Evaluation attracting the audience
1. How did you attract/address your audience?
Attracting the audience
From my audience research, i have found numerous techniques and conventions
that will appeal to my target audience of 16-24 year old males.
- I have used a colour scheme of red/black/white in order to attract my audience.
The research showed that this colour scheme is heavily used by music magazines
with a similar target audience to mine, so I thought it was appropriate to use the
same. The dark colours will help to attract more men than women.
-I have included simple fonts for the main chunks of text, whereas I have used a
more elaborate font called “TIZA” for the masthead and contents page title. I have
used the simple font to reflect the target audience’s young age, however I felt a
different font was needed to initially draw in the readers.

2. Addressing the audience
- I have reflected my audience thought the language I have used. For example,
wherever possible I have used language from the semantic field of music. This means i
have used topic-specific words, which could be seen as jargon. Words and phrases such
as “exclusive” and “front man”. Also when describing the feature “top 40 albums of the
year”, i have described the list as “prestigious”. This authoritative language choice
makes the list sound important in the music industry.
-I have used a standard format used by journalists in my research for my double page
spread interview. I begin with an informative paragraph giving basic background
information about the artist. This is followed by numerous paragraphs with an opening
declaration by me (as the interviewer), followed by a longer answer by the artist (the
interviewee).
- Because of my relatively young target audience, I decided to use smaller amounts of
text on both the front cover and the contents page. A long chunk of text on a subject
they are not interested in would certainly put off a younger reader, so I have done this
in order to keep hold of their attention.
