photoshop
• For both my school magazine front cover and contents page, I used
a camera to take the images that I used.
• Furthermore, I used Photoshop to put together my front cover and
contents page, using my plan as a guide and following the codes
and conventions of school magazines to help me.

weaknesses of both the
product and your use of new
media technologies
8. Front Cover
I think the strengths of my front cover were
the image as it uses the correct shot, is in the
centre and is clear. Also I think I followed the
codes and conventions of a school magazine
front cover quite well, such as having the title
as the largest text on the page, using a
barcode, and using buzzwords. I think the
weaknesses are that I put some text on the
face, which shouldn’t be there as the face
should be able to be seen and if it is being
covered the magazine will look unorganised. I
also didn’t put a date, and didn’t use enough
cover lines which I am going to make sure to
do when creating my music magazine. I was
able to use the camera without problems and
Photoshop quite well however moving
forward I would like to develop more editing
skills on the software.
9. Contents Page
Overall I think I have followed the codes
and conventions of a magazine contents
page, and I think the strengths are the
images, the editors letter as it is quite
informal and has a signature, and also the
way that the page numbers are a different
colour to everything else. I think the
weaknesses are that I haven’t included an
image for the editors letter, and I think
there isn’t enough cover lines, so I am
going to make sure to do more on my
music magazine contents page.
