Tumblr
• Throughout this process I have been using
Tumblr as the media platform for my work. It
is a great platform as I can upload audio,
video, photos, text and links. It is really easy to
use and has been great in terms of links to
Slideshare, Prezi and other sites.
• The use of Tumblr has showed me that media
convergence is becoming more and more
common.
Social media and other sites
• I used social media and sites such as Wikipedia to research other films
in terms of film popularity and distribution and advertising.
• Social media was especially great at researching the target audience
as I could look specially at young people and the films popular
amongst them in terms of Facebook likes, hashtags and more.
Animatic
• The animatic was difficult to make as we did not have a lot
of practice with using final cut, however it showed us that
we need to practice more and after making the animatic we
watched many tutorials to make sure that the film opening
looked great.
• The animatic was a great template for the order of our
shots and it also showed us that some of the shots we
originally planned to take weren't going to work.
• We used Vimeo to upload the animatic which took about 2
hours per try, it took 2 tries. This made us question whether
we should use youtube or Vimeo to upload the opening, we
later experimented by using both.
Use of digital cameras
• We used a Canon EOS 600D with EF-S 18-55 is 11 LENS KIT
to film our opening.
• The camera was great for filming as it captured movement
perfectly and was really simple to use.
• However in terms of capturing sound it was quite poor and if we
were going to have diegetic sounds it would have had to be
recorded separately with a mic.
• All members of the group took a part in filming each filming
different shots as well as having practice time prior to the
filming.
• We used an iGadgitz 140cm Silver 3 section extendable
aluminium portable tripod for Canon EOS 600D. It was really
easy to use and compact which made it easy to carry around
while we travelled to the different filming locations. However it
was extremely light which meant that it did not balance
extremely well and any slight movement destroyed the shots.
Editing the clips with Final cut
• We used Final cut on a Macbook air.
• Final cut was already bought so we did not have to pay for the software
otherwise we would have used the cheaper iMovie.
• Final cut was a great software to use as it recreated the images we had in our
minds of how we wanted the opening to look like. We found it difficult to use
at the start but practice helped and we got the hang of it. We all took on
separate parts which we knew we could perfect, with certain people focusing
on the music and others on the transitions.
• Editing was done in school with the whole group having a say in how the
shots should be edited and placed along with the shot transitions.
Making the idents
• Blender was the software that we used for the making
of our idents.
• The 20th OMEGA LTD ident took about 3 hours to
make.
• The Eagerly ident took about an hour as it is much
simpler with minimal movement.
• Inspiration for the 20th OMEGA LTD ident came from
the 20th Century Fox ident as it is a huge production
company, one that we would want to produce our film.
• The 20th OMEGA LTD ident took about 3 hours to make
as there was much more movement and detail as
opposed to the Eagerly ident.
YouTube & Vimeo
• We experimented with YouTube and Vimeo to see which would work better.
• Vimeo took much longer to upload our opening with however was much easier
to use and did not crash as much as YouTube. This is why we eventually chose
to use Vimeo for our Final Cut of the opening.
• Vimeo also worked better with Tumblr making it easier to link to as well as the
quality of the video being much better than on YouTube.
