                           Differences

                         The Red masthead is
only in the top third of
                          the page whereas
                              College Life
                         masthead covers the
                           whole of the top.

                           College Life uses
                         much bolder colours
                         and fonts to attract a
                                younger
                          audience, whereas
                            Red uses more
                           mature colours to
                            attract an older
                               audience.

                and conventions of media products?
                           Differences

                            OK! has a section
                           written by the editor
                             but College Life
                                 doesn’t.

                            OK! tells you more
                           about what is inside
                           whereas College Life
                            only has the main
                              articles on the
                             contents page.

                          OK! has subheadings
                              to separate the
                          articles and put them
                              into categories
                          whereas College Life
                               doesn’t have
                          subheadings and just
                          lists them in order of
                            how they show up.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing

            Digital Camera

• I took the photos for the magazine with
  the digital camera.
• I learnt how to take pictures of different
shot types, e.g. a medium close up. I
made sure that my front cover photo
was a medium close up (MCU).
• I made sure the image followed the rule
  of thirds.
• I took pictures for the contents page of
my magazine in more natural poses.

                                           Photoshop
                             • I created my front cover on
                               Photoshop.

                             • I made a blank template to start off
                               the magazine.

                             • I learnt how to insert images into
                               Photoshop.

                             • I added text and shape and learnt
how to change their colour and add
                               effects onto them.

                             • I used the drop shadow effect and
stroke effect to make the text stand
                               out on the background.

                                             InDesign
                             • I created my contents page on
                               InDesign.

                             • I learnt how to use boxes to insert
                               images and text.

                             • I changed the colours to complement
the colours on the front cover.

                             • I used the gradient swatch tool to
make the background fade into a
                               different colour.
