This document provides a progress evaluation of the author's work in pursuing a career in the media industry. It summarizes several posts and projects completed by the author including researching inspirations in the media industry, career options after graduation, drafting a CV and personal statement, creating a digital profile and branding elements like logos and business cards, producing a show reel, participating in a mock BBC interview, attending networking events, and gaining work experience. Through these activities, the author has gained valuable insights into different media industry roles and learned important skills for pursuing work in the field.

1. Progress Evaluation

2. • First I made a post talking about my inspirations in the media industry, in
this post I talked about the likes of Tim Burton, Tobe Hooper and John
Carpenter and how they made an impact in my life to make me want to
follow in the path of media and choose the course and the road I'm on
now, I talked about the work they did and how it revolutionized the media
industry and how I'm wanting to follow in their footsteps to make my mark
in the media industry, this post is important because I wanted it to show
why I love media so much and why I decided to become a student in
media, this post was important as my inspirations were the first real
introduction into the media industry and the importance of that had to be
treated as such as without these inspirations, there is a big chance I may
have never discovered how much I can love and have the same passion I
have for media now

3. Working in the media industry
• My next post was just as crucial as I had to research into the next steps of
the media industry after I finish this course, I had to research into what
would be next so I looked into different job opportunities, what jobs are
available, how much time a week it will be and how far it would be so I
could consider what would be the best possible option would be if I went
straight into employment, I conducted similar research on media industry
apprenticeships
• For my academic options I weighed the options of travel, and the
reputation of the university, I looked into travel time and what the best
option would be before choosing the universities I was applying to, these
were all crucial as it will determine the future of my media industry career
chance and how each choice will impact my chances of getting into my
desired role in the media industry and which choice will give me the best
chances of doing that

4. CV
• A CV's importance is high, you need a CV to get a job which Is why I
constructed a draft of my CV before getting feedback and making a final
draft that looks as good as possible, this will give me the best chance
possible of getting a job in the media industry if I choose to, a CV will only
get better with time as skills are always being improved and discovered but
I think I've made my current CV as good as it possibly can be right now, this
posts determines my chances of getting a job compared to the other
candidates I'm competing against and I've learned through the research
I've conducted what makes a good CV and what elements I can conduct in
order to make my CV as effective as possible and stand out compared to
others applying and competing against me for whatever job role in the
media industry I feel like I want to apply for and i feel like I've made my CV
as good as it can be in this moment in time due to that research

5. Personal statement
• Due to my different options and paths I could take in my future of the
media industry I had to construct a personal statement in case I decided to
take the route of going to university, I conducted my research on how to
write a personal statement and what makes a good personal statement, its
of great importance that I make my personal statement as good as it can be
as it determines whether or not I'd be accepted and receive an offer, I had
to treat this with the same level as importance and put the same level of
work into my personal statement, after all the research I eventually wrote
my personal statement and wrote two drafts of my personal statement
after receiving feedback onto what I could add to my personal statement
and what could make it the best it can be so that if I choose to apply to
university I can get accepted

6. Digital profiling
• I researched into different create britain digital profiles as having a
digital profile has a huge important in today's technology-oriented
world, I looked into other people's digital profiles to get a sense of
what's good on a digital profile, what's bad and what I can use on my
own digital profile in order to make it as good as possible, I learned
that its important to put your most recent work to be featured and
have some sort of branding to make your profile as good as possible,
as well as explaining who you are and what you do, explaining your
skills is important as it shows what your work is backing up, all these
things is what I learned from other digital profiles and through
making my own

7. logos
• Researching into different examples of logos has taught me the
importance of branding, through my research I learned that the most
important part of a logo is keeping it eye-catching and memorable as
well as relevant to your product or service, a logo has to represent
your brand and you, while creating my own logos I learned that the
creative process is long, I produced many different drafts of a logo,
receiving feedback for each one and narrowing down my drafts until
the public giving me feedback decided which logo they like best as
well as what I like as it’s the public that will recognise your logo with
your brand, while doing all this I learned the importance of a variety
of drafts as well as how to effectively use feedback to positively
influence a product

8. Business card
• I conducted similar research and went through similar steps for the
business cards as I did with the logos as a publicly appealing business
card is important as those are the people you are going to be
distributing your business cards too, I learned that the inclusion of
your logo and brand name is crucial, I've been taught through my
research that my business card needed to be effective but not have
too much going on as it will lead it to end up looking hectic and too
packed out when all you need is a colourful and professional looking
business card

9. Show reel
• A show reel shows off your best most recent work in a short and
snappy format and is of great importance to show those you're
presenting it to what you do, what you represent and how you do it,
my research into what makes a good show reel taught me that a good
show reel needs to include your best work in a quick format with
snappy upbeat music, the inclusion of your logo is important as it
pairs your work and your show reel with your brand, the show reel
also speaks for itself as it shows off your editing skills and your ability
to differentiate your best work from your worst work, making my
show reel helped teach me that it's one of the most important parts
of your work and your branding

10. BBC Mock interview
• This mock interview taught me how to research and create a pitch
into a project i want to present, it also gave me the experience of
pitching an idea for a show, this is important as that’s one of the main
aspects of the media industry and getting to create and present a
pitch has helped me grasp a better understanding of what pitching an
idea to get it green lit is actually like, I know the importance of
interview techniques and research thanks to this experience and its
taught me how to properly prepare for a pitch

11. Networking experience
• The networking experience has been an important part of my course
as I've learned a lot about different aspects of the media industry,
from the Lord David Puttnam talk about the advancement of media
and the media industry to the Sophie Gibson talk about her BBC
apprenticeship experience, its given me the insight into the different
sectors of the media industry of which I could be a part of, through
these networking events I've learned about the importance of
different jobs and roles in the media industry and how they come
together to provide shows and movies we love, the importance of the
news, careers in photography and videography and the real life
impact media has on people

12. Work experience
• I've learned the importance of my work experience at YAV, I've had to
work with people of different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, the
importance of this is immeasurable as you never know what kind of
people you will be working with in the media industry, it's also helped
me improve my skills and I've learned how to work with people better
to help improve those skills
